Damien Alancaster, the devil of the empire, the beast of the north, the demon who drinks blood. He was the only one who could save her. But who would save her from him? “We are only in a contractual marriage. I want to keep things professional.” She took a step back, looking for the papers they had signed that fateful night. Do Not Regret It

Damien glared at the papers as if he was trying to burn a hole in them. His cold eyes made minor mistakes with such harshness as if he was going to issue a death sentence to his staff. They all stood on their side holding his breath.

"It has been half a decade, yet you are making mistakes in the budget." the pages flew and landed in front of his assistant. He quickly searched for mistakes and found he had added three extra silver coins for flexibility. Damien had marked those coins. He wanted to shout but no voice came out when he opened his mouth. All the grievance was struck in his throat when he looked at Damien's burning crimson eyes.

"And you, Marcus.. You marked the point wrong. Here! I have completed your task too.'' The man was the chief commandant of the army. He had been marking the points of fight since childhood. He had marked their camps and fighting points in war. How the hell could he be wrong?

He did not peek like his colleague but picked up the drawings only to see an inch or two difference. Was Damien kidding?

"You can not be serious. We are talking about humans? You think they will not move an inch or two while shooting?" he grumbled but Damien only shot him a piercing glare.

It continued with the treasurer, the butler, and the head maid. His subordinates ran the territories. One by one each of them was scolded for their tasks. For their tardiness and shoddy work.

"And you…" the chef did not even look at them .He lowered his head ready for his resignation, "you did a good job. Keep up the good work."

Everyone's gaze snapped up the frozen girl. What magic did she do to not get the scolding they shared? They were sure even god would be scolded by Damien if it appeared in the room.

"Thank.. Thank you, your grace." the woman bowed unsure when Damien's gaze flickered.

"She is fine. But all of you.. You are going to make all the papers again and present it to me in two hours. Or you are not leaving the room. And if I find a mistake again, you will be fired." he warned them with a cold face when the door knocked.

They all were horrified by the order. He wanted them to do a month's task in two hours. That also without returning them their initial report.

"But your grace, this is an impossible task." Callum was the first to speak. He had taken the position of Ian since he was injured.

Damien stared at Calia, the maid taking care of Evan for two days with a raised brow.

"The lady wants to see you, your grace. If you allow, she will come to meet you." The maid curtsied and spoke in a soft voice. Damien stood up at once. The chair moved backwards with his weight..

"She is still sick. Did she leave the bed?" Everyone held their breath. Though they were unsure who the lady was. They had never heard any woman visiting his properties. But he looked furious.

"No, of course, not. That is the only reason I came for your permission first, your grace." the coldness in his eyes finally thawed. "But if you are so worried, you can come to visit the lady too." the woman offered when she noticed his gaze mellowing.

Everyone gasped. The maid wanted Damien to visit?

"All of you can leave with the current reports. But I want a better report in the future." he offered when he noticed their probing eyes. They were shocked. Everyone looked at him with widened eyes but none of them moved an inch when Damien raised a brow, "or we can discuss your flaws whole night."

The words undid them. They ran at once and picked up all the files. Their speed was faster than war horses running wildly. When the room was empty again, he looked at the waiting maid.

"Lead the way…"

......….

Evan looked at the door every time she heard footsteps. She had heard many of them but the door did not open. That made her wonder how many maids were there serving him.

"I knew he must be busy." she shook her head and closed her eyes. She would rather rest and think about her plan to get divorce. She had no idea how the last case worked. What happened to Daisy. She had so much to work on.. Yet she was bedridden. She needed help!

So, when the footsteps came closer, she did not pay much attention until the door creaked and someone entered.

Her eyes opened to see Damien standing in front of her.

He was looking at her body, his eyes stayed on the bandages and moved abruptly to her face.

"How are you feeling now?" she gulped the lump and nodded her head.

"I am feeling much better, your grace. Thank you for saving me two days ago." she smiled at him when his face went rigid. He sat on the chair beside her bed and scanned the room.

"I did not know about your likes and dislikes. Hope the room is comfortable. If you need anything, you can ask maids or you can inform my aides." His voice was cold, sharp and curt that her heartbeat raced. She held the sheets tightly and bowed her head.

"I have been rude to you last time, your face. I was.. I made a grave mistake and I am ready for your punishment. But I hope that you will not regret choosing me as your wife." his eyes went to her face. She was anxious. He could hear her heartbeat, a reminder that he was not like them, like humans. A chuckle escaped his lips.

"I never doubt my decisions, Evangeline. But if you are indecisive, So, take a rest and think about it, if you are still unsure.. We can delay our marriage indefinitely."
