Rune Knight

"Only the dead know the end of war. He whose name is forgotten by time, whose skeleton still litters the battlefield, is a true hero. All others are survivors." A Knight of a Legendary Guardian Order. His Kingdom was massacred. His memories were taken, stripped away. In the legends, they say he and his brothers killed millions before they finally fell in that final battle at Gruumsh's Gate. Though none of the records agree with just how he emerged victorious, it remains the same that only one man walked away alive from those ruined plains, that shattered civilization. Charged by a dying god with a mythical task suitable for the heroes of old, the greatest legend of our time began with the end of the largest battle in history. ~---~---~---~---~---~ Genre: Dark Medieval Fantasy. Sun God's Wrath

Lord Belmore was ecstatic. He had completed his life's purpose, he had finally annihilated the Vreans, and wiped out the Sun Guard. The Adal had sacked Vuula, the capital city before coming to the battlefield. Vrea was no more, just a bad memory and soon simply a page in the history book.

At least, that's what he thought. As he turned to leave after Gilgamesh crushed the warrior, the ground began to tremble, and he felt a dreadful presence. Killing Intent skyrocketed from beneath the boulder, making a chill go down the soldier's spines. Those closest felt their legs give out beneath them, as they knelt on the ground.

The boulder suddenly cracked, before splitting open into numerous pieces, revealing a lone warrior at its center, his ruined armor quickly reforming, and his glowing golden eyes bristling with hate and rage.

Around the knight was a golden divine aura, like a God had descended from Akkadia into the realm of man.

Lord Belmore gulped. Those wretched golden eyes seemed to be boring into his soul.

"HALT!" The sound of his own voice gave him confidence, so he continued. "Get up, you cowards! It is only one man, and we still number over fifteen million combined!"

Some regained their footing, but none approached him. Looking around, Lord Belmore felt no confidence, nor any reason to continue being there, and quickly Warped away.

One tried to rally his troops: "Give up, lay down your arms! We have you surrounded!"

This seemed to give the troops more confidence. More regained their footing, pointing their weapons at the godlike warrior.

The golden eyes swept across the battlefield, taking in the millions he was surrounded by, the tall walls of the canyon reflecting the beautiful sunlight.

He had a purpose. He had an objective... Total Annihilation.

The voice of an Eldritch escaped his throat.

"All I am surrounded by is fear and dead men."

He suddenly grew to a height of 4 meters (~13ft), his muscles rippling under his growing armor as he disappeared from his position, and screams filled the canyon.

He left afterimages in his wake, slaughtering dozens with every swipe of his glaive, but it wasn't enough.

Where his mana failed to empower him further, his Goddess did not fail him.

Her divine aura fed his body, making his muscles as hard as steel and twice as strong. He moved like lightning through the battlefield as he continued his slaughter, getting faster and stronger with every passing second.

Hundreds. Thousands. Hundreds of thousands. They were no match for his blade. He slashed them in half, tore their heads from their bodies with his bare hands, and ripped their hearts from their chests.

Soon a barrage of arrows rained down on him, too many to dodge. His armor was riddled with arrows, but he continued as if nothing had happened.

Soon all that was left in the canyon was a mountain of corpses, the warrior, and Gilgamesh.

Gilgamesh merely stared down at the battlefield, and the Guardsman mused that he looked so small compared to his true Giant brothers, and lacked the runes on his body that the others had.

Gilgamesh moved with uncharacteristic swiftness, raising his massive blade up into the sky, but Vrea's Will moved faster.

He crouched down and leaped like a laser beam towards the Giant, blowing a hole through its skull.

The sun knight could feel his power running out, he only had a little bit more time, but he wasn't worried. From the cliff edge over the canyon, he could see the bodies of the destroyed Adal army, taking care of at least a third of the opposing force, as well as thousands of Krodians.

He gazed out at the grassy plains beyond Gruumsh's Gate and saw the rest of the Krodian force.

...

[Now; Krodian Base Camp]

Lord Belmore was terrified. He just saw Gilgamesh have a hole blown through his skull, and was actively preparing the Warp Array when an infantryman approached.

"My Lord, scouts have reported a single warrior emerging from the canyon."

Lord Belmore felt a pit form in his stomach.

"Order the generals, kill that man at all cost! Go! NOW!"

The soldier sprinted out of the tent, but Lord Belmore already relaying orders to destroy the lone soldier.

The general rushed out of the tent toward a large circle of black-robed wizards, chanting and quickly forming hand signs.

Inside the circle of wizards, a massive blue circle was being magically inscribed into the ground, the mana burning the soil away as powerful magical fluctuations stirred up the wind.

He glanced over at a group of Blackguard knights standing around a hovering mass of tangled metal, with only a graying head of hair peaking out from the top.

"Aquillus is secured? Has there been any trouble?"

"No problems, my Lord. He is conscious, but the artifact has subdued him."

Lord Belmore nodded, and the circle glowed a bright blue as it was completed. One of the black-robed wizards turned and said, "Get in the circle quickly, my Lord."

Lord Belmore entered the circle along with his guards and the captive General Aquillus, sighing in relief.

The circle glowed brightly again, and they were gone.

...

Vrea's Will looked out at the millions of Krodians ahead of him.

His eyes narrowed as he realized that their numbers were too large to face at once, it would simply take too long for his liking, and many of them would escape.

His objective was annihilation, and it was annihilation he would achieve.

Mana began to circulate faster and faster, straining his core and circuits. The divine aura entered his body, supplementing his power far beyond his body's limits.

Power coursed through him, and he could feel his circuits cracking as he pushed them to their maximum, and soon coils of blue and golden light began to coalesce around him.

As he successfully projected the mana outside his body, the Krodians felt a chill down their backs.

The atmosphere had changed, the sun seemed to burn hotter and brighter, and the blood in the air seemed to be much more pungent.

More and more power seeped from the Godling's body, filling the air around him.

'It's not enough. I need more!'

Like a beast, he roared and pushed his power to its maximum, instantly shattering his mana circuits, but the power was there. It filled the air around him like a thick fog, covering at least a kilometer.

The fog quickly solidified, turning into thousands, hundreds of thousands of blue and gold spears that hovered in the air, even as more were still being constructed.

The Sun Knight chuckled and coughed up blood as he pointed forward.

Like a tidal wave, the spears screamed towards the armies below, turning the Krodians into pincushions.

He continued to send more spears and pushed his shattered mana circuits far beyond their breaking point.

Soon, silence descended onto the battlefield, and only three tattered banners waved in the distance.

'How unnatural...' The man thought and collapsed to the ground in exhaustion.
