To the land of the waves

All the D-rank missions gave Sasuke fifty training robs, so he got 350 over that week. That wasn't half bad, but considering the rewards that he got with Taijutsu training, it still was lackluster.

"I sure hope that the rewards will at least double with each rank… actually, since that mission is a rank B, it should at least quadruplicate," Sasuke thought while doing some math.

Once he reached the entrance of the Hokage office, Sasuke found Sakura and Naruto already there. It was rare… it was even more, rarer thanks to the fact that he saw Kakashi leaving the building already.

"You are late… how many times do I have to tell you not to be late," Kakashi said.

Sakura and Naruto's foreheads had a vein bulging there… Kakashi was every single fucking day late, so his attitude was starting to annoy them more than a little bit. In any case, their behavior changed when they saw an old man leaving the building… It was Tazuna.

"Wait… what?" Sasuke furrowed his eyebrows.

"Sorry, guys. I received a mission on my own, so you will have to enjoy yourselves without me in the next few days," Kakashi said. "Some other instructor will keep an eye on you while I am away. Do your best taking those dogs and cats to the walks."

"Why did you receive a mission alone?" Naruto protested. "You are the squad leader of team seven; if you receive a mission, then we receive a mission as well."

"That usually would be the case, but things are different this time; the danger is too great for mere genin," Kakashi said. "Some gang and renegade Shinobi are targeting our friend's head, but he doesn't have enough money to pay for a full squad, so I am going alone."

"That is not fair!" Naruto raised his voice.

"Life isn't fair, so get over it, kid," Kakashi said.

"Is it a B-rank mission?" Sasuke asked. "Even if we weren't to be paid, that kind of experience would be valuable for us."

"Hmm, good guess… while that might be true, I won't have time to babysit you guys; my sole job is to protect Mister Tazuna here," Kakashi explained. "Besides, there are other factors involved that make me go alone."

Naruto clicked his tongue… since he was one of the reasons. No one wanted to let the nine-tailed fox roam around, and there was a high chance that some people might target Sasuke as well. Akatsuki should be around, and while the chances were small, they might get involved in that mess… things were changing, so it was hard to say what might happen in the future.

"What are the odds of you facing more than one renegade ninja that can cause you trouble?" Sasuke asked. "If he has some underlings, you would benefit more in having some people guarding the target while you fight freely. The mission will last for a while, right? Stamina isn't your forte either."

"How did you…" Kakashi said and then frowned.

"Sasuke Uchiha makes a good point, Kakashi," The third Hokage voice suddenly echoed in the area.

The third Hokage suddenly left the building while wearing his usual clothes, and it seemed that he had heard everything. Naruto clicked his tongue and looked away… he never did that much to anyone, even to those that really annoyed him.

"We weren't counting on that when we gave you the mission, but we might be able to raise some money by getting rid of the renegade Shinobis," The third Hokage said. "We can't operate out of charity, but this much should be more than enough to pay for a rank B mission. Besides, given your report, they won't slow you down."

"Hah… understood," Kakashi said after a long sigh. "We will meet at the entrance of the village in one hour. "Don't be late."

Naruto smirked and then hurried home to pack his things. Sasuke did the same, but Sakura headed to her house while feeling more than a little bit nervous… how were we suddenly moving from walking dogs to fighting renegade Shinobi? That didn't make any sense…

You received a quest: protect Tazuna until the bridge is completed.

Reward: 300 training orbs per day.

"Hmm, this isn't so bad…" Sasuke nodded to himself in satisfaction while he was dashing home. "I was planning to get Zabuza's sword, but even without that, this mission will be very rewarding."

While he was packing his things, Sasuke wondered if he should let things happen in the same way as in the story… considering what was about to happen and what happened in the original storyline. Avoiding Zabuza and Haku's death… would that benefit the world and him?

Naruto was supposed to grow as well after that mission. Still, it was hard to imagine how he was going to grow, considering his current behavior… Still, after not so long, Sasuke realized that there was no point in being merciful to those who wanted to take his life… then again, Haku was a different issue, and Zabuza only changed on his death bed…
