Answer

"…"

Wan raised his eyebrows in an almost amusing manner, he didn't think the person who had beaten his team in a humiliating manner would give him two choices that each of them would still lead to his death.

If that is the case, I will still die even if I give him my answers…

"Why don't you just kill me already?" Wan glanced at him with an angry and annoyed voice.

"Answer my questions and I will grant your wish." Cui Len'an argued back with a nonchalant expression.

"What do you want to ask?" Wan spoke with a complex expression, seemingly bored.

"Are you in cahoots with any other families?" Cui Len'an asked slowly, making sure to take notice of Wan's changes.

I sincerely believed no one would dare to abduct his brother, especially knowing he was backed by a powerful family. Only those who are also backed by a powerhouse would dare provoke another powerhouse!

"Of course, do you seriously think our business would have gone so well without the help of a mighty and powerful family?" Wan lowered his eyes and continued frankly, "I am giving you my honest answers because I am quite tired of the life I live…"

"Weren't you excited just now?" Cui Len'an raised his eyebrows, recalling the happy expression he had seen before he decided to take action.

"I was pretending not to provoke Master Kao…I want to quit this life of mine and go back to my wife and children," Wan spoke with a gloomy tone.

"You have made certain decisions, decisions that will not take you back into the past," Cui Len'an said coldly.

"I know. I know. I am just giving you some look into background…" Wan shook his head repeatedly, "If you are looking for the answer, I can give them but I am sure you wouldn't be able to do anything about it."

"Answer my question quickly," Cui Len'an pushed the gun against his throat slightly. Wan was bleeding, losing much of his vitality as he spoke gradually with his pale lips.

"The family who had backed us is," Wan took a deep breath, "The Mo Family."

Mo Family, a family famous for having many generations of lawyers and lawmakers, was a powerful family in the field of politics and leadership.

What I am aware of is my aunt from my mother's side married one of the members of the Mo Family. I find it far-fetched to believe such a law-bidding family would go this far as to back a gang.

Although most of them are two-faced, to begin with, shouldn't they worry about their reputations if these doings of theirs were to get leaked?

"What do they want from backing you?" Cui Len'an curled his lips as he frowned behind the mask.

Wan trembled slightly before answering with a tint of fear in his tone, "To decapitate the Cui Family…"

!!!

Why would they want to decapitate my family, knowing pretty well they are relying on us to do business? Is it one of their ambitions to take over the business world?

The Cui Family and the Mo Family have been doing close business with one another for many decades, a betrayal would benefit no one.

"Is there a particular reason why they would want to do this?" Cui Len'an couldn't resist the urge to ask.

"I am not aware of such things; I am only a subordinate of The Snakes. Even Master Kao isn't aware of those things too. We were only told what to do and that is to capture the third young master of the Cui Family…"

Cui Len'an looked to his head, trying to see if the voice was trying to indicate anything. After not being informed of any lies, he was certain this man wasn't trying to trick him. It appears he is quite cautious with this life of his.

"Where can I find the answers?" Cui Len'an remembered not to ask any more questions regarding his own family as a way to avoid suspicion of being closely connected to them.

"Our Boss. We are only a branch of The Snakes. The answers lie in his hands…"

"How do I find them? Your boss?"

Only a branch? I learned today The Snakes have a long list of branches, a lot more ties have to be eradicated if I want to end their human trafficking.

Before he could speak, his throat suddenly twitched. A blob of blackness grew rapidly in his throat as though it was trying to escape and take form.

Cui Len'an immediately stood up and took a big step backward, taken off guard.

This!

Wan suddenly choked as he gripped his throat in an attempt to strangle himself, white bubbles started to appear in his mouth as he glanced at Cui Len'an with a bit of helplessness.

The blob of blackness grew to fist size and wavered, Cui Len'an aimed the gun at his throat in case it were to break his throat and jump on him, he would have the upper hand and eliminate it.

"Kill me…"

Cui Len'an eyes shuddered as he didn't hesitate and pulled the trigger, shooting a bullet straight into the black blob. The bullet penetrated his throat and the blob, causing the two of them to instantly die.

Blood splattered everywhere, with a bit on his white shirt and much of it was on the floor.

Cui Len'an breathed heavily as he tried to comprehend what had just happened.

What was that thing just now? Is this some sort of curse or punishment? I didn't get enough answers.

Before he could think any further, a siren echoed from somewhere. Cui Len'an immediately grabbed his belongings and fled the scene. He had parked his car quite far from the location although he had placed some pebbles on the ground in case, he couldn't find his spot.

Tearing through the woods and trees, he found an opening and got into his car, powered it, and drove away. He didn't intend to retrieve his mannequins and left them at this place.

He had laid the mannequin trap a couple of hours before he entered the warehouse.

It was a bit embarrassing for me to see they all returned quickly after witnessing my carefully made mannequin trap.

He wanted to duplicate a scene he had read in a horror novel…

Cui Len'an wanted to laugh but remembered he was still in a costume; he hastily took his mask and placed the gun onto their own respective boxes.

His white shirt was a bit dirtied with a minor blood stain on it. He took one of his blazers and put it on. It wasn't noticeable if one were to cover it due to the size of the stain.

I have complicated feelings about this mission…Those kills were the first time I ever eradicated a human life but I did it with such ease and not even an ounce of sympathy on me.

Was this the adrenaline or something else? I felt like a completely different person as I charged forward with the gun and I also had an uneasy feeling even before I came here.

I feel it went too smoothly for my first time…

As Cui Len'an was lost in his thoughts, a figure was invisibly standing above him, gravitating and hovering over everyone.

The woman wore a purple robe with flowers and black gems embedded into it, she donned a black-purple coronet with a purple gem-encrusted in front.

Her eyes were pitch-black with no whites, resembling the abyss and nothingness. She hovered above the scene as she pressed both of her palms against each other, observing the entire scene.

Unexpectedly, another figure appeared behind her back as he floated toward her. He was dressed in elegant and clean white robes with a white tie hanging around his forehead.

He made a triangle with his hands as he also joined her, he smiled beautifully and muttered quietly seemingly to himself, "What a scene…"

As soon as he said that, he released his hands, breaking apart the triangle. A crack began to appear on the invisible altar in front of them.

Cui Len'an returned home and hid away the weapons, taking off his shirt and throwing it into the pile of dirty clothes.

He smelled of blood, sweat, and dirt after taking a sniff of his own clothes. He took a cold shower and was dressed comfortably; he checked his phone.

It's 2 am now. I can't go to sleep at this time with so many thoughts in my head.

I am still immensely confused and frustrated about the outcome. His death was too unfortunate and supernatural for me to dismiss. It started growing after I had asked him about his boss. There wasn't any fluctuation at first but as soon as he tried to answer, it suddenly appeared out of nowhere.

I could deduct it is either a curse or warning placed inside his body without his knowledge or maybe the boss is a secret final boss I would have to fight at the end of the game and didn't want him to know too much about him. Revealing too much will often lead to disappointment…

Cui Len'an thought amusingly.

Old Lao could perhaps have some knowledge of this but with my current strength, how could I possibly be given an answer about a gang leader…

Plus, the gang leader could possibly wield a Soul Fragment as well!

He sighed as he thought of the fact that he may have provoked someone of a higher status and greater grasp of Soul Fragment than his own.

One good thing that happened today is I can ascertain that Lady of Despair has the ability to absorb the livingness out of a human being. I was a bit careless; I should have used it to stab everyone and have it upgrade to another level.

I wonder if feeding it energy leads to an upgrade and if the upgrade will award it with new special powers…

The only way I can find out is by going stabbing everyone…

Cui Len'an's eyes gradually swayed, he yawned and covered himself with a quilt.

The Mo Family must have some hidden ulterior motives and I have to find the reason why they would go against my family and break their promise but also try my best to keep a low profile and not make too much trouble directly…

He closed his eyes and fell into the embrace of his sleep.

-

Morning,

Cui Len'an woke up with a dizzy head and stretched his body a couple of times before heading down.

By the time he headed down, he discovered two figures were sitting at his table as he was caught off guard by the sudden intruders.

The elderly man with a white beard and the young lady with her usual ponytail sat there on his chairs and slowly sipped coffee. Dipping fried dough into the coffee and munched on them deliciously. They were none other than Old Lao and Yue Lan.

"…"

Cui Len'an's features twitched slightly before recovering, he headed downstairs with a smile and greeted them.

"Good morning, everyone! Quite early today, heh?"

"Your mission must have gone pretty well considering the nice exterior you put on," Old Lao tsked and ate his fried dough.

You sure got a lot of audacity for someone who is sitting in my house…

"Congratulation on the success of your rescue mission," Yue Lan smiled softly as she sipped her coffee, she gestured with her eyes, "Why don't you come over and have breakfast with us?"

She bought another spare breakfast, untouched and steamy.

"I'm sure you had a pretty bad sleep with those eyebags of yours," Yue Lan giggled pleasantly.

I mean I only got a couple of hours of sleep but that is pretty enough. I partied longer than that and still managed to go to work.

"Went home too late last night but thank you for your congratulations," Cui Len'an smiled genuinely and cast his glance onto Old Lao who was still chewing on his food.

He couldn't bother to care about their intrusion anymore. He wouldn't be surprised if they sneaked into the bedroom and shared a bed with him without his knowledge.

"Have you seen the news?" Yue Lan asked with a gentle smile.

Heh?

Hmm...

What happened?
