Title: Facing Reality
."Eleven years later...
"96...97...98...99...100... Hah! Hah!" I breathed heavily as I finished my morning workout. I had a ripped body for a young man my age, and as you may have guessed, my name is Rayan Mayura. I am turning 18 next month and was born and raised in the capital of the Meluhan Empire, Delhi. For those who don't know, this world is similar to Earth, but it has its differences. There are five great empires standing on top of the world:
The United Empire
The Great African Alliance
The Shang Empire
The Meluhan Empire
The Soviet Union
These are the five great superpowers of the world. There are also a few smaller kingdoms and a few lawless lands, but I will tell you about them another time.
Now, coming back to the five superpowers, each has its own deadly forces. Among those forces, there is a very special unit in each empire, and each empire has a different name for that unit. You might be wondering how they are special or different. As I said, this world is technologically advanced, and each empire sends millions, if not billions, to these units. The soldiers in these units are extremely privileged. They do not use normal weapons; instead, they mainly focus on close combat, using energy blades that can cut through steel like a hot knife through butter, energy barriers that can stop 50-calibre bullets, and energy blasters that are extremely lethal. The soldiers in these units are said to be enhanced humans.
The Meluhan Empire naturally has this special force named the "Rakshaks," and it is nearly impossible to join them. The scouting for this unit starts when an individual reaches the age of 13 and closes at the age of 15. You don't take a written or physical exam. It doesn't matter if you can run ten laps or lift 100 kg (220 pounds approximately). Every state has its own scouting camp set up all year round and is provided with scientifically developed special equipment that can measure a person's mental, physical, and talent limits.
They are measured for a reason, of course. If qualified, you will be given a serum that can turn you into a superhuman. But if your physical limits are not enough, you might have the opposite effect. That's why the test is taken, and the serum costs millions. The serum injection requires the said individual to be young to take effect. If an adult is injected with the serum, it will have no effect on them.
After the serum integration, the child can attend an elite military school to undergo their studies and training. After graduation, they can join the elite "Rakshaks" force as a trainee and keep rising in ranks.
You might be wondering if I made it into that elite military school. As a matter of fact, I did, but not as one of those enhanced elite students. Instead, I was accepted as a regular student who might be given a chance to join the regular army after graduation. My talents were average, my physical limits were also average, but my mentality was graded as "good." I didn't let the rejection get to me, and I worked hard to join the said elite military school as a regular cadet, who is like a foot soldier in a fight. No energy barriers or blasters, just regular handguns and rifles. There are privileges for being an officer in the army, but when compared, you could compare a regular captain to a trainee in the "Rakshaks" unit. The good news is that a major in the
regular army can get a energy pistol "yippie".
Jokes aside ,the day I got rejected is the day I realised reality and fantasy are two very different things. That day I realised that nobody is made equal ,some people are just more privileged. Well even so doesn't change the fact that I can still keep trying to get better every day is better than doing nothing i suppose .
