I sighed. Might as well address the elephant in the room. “So what happened with Harvey?”

Jake’s eyes swung back to me, guiltily. “Am I that obvious?”

“A little.” I briefly touched his hand. “I’m a good listener, and while I’m enjoying my time with you, I think your mind is elsewhere and you need to talk to someone.”

He stared at the table. “I’m sorry.”

“Don’t worry about it. Go ahead, spill. It might help.”

“Well,” he began, “Harvey accused me of being a fuddy-duddy. Apparently, I don’t know how to let go and unwind, and I love the retirement home and spend more time at work than I do with him, blah blah.”

“Is there any truth to those accusations?” I asked.
