Chapter 12

[A/N:I write this for fun and to pass time]

Chris POV

I walked towards where Johanath was trying to prank Evy I watched from the sidelines as Evy was walking down the aisle. Past a closed sarcophagus. Past cases of ancient artifacts but one sarcophagus suddenly opened making Evelyn freeze and swallows hard, nervously looks around to see who could have opened it. Then she slowly leans forward with the torch, and peers inside as hideous rotted Mummy sits up making Evyln Screech.

Evelyn screams and drops the torch backing away from the sarcophagus scared out of her wits. And then, coming from inside the sarcophagus,I hear Johanath laughing Evy narrows her eyes as Johnathan crawls out from behind the Mummy, laughing his ass off Eveyln angrly said"You... ! YOU...!."Johnathan cut her off "Drunkard? Fool? Rat-bastard? Please call me something original."

I slowly went next to her without making any sound and whispered "Booo..."Which was enough to scare her again seeing me she irritably started to punch me on the shoulder "Not you too Chris."

Evelyn then pulls a cigarette out of the mummy's mouth while looking at Johnathan and said "Have you no respect for the dead?."

Jonathan replied "Right now, I only wish to join them."I grin and said "That's a lie."

Johnathan who heard what I said answered "Okay that may be a lie." grins while Evelyn punches him hard in the chest. Evelyn "Well I wish you'd do it sooner rather than later before you ruin my career the way you've ruined yours."

Johnathan smiled and said "My dear, sweet, baby sister, I'll have you know, that at this moment my career is on a high note." as he Belches and then falls back and sits on the edge of a tomb.

Evelyn not believing it questioned "High note? Ha! For five years you've been scrounging around Egypt, and what have you to show for it? Nothing."I looked at Evy and said "You may want to see what he found Evy it's something pretty amazing." hearing I was backing Johnathan Evy looked surprised as Jonathan excitedly starts scrounging around in his jacket she said"oh yes I do! I have something right here!"

Evelyn looked at me and asked, "Bother are sure not another worthless trinket."Jonathan pulls out a small, ancient box with the collapsed key to Imhotep's sarcophagus and coffin. Evelyn is instantly curious, she grabs the box out of his hand.

EVELYN while looking at the Key questioned "Where did you get this?."

Jonathan knew her weaknesses, gives her a mischievous

smile, and said "On a dig, down in Thebes."I gave him look that said 'yeah right'Evelyn rolls the box around in her hands, mumbling to herself as she translates the hieratics and hieroglyphs covering it. Jonathan licks his lips in anticipation as he asked "My whole life I've never found anything, Evy tell me I've found something."

Evelyn's fingers play with the various little slats on the box, shifting them this way, and that way, it's like a puzzle box. Then suddenly, it unfolds itself, almost mechanically, turning itself into the Key. sitting inside the open key/box is a folded piece of golden papyrus an ancient map Evy was stunned and she said "Jonathan?."Jonathan answered "Yes?"

Evelyn who could not believe it herself said "I think you found something."Evy who couldn'y contain excitement went to the curator to show him the map while I went next to Johnathan and questioned "A dig down in Tebes."Johnathan knew Chris didn't believe what he said as he answered "Okay I can't trick you like Evy I pickpocketed it from a guy."

I gave a nod and replied, "Okay now let's go find Evy."We soon made out way to the Curator's office. The Curator sits at his desk, staring through a jeweler's eyepiece at the key/box. Evelyn hovers behind him, excited. Evelyn explained "See the cartouche there, it's the official royal seal of Seti the First,I'm sure of it.

Curator replied "Perhaps."Jonathan leaned in from across the desk and asked "Two questions. Who the hell is Seti the First? And was he rich?"

Evelyn smiled and replied"He was the last Pharaoh of the Old Kingdom said to be the wealthiest Pharaoh of them all isn't that right brother."I gave small while saying "You are correct Evy."

Johnathan who heard everything Evy said muttered "Alright, good, that's good. I like this fellow, like him very much."The Curator picks up the map while still trying not to show that he knew this is real Evelyn smiled and said "I've already dated it, this map is almost four thousand years old. And the hieratics over here....It's Hamunaptra."The Curator freezes when he heard Hamunaptra, suddenly very nervous, then he recovers and said"My dear girl, don't be ridiculous, we are scholars, not treasure hunters. Hamunaptra is a myth."

Johnathan questioned, "Are we talking about the Hamunaptra?"I answered "Yes. The City of The Dead. Where the early Pharaohs were said to have hidden the wealth of Egypt."Evy smiled nd said"Yes brother"

Johnathan who could not believe all this said"Right, right, in a big underground treasure chamber. Everybody knows the story. The entire necropolis was rigged to sink into the sand. On Pharaoh's command, a flick of the switch! And the whole place could disappear beneath the dunes.'

Evelyn "All we know is that the city mysteriously vanished around 2,134 B.C."I was looking at the Curator who holds the map closer to the burning candle lamp while saying"As the Americans would say it's all fairy tales and hokum."The map 'accidentally,' catches on fire the Curator throws it to the floor. Jonathan and Evy drops to his knees and quickly puts it out. Lifts it up. The left third of the map is now missing. Johnathan looked at the curator and yelled " You burned it! You burned off the part with the lost city!"

I could on think "Of course he did with how much he was denying the facts when Evy presented you would be more suspicious on why he is acting like this.

Curator didn't even seem sorry about it as he said"It's for the best, I'm sure. Many men have wasted their lives in the foolish pursuit of Hamunaptra, no one has ever found it, most have never returned."While I could only think"The guy really needs to be more subtle he just made himself more suspicious."Johnathan was devastated as he said, "You killed my map."

The curator in an all-knowing voice said, "I'm sure it was a fake, anyway, I'm surprised at you, Miss Carnarvon, to be so fooled."The Curator then tried reaching for the key/box. Evelyn quickly snatches it off the desk and gives him a very angry, suspicious look while both of them went out I looked at the curator and said "You know you really just made her suspicious about the map true by your whole act you know that right."

We were soon dragged by Jonathan to the Cairo prison one of the worst hell holes on earth. Every low-life form of scumbag can be found here. The Warden first-rate scumbag himself escorts Evelyn Jonathan I were walking across the gallows courtyard. Evelyn whispers to Jonathan. You told me you found it on a dig down in Thebes!"

Jonathan replied, "I was mistaken."Evelyn in anger said, "You lied to me!"Johnathan answered, "I lie to everybody, what makes you so special?"Evelyn was slightly hurt as she said"I'm your sister."

Johnathan smiled and said"That just makes you more gullible look even brother was not fooled by me"I smacked Johnathan on the back of the head and he muttered, "I am sorry."

Evelyn couldn't believe what she was hearing from Johnath who spilled the beans about where he got it from as she spoke "You stole it from a drunk at the local Casbah?!"

Johnathan corrected her "Picked his pocket, actually."I smacked him across the head and said "It is the same you idiot."

In the visitor's pen, the Warden ushers Evelyn and Jonathan into the holding pen Evelyn questioned "And what is he in prison for?"

Warden shrugged and replied"I did not know, so when I heard you were coming, I asked him that myself.'Evelyn asked, "And what did he say?"

Warden replied, "He said,....he was just looking for a good time."The interior cell door bursts open with Rick O'Connell is in chains, dragged by four guards, they shove him up to the cell bars.

I could only say "Well I think he is having a great time now."This got Johnathan to snicker and Evy to have a small smile although she would not admit it.
