5 1.5 Learning Magic - part 2

"You need to concentrate some mana into your hand and imagine a small tornado forming on your hand," Ronald said while demonstrating how it works.

As Ronald said those words, a small tornado appeared in his hand. Some dry grasses started rotating around it making it visible

I tried doing the same. I closed my eyes and tried putting almost the same amount of mana that I used while creating the fireball earlier

When I opened my eyes, I could see that a small tornado had appeared in my hand. It wasn't big enough to do any real damage, but it was big enough to make Arica hold her dress.

'That's legit!' I thought and stopped concentrating mana in my hand.

"Oh my, it looks like you can use wind magic too," Arica said with a smile.

"Yes, looks like it. Lucky me." I replied.

I am not sure how it works for others, but this was quite easy for me. I just needed to control the amount of mana and be careful with how much I use. The rest was just imagining the things based on how Ronald and Arica did it.

"Okay, now let's see if you can use Darkness magic. Arica, show him how it's done," Ronald said looking towards Arica.

"What is Darkness magic useful for?" I asked. I had pretty much guessed what other magics could be used for but I had no idea about the Darkness magic.

"It can be used to put curses and summon familiars but the ritual for doing that is difficult. It can also be used for things like making magic potions and stuff. I know, we could learn how to make a love potion together," said Arica in a teasing tone.

'That sounds fun! No no, keep your thoughts together.'

"Thank you, but I am not sure if I even have the aptitude for it," I replied.

"Oh yeah, we were testing that, right right. For this one, you just need to put a green leaf on your hand, pass mana through it and imagine sucking life out of it. Let me show you, sweety," said Arica with a smile.

Arica plucked a leaf from the nearby bush and passed mana through it saying, 'darkness swallow whole'. The green leaf turned dry.

'It doesn't look as cool as the earlier two so I probably won't be needing it very much. But let's see if I can use it.'

I tried doing it as Arica said and closed my eyes to focus my mana. I opened my eyes after saying the words and it had worked, the leaf had already turned dry.

"Whoa… Only one among thousand people can use 3 kinds of magic y'know," Arica said in a surprised tone.

"Yeah, Sistina and Marina already have it, but they are the only ones in our village," Ronald said looking surprised. He then took the dry leaf from Arica's hand and said, "Now let's see if you have the aptitude for holy magic."

He then put the leaf into his right hand and covered it with his left hand. As soon as he did that, greenish light came out of his hands. And when he removed his left hand, the leaf had turned green.

"This is how you use holy magic, give it a try," Ronald said looking at me.

I used my dry leaf and tried doing what Ronald just did and it worked. The leaf turned green.

"Oh god. You can use 4 types of magic. I have heard that only few Royal magicians can use it," Ronald said. His mouth was open wide in surprise.

'Well, since I don't even know how to use any of them, I don't think I should be too happy about it this soon.'

"I guess I can learn more about these magics from you guys," I said, trying to bring them back to reality.

"Yeah, we will help you. But for now, it's getting dark, so let's head back to the orphanage," said Ronald. It was already evening so both Arica and I agreed.

What I learned that day was that the visualization of magic was the key to using it and the rest depended on how you could manipulate your mana.

When the three of us reached the orphanage, I decided to help Nina and Miss Rose in preparing the dinner again.

After we finished preparing food, we decided to call everyone for dinner. When we were about to start, Arica told everyone that I could use four types of magic.

Everyone was glaring at me with a shocked reaction on their faces. I felt a bit shy to see everyone look at me like that, but I decided to use this opportunity to ask everyone about their magic aptitudes.

"So, hey Marina, what kind of magic can you use?" I asked looking towards Marina who was sitting next to me.

"I-I can use Water, Fire, and Holy magic. I-I can o-only use support and healing magic though," Marina replied while looking down at her plate.

'That sounds perfect for a kind-natured girl like her.'

"I think it's amazing that you can use three types of magic. And support and healing roles can be very important, y'know," I told her my honest thoughts.

I then turned towards Nina and asked her, "And what about you, Nina?"

"I can use Earth and Water magic. I am also training to go to the Magic Knight Academy but I am not very gifted, so I need to work a bit harder" Nina replied.

"I think you will be able to get into the Academy without much problem. I have heard that only one among 100 can use two kinds of magic," I told my thoughts honestly.

"And what about you Sistina?" I turned towards Sistina and asked.

"Oh, I can use water, fire, and dark magic. I have a bit bigger mana bank than normal, so it gets out of hand sometimes," Sistina replied looking a bit sad.

'That sounds like a thing that she could easily work on. I mean, even I could do it from my second time. Though maintaining it is still hard.'

"I think you will be able to use it properly if you train a little," I said honestly since she looked a little down.

She smiled after hearing me say that.

'That's so cute! Fox girls are the best.'

The only person remaining in the table was Miss Rose. So, I turned towards her and asked, "Miss Rose, what kind of magic can you use?"

"Oh, I am not very special. God has blessed me with holy magic, and I am satisfied with it." Miss Rose replied with a smile.

"No no, I think that's great. Holy magic is indeed very special. Andrew saved my life with holy magic when he found me injured," I replied with my honest opinion about holy magic.

'I mean it can do something that medical science from my previous world only dreamed about.'

It was a little surprising to hear that they can use two or more types of magic. But considering that they were children of knights and Magicians who died in the great war ten years ago the surprise wasn't that great.

After finishing the dinner, I helped Miss Rose in cleaning and went to the bed.

The next day, we were planning to go to the library with Nina. Since Martha was helping Miss Rose with the work at the temple, she could be with us. After finishing the studies, we were planning to go to the training field. I would finally be able to test my aptitude for the remaining two types of magic then.
