Urgent surgery

Both Chen Mumu and Feng Du An turned to look at Lu Fang. Their gazes were questionable but they still managed to mask it without any issues. The one who could not believe what was happening was Lu Fang himself!

He could not believe that the boss would throw him off the bus like this!

He held a certain part of his body pitifully while crying, "Doctor please, I can't take no more of this pain! Please take me to the examination room!"

He knew that his boss wanted him to act seeing that he had lied with such a straight face. He turned his head and sure enough, Xu Jingli was nodding in approval!

It was a subtle nod but still, Lu Fang understood.

Feng Du An being a doctor could not delay when he saw Lu Fang in such agony. He quickly led them inside and took the poor man for an examination.

Chen Mumu felt that something was very fishy but she did not know what it was. It was very hard to believe that this was just pure coincidence. She walked behind Feng Du An while Xu Jingli walked beside her. he occasionally turned to stare at her but would look away when she noticed.

While Lu Fang was being checked, the two of them stayed behind near the nurse's station. They sat down at the nearby chairs. Xu Jingli got up suddenly and went over to bring Chen Mumu hot coffee from the vending machine. He handed it to her, "Here. It is very cold and you are not wearing much, this will warm you up."

Chen Mumu stared at the man's hands. She was suddenly in a trance. Xu Jingli smiled, "You don't have to think much about it, it's just coffee."

Chen Mumu took the cup from his hands, "Thanks."

Xu Jingli sat back down. There was an unspoken harmony between the two of them. It was silent yet very comfortable.

Xu Jingli already knew why she was here but he still asked, "What are you doing here at such a time? Did something happen to you? Are you sick?"

There was genuine concern in his voice that made Chen Mumu's heart flutter. No one ever asked even if they saw her with a wound oozing blood, no one asked yet Xu Jingli only saw her in the hospital and asked so quickly. She was touched.

"My mother was being treated here. It has been a week. She will be discharged tomorrow."

"Is she doing okay? What happened?"

Chen Mumu liked how he was asking questions. She smiled, "She is fine now but she will still need surgery. I still need to prepare everything and get the money so that she can be admitted back."

Xu Jingli was silent for a while and then, "What is she suffering from?"

Chen Mumu looked up, "Just a herniated disc. She fell down the stairs a while ago but she never visited the doctor. It has only gotten worse."

Xu Jingli stared at her. He wanted to suggest something but he was worried the other would take it as him being rude or overbearing. He felt it in him to help her. it seemed like her mother needed the surgery right away.

He tried anyway, "If you want, I can pay for the…"

Before he could complete his sentence, Chen Mumu interrupted, "No need! I can work and make the payments myself!"

Xu Jingli was a stranger she had met by chance today. There was no way she would let him do something like this for her. she knew that she had gone overboard in using him back at the banquet but this was still wrong no matter where you looked at it from.

Xu Jingli tried to reason with her, "It could be a debt that you will repay. You don't know this but herniated discs can cause paralysis if they are left untreated for a long time. You already said that she delayed getting treatment. If you don't get the surgery soon enough only the worst could happen!"

Hearing that her mother could get paralyzed, Chen Mumu was silent. A lot of things flooded her mind. She obviously did not want that for her mother and she also could not bring herself to accept Xu Jingli's help. He was a stranger that she did not want to take advantage of!

"When do you want me to repay you then? Will there be interest?"

Xu Jingli smiled, "No need for that, just repay the original amount. So, what do you say?"

Chen Mumu looked at his outstretched hand in a daze. The fingers were very long and beautiful. They were also very clean. She moved to clasp his hands when suddenly a nurse came running towards her, "Lucky you are here…" The nurse started, "Your mother has been crying in pain for a few minutes now! We really need to do the surgery right now or else something worse could happen!'

Chen Mumu immediately got up and ran towards her mother's room. She opened the door and saw her mother writhing on the bed in pain. Tears immediately flooded her eyes. She ran inside, "Mom."

Her mother opened her eyes and tried to smile up at her but she could only manage a small lip lift, "Xiao Mumu!"

Her words came out labored. Xu Jingli had followed Chen Mumu inside and he aw for himself just how much pain her mother was in. he turned to the nurse, "Prepare for the surgery, Now!"

The nurse was in a daze, "What about the payments? We still need to…"

Before she could complete her statement, Xu Jingli interrupted, "I will pay for everything!"

The nurse nodded and rushed out. Chen Mumu was trying to ease her mother's pain so everything was all a blur for her. Feng Du An and another doctor called Zhuang came in. They quickly rushed her mother out and into the operating room.

All Chen Mumu could do was cry and hope that everything would be alright!
