Rise of the Reaper

The world changed on a fateful night in the winter of 2010 The night was young, with only the light hue of the moon illuminating the stary sky. "On this fateful night, a large meteor shower is scheduled to appear and dazzle the sky with its majestic sights" A news station tuning into the event reported. Expecting to see the vibrant blue and red-tinged streak that is associated with a meteor, a small voice pierced the entire night. "Mommy, why is the sky yellow?" A young boy expectedly looked toward his mother. Instead of the vibrant blue and red-streaked trail following a meteor, a dull, lackluster yellow could be seen tailing the meteors falling down to Earth

"Train you?" Hunter said with a puzzled expression, "I wouldn't know where to start, I'm sorry"

"Please, I'll do anything to get stronger!" The boy said with a pleading voice and puppy dog eyes, trying to sway Hunter.

Thinking to himself and weighing the pros and cons, Hunter finally decided to help out the boy, after all, Hunter himself understood the yearning to get stronger.

"What's your name and what's your power level?" Hunter decided to start by introducing each other before he gave the boy a training regimen.

"Max Wilder, power level 4!" Max shouted while taking a stiffened stance in front of Hunter.

"Level 4! Why do you need my help then?" Hunter said, confused at why a high-level person would even need help in the first place.

"Well, it's because my manifested ability is pretty useless in combat," Max said with a red face.

Taking a step back, Max raised up his hand, snapping his fingers together.

*Snap*

As soon as the sound went off in the room, Max disappeared from the spot. Hunter looked around in front of him, not seeing any trace of Max.

"Oh? You can turn invisible?" Hunter said, secretly thinking that his shadow cloak gave him the same ability as a power level 4.

Just as Hunter said that his body tensed up, feeling a hand on his shoulder, Hunter whipped his body around to face the owner of the hand.

Standing behind Hunter was Max, shyly avoiding Hunter's gaze.

"See, I told you it was useless," Max said in disdain.

'i couldn't even tell he was behind me until he placed his hand on my shoulder!' Hunter thought to himself.

"What exactly is your ability?" Hunter questioned Max.

"By snapping my fingers I can teleport myself behind the person I'm looking at. I can control how far behind the person I can teleport but that's about it." Max said with his head down.

Realizing that Max had a power that didn't fall under the typical three categories, Hunter came to the conclusion that Max had a variant ability.

"Do you use weapons to fight?" Hunter asked Max a question.

"No, I try to use my fists because I can get close and personal ya know, give them the old one-two," Max said with a chuckle.

Palming his face, Hunter came to the conclusion that Max was a bonafide idiot.

"If you use a weapon, you can be more lethal. If your opponent has an enhancing ability then fists could be useless" Hunter explained to Max.

Gasping at the sudden realization, Max quickly went to a weapon rack in the corner of the gym. Grabbing a short, one-handed dagger, he examined it in his hand neatly.

"Now, try to sneak up on me with your ability, don't stab me of course," Hunter said with a slight chuckle.

*Snap*

Appearing right behind Hunter, Max appeared, the dagger in his hand now placed across Hunter's neck.

*Gulp*

Hunter gulped at the sudden danger that he was in, to which Max quickly pulled away the dagger and appologized.

"Sorry, was that not good? I can try again if you want" Max quickly said.

"What! Dude that was perfect, if you do that during a fight you can end the fight instantly. It's overpowered as fuck!" Hunter smiled at max.

"Thank you, master!" Max went to one knee, pledging himself to Hunter.

"Woah, Woah, stand up max, don't call me that," Hunter said while looking around to make sure no one was in sight to witness the embarrassing scene.

"Look, Max, I have some things to do today, I'm going to write you a training regimen that I myself follow every day," Hunter said to Max.

Grabbing a piece of paper and a pen off of the gym's front desk, Hunter wrote down three things.

'100 situps, 100 pushups, 1.5 mile run'

"Here, follow this daily and it will help your stamina and strength," Hunter said after writing down his daily quest requirements.

"Yes, master!" Max said as he grabbed the note, bowing deeply to Hunter.

"And cut that out," Hunter said with a red face.
