Chapter 113 -- Going home, part 1

Noble families might be called families but most of their members weren't really related. They were more of an organization than a family.

Take Charles for example, in the Willer household the only person who had his blood was his only son Charlie.

Charles, Charlie and Lara were the only three people in the Willer household who were born noble. The rest of the family was recruited by Charles, the same as how Zane was recruited, minus the suicide attempt.

Every well informed noble knew that lord Willow was running out of lifespan and he had less than ten years left to live if he didn't breakthrough.

The next in line for the seat was still very young and weak, a thirty year old High mage in the first rank. A power struggle between the top noble families was imminent and all the families were trying their best to raise their power as fast as possible.

Charles was one of these nobles vying for the seat, he still held a grudge against the Willow family and he would try his best to get the throne.

Charles had already coerced three other mid sized families to help him fight against the other large sized families. At the present time he was in a meeting with the leaders of these three families.

"We are on the losing end Charles, no offense but if this keeps up we will have no choice but to....." Charles raised his hand to stop the leader of the Smith family from finishing his words.

He knew that if he doesn't get more families on his side he wouldn't stand a chance against the other high ranking families, much less the current rulers of the city.

"Don't worry, i will turn things around soon" He said, trying to reassure the nobles.

"You better, because we don't want to back someone else" the Mirren family leader said before standing up and leaving.

"Turn this around Charles" the Fortier family leader held his shoulder before leaving with the rest. Alfred Fortier was one of Charles' few friends, however he couldn't support Charles without the guarantee that they would win.

If Charles lost, every family that was on his side would suffer under the hands of the new ruling family, that was to say if the Willow family is even successfully overthrown. After all they had a lightning element user in their ranks.

"Fuck!" Charles smashed the steel table in front of him into pieces.

"Father" A young man, of around Zane's age walked into the room with a worried look on his face, which was strikingly similar to Charles.

"Hey son" Charles tried to calm his nerves.

"What's going on?" Charlie asked.

"If I don't get more families on my side, we will lose the ones we already have" Charles explained. Charlie nodded, he had thought this was the problem.

"Father do you really need to rule the City?" Charlie asked. He couldn't understand why his father was so hell bent on getting the seat of city lord.

"You know why i have to do this son" Charles said.

"No i don't father, you say it's so you can help people, but i think it's all about you" Charlie retorted.

"Yes!" Charles shouted, unconsciously releasing a wave of water aura all around him. Charlie had to use a water screen to protect himself.

Charles sighed "They threw me away for using a few gold just to do some good, they don't deserve to rule" he said.

Charlie nodded with a sigh of his own "Okay father, what can i do to help?".

"We can't do anything for now, actually visit the Hill family and offer to reduce the price of our warehouse by half" Charles said.

"Of course father" Charlie slightly bowed before leaving, only to bump into his mother by the door.

"Hello mother, please excuse me" He smiled at his mother before nodding to the man beside her and quickly leaving.

"That's my son Charlie, I'm sure you will get to know each other soon enough" Lara, Charles' wife and Charlie's mother said. Zane nodded as he took the time to appreciate the beauty of the room they just walked into.

He had thought Old man's house was luxurious, however it was a shack compared to the Willer mansion.

'Alex?' Zane thought, however ever since he woke up, the only thing he heard when he actively tried to listen to Alex was static.

Zane was getting increasingly worried he didn't know what to do and how to reactivate Alex. He didn't even know what was wrong.

'That's weird' Zane thought after noticing that the system already knew he was officially a noble. 'How did the system even tell that i joined a family?' he thought.

'Aurora are you there?'

Silence...

Zane was also surprised to hear that he was unconscious for five days. He was really upset to hear this because he had wanted to watch Keith's fight against John.

"Charles, look who's awake" Lara said. Hearing his wife's voice, Charles turned to the door while forcing a smile.

Lara didn't need to look twice, she already knew that smile was as fake as a triangular gold coin. However she didn't think it was a good idea to discuss business in front of their new member.

"Zane!, you're finally awake" Charles smiled, while in his mind thinking of how Zane could help them get more families to join his side.

"Yes, thank you for your hospitality" Zane bowed.

"No need to thank us Zane this is as much as your house as it is mine" Charles said.

"Ohh, can i sell it?" Zane asked as he took a seat.

Lara chuckled "I like him" she said "He will really get along with Charlie"

"As much as i would love to meet the rest of the family, i need to go home for a little while" Zane said. The dream he had still played in his mind like a looped video.

"Okay, here you go" Charles threw a storage ring, which Zane easily caught "In there are your mana cores and gold coins as agreed"

"Thank you, i will take my leave for now" Zane was really eager to go back to Nok village.

"Wait Zane before you go please change into these" Lara said, in her hands were clothes.

Zane didn't even question anything and undressed, causing Lara to hastily close her eyes and Charles to chuckle.

Zane was surprised to feel how perfectly the clothes fit him. They consisted of skinny jeans, a shirt and a blazer.

"What color is this?" Zane asked.

Charles and his wife were confused "What do you mean?" Charles asked.

"Ohh I'm color blind" Zane explained.

Charles nodded "Everything is white since that seemed to be your favorite color" Lara said.

"It is, thanks" Zane noticed a steel insignia on the breast pocket. It was the letter "W" which was crossed out by a diagonal line.

Zane had so many questions but he didn't have time at the moment, he didn't even have time to breakthrough before his journey!.
