'It hurts!'
'Help me!'
'I'm dying!'
'it hurts!'
"Shut up." I grumbled while thrashing around on my bed.
'Save me!'
'I can't see!'
'Help!'
'Help! Help!'
"Shut up!" I yelled while closing my eyes tight, trying to get back to sleep but suddenly I startled awake and launched towards the switches, turning on the lights.
"What the hell?" I mumbled getting out of the bed.
[...Hungry.]
"Not now, Demon."
My head hurts from all the loud talking going on around me, but when I look around the room, I can't see anyone.
Aunt May has gone back home, the lights are off and no one is in the room. I moved towards the door and checked the hallway outside my room but there was still no sign of anyone there. However, the voices I was hearing just didn't seem to stop.
I tried covering my ears but it still didn't work, that's when it hit me, maybe this is some kinda power or ability I gained.
Now, I was running through a myriad of hypotheses and none of them made any sense.
The voices began to overwhelm me, I clenched my head and groaned in agony. I'm going to lose my mind if I don't do something right away and stop the voices from coming.
I got up and tried to meditate but it didn't work either.
'Stop damn it! Stop!'
I sighed and composed myself before making one last effort. I felt the voices fading as I tried to focus on a certain area of the room, or more precisely, it ignored the voices coming from the other directions until it was absolutely silent. I opened my eyes and took a deep breath after a short while.
I have no idea what just happened, but if I had to sum it up, I have two theories.
One was that my inner "Demon" was acting out and attempting to mimic human voices, but I shut that down immediately because, as unsettling as it may be to consider, the demonic voice primarily growsls rather than talks.
I attempted to talk with it for half a day, but all it ever said was 'Hungry.' or 'Food.' or both at once.
The other notion I'm leaning more toward is that I have some kind of power or skill. If I'm right and I actually possess a power, this has two potential outcomes.
One was that I have enhanced hearing that lets me hear voices from far away or I can read people's minds and I'm pretty sure it's the latter.
It was a rather straightforward conclusion, if I had enhanced hearing, I should have picked up on all the sounds around me rather than just the voices of the individuals, and since most of those around me at the moment are patients, I guess most of their thoughts are focused on pain and help.
I sighed and reclined back onto the bed, thinking as I continued to look up at the ceiling.
I need to figure out how to direct and turn this power on and off at will and then I need to determine if it has a defined radius but prior to doing all of that, I really need to get some shut-eye since waking up in the middle of the night sucks.

-[The Next Day]-
After the episode last night, I needed to confirm whether I truly got a power, for that I had to control it and that's how I came up with a solution, to create a mental switch.
The switch was pretty simple. I need to tense my body and focus on a target to read their mind and once I let my body return to normal, it's turned off.
I tested my power with the switch method on a bunch of people and it worked.
But that's how I understood I don't have mind reading abilities, instead I got telepathy, I can't look into their memories but I can read their thoughts, this may not sound powerful but if used correctly, this could turn into a trump card.
I also found out that using this power comes with a side effect, the longer I keep this ability active, the higher the mental exhaustion I suffer from.
At first I thought this was an effect for forcefully controlling my power using the switch method but it was not the case, even after I removed the switch and let the ability run freely, I still suffered from exhaustion.
I snapped out my thoughts at the sound of the door open, I tilted my head and looked ahead as Aunt May stepped inside the room, her lips curled up into a smile as her eyes landed on me.
"Eddy, slept well last night?" She asked walking forward.
'Not really.' I chuckled internally while I gave her a gentle nod and leaned back.
"Well I got some good news to cheer you up." I raised my eyebrows at her playful smile.
"Hmm?"
"Take a guess." Are we really playing the guessing game now? Fine. I squinted my eyes and focused on her while slowly tensing up my body.
'I don't think he was expecting to get discharged sooner.'
"I'm going home?" I blinked.
"Wow, that's right, how do you know?" Her eyes widened but ultimately she broke a bitter smile and asked.
"The doctor said when he came to check on me." I bullshited my way out.
"Huh that makes sense." She nodded. "Ah, speaking of that, there are some people waiting to meet you."
"Eh who?"
As far the memories go, I don't remember anybody close to Edward's family other than the Parkers.
"This guy called Charles Xavier, some kinda teacher." She said with a smile but I on the other hand was sweating bullets.
'Holy shit, this world has mutants!'
That's when it clicked in my head, it was not a random coincidence for Charles to visit and for me to awaken a power in the same day.
'My power is a fucking mutation.'
