Waiting For You

"My lady, do you need anything?" Evan was sitting on the window after she took a bath and ate something. It has been all day but the man did not return and it was unnerving him.

How badly she wanted to go and look for him but at the same time she was scared that he had changed his mind after her outburst. All she needed was to stay silent and thank him for his help. He had saved her life after all. Why was she..!

"My lady, the physician, is here to change your bandage. Do you want me to allow him or ask him to return later." Evan shook her head. They were already doing enough by keeping her safe. How could she ask them to work twice.

"Please lead him in." the maid nodded and went to open the door. The physician was too young to be one. The thought did not cross her mind that time because she was busy cursing herself when Damien left the room.

She did not pay much attention to the physician but now that he was there again, she noticed he was too masculine. For someone who had spent his life in a closed laboratory, he looked too strong, young and.. She lowered her gaze when the man stared back at her with a dark gaze.

"Do you want to ask something, lady Midnight star." and he knew who she was! The maids did not know her identity. They only knew that she was their future mistress. But the man knew who she was and where she had come from. Is that why he was cold to her… but that also meant that Damien trusted this man.

And so far, every man has helped her in surviving.

"Yes. Umm, how is Ian? " The man's eyes went colder at the question and he looked back at her wound while taking off the bandages. His grip on her tightened for a second before going normal.

"He is alive. But it will take him a month to heal." His cold response made Evan silent for a minute. "I will tell him that you were worried about him, my lady." he added when her eyes snapped back at him.

The man was still cold but he did his work meticulously. Once done, he stood up and left without offering another word.

The maids looked at her with worry,

"Lord Ian is his brother. You should not mind his anger. He was screaming when lord Ian carried you with an injured leg. I heard he had broken a few bones." the maid offered a smile when Evan sucked in a deep breath.

She was the reason that the man was injured. But if the physician's anger was any sign, she was not invited to see him.

"Do you know where your master is?" That was a foolish question. How will a maid know where the duke was? He had not come to meet her even once. He must be busy with a lot of things. A lot of papers are sturdy, a lot of documents to sign and a lot of land to check. How would he..

"Of course I do. Your grace is in the next room on your left. He had been here since the time you were brought here and did not leave his room. But he had kept the door open and every maid noticed how his eyes were on the door this entire time." Evan trembled. Her eyes flickered at the thought of him keeping an eye on her wellbeing.

He was making sure that she was treated well and at the same time, he would know if she left the room. She remembered how he had ordered her to stay on her bed for a week and it had only been a day yet she was tossing like a dead fish.

"I am feeling stuffy in the room. Can i go and sit in the garden.'' She knew that she would not be allowed to walk so she did not ask for it. It was strange that someone could stop her from walking and she was accepting it so easily.

"I.. I am not sure, my lady." The woman looked at the tight spot when Evan nodded. It was not the place of the maid to decide against her master.

"Then, I want to meet him to ask myself." she offered but the maid only flinched at those words. Understanding dawned..

"Did he say he will not meet me?" Why was she even asking when she already knew the answer?

Ha! And here she thought that…

"Of course not, my lady. But the master would be angry if you left your room. Oh lord, he would be furious if he came to know that you are sitting on a chair or sofa." the woman sighed with an exaggerating expression on her face that made Even blink. The chair was large and she was comfortable on it. The piece of wool she had wrapped around her body was the softest thing she had ever touched.

And this room.. It was so comfortable that she could not thank them enough. She was the first daughter of marques yet she felt overwhelmed by all the luxuries.

"But if you want, we can ask your grace to come here. I am sure he would be happy to meet you." Will he? Evan looked at the maid in confusion but the woman looked sure of it. As if she had… Evan shook her head.

"He must be busy." she whispered. Her father never liked when she disturbed him and Harold was furious when she.. She shook her head. They were men earning wealth. She knew how much pressure it had. She could not be more of a nuisance but the maid did not share the same views.

"Nonsense. Would a busy man keep his eyes fixed on the door? He is waiting for you to call him."
