CHAPTER SEVENTEEN

She gulped as He felt her heart pick up. She didn't know what to say as she offered him a shaky smile.

"What is it?" She asked. She watched as he was quiet for a moment before he hummed as he stepped further into the room and took shaky steps towards her. She didn't know what game he was playing at but she wanted to stay out of his reach.

"The kiss. Is that the reason, why you are acting this way?". He asked her and she could tell that he was reading there. She wasn't one to be intimidated by him. Instead, she gritted her teeth at him as she sent him a deep glare.

"You can't just kiss me that way. It may give others the wrong impression". She said to him. She watched as he hummed at her once more and he nodded his head at her.

"And what impression might that me that we are still together? That we are mates. He said to her in a hissing tone. She gulped as she nodded her head at him.

He finished closing up the distance between them as he sucked in a deep breath and inhaled her scent. "And when they find that you have another man's scent on you what impression do you think that will give them." He asked her.

She furrowed her eyebrows at his words as she found herself struggling to understand why he was so bothered about everything. But then it clicked as she took a moment to look at him more closely.

"You are jealous, aren't you?  You are jealous that I have another man's scent on me." She said to him and she watched as he tensed up before shooting her a glare but just to further prove her point he took a step back and he didn't deny any of her words.

"Of course, I would be jealous. I am your mate after all but above that, I am your alpha and this is a sign of disrespect. You can't continue to play me around like that. I am not to be taken for a fool by anyone". He said to her and she couldn't help but let out a chuckle.

"And me? How was I supposed to feel when I saw you with that woman? Was I supposed to also sit down and do nothing or are the rules only for me and they don't apply to you". She said to him and she watched as he gritted his teeth at her in response before he began to breathe heavily.

"That is not what I said but you will regret it if I catch you with the scent of another man." He said to her in a menacing tone. She didn't want to admit that she was scared but she was determined to stand her ground as she glared at him.

"I will continue to do it right back at you if you plan to do the same to me. Respect goes both ways". She said to him firmly.

She watched as he gritted his teeth in anger and she knew that she had pushed some of his buttons but she wasn't willing to rest him any further. Instead, she took a step back and moved away from him.

"Look.  I know that you don't like me and the truth is that I don't particularly enjoy your company either but you are the one who agreed to have us get married. So you are going to have to put in some work." She said to him.

She watched as he let out a sigh from his lips as he lowered his head slightly before nodding his head at her.

"I know that and I know that you are right as well. So you will just have to bear with me a little but we will be able to get through this. I vowed that I would help you with your people and desire what you want, I also intend to keep that vow that I made to you. But it is hard for me and it may not seem that way but I do want to try." He said to her and she couldn't help but furrow her brows at his words.

She didn't know what was the cause of his sudden change of attitude but she couldn't miss the fact that it felt as though there was something that wasn't quite adding up. But before she could say anything further she was brought out of her thoughts when they heard the sound of someone clearing their throat by the mouth of the tent.

"Alpha it is time for dinner and the pack is expecting you and the Luna to be there". She sighed as she felt as though she had finally broken out of his stare.

"Let's get going then." She said to him and she watched as he nodded his head at her in response before letting out a sigh from his lips.

"Come on let's get going". He said as he offered out his hand to her. She took it quickly as she tried to plaster on a smile and she hoped that she would be able to distract herself from the sparks that erupted against her skin in the places where they touched.

As they made their way outside she felt slightly nervous as she could tell that the gazes of those around her were trained on her. She tried not to show it but he intimidated her and she was more than relieved when they finally  sat down at the head of the table with her being sat to his right

The people looked towards them as though they were gods and she had never felt anything like this before. She reveled in the feeling as they waited.

"Let's begin." He said as he caused everyone to turn their attention to their plates. She didn't know why but she had a feeling that the night would be very interesting.
