41 Serious Trial

<Narcissa Ashwood POV>

The trial of Sirius was approaching and I was sitting with my grandfather, planning for the Wizengamot. He looked young, as if he was in his sixties, despite the illnesses that had plagued him for years. He was slowly dying, but Agustus had healed him miraculously. Agustus had done a huge favour for the Black family, not only by healing my grandfather, but also by arranging this trial. I couldn't thank him enough for everything he had done for me.

I remembered my childhood days, when the Black family was full of people and my grandfather was the most feared and respected among them. I didn't like Sirius when I was a child. He used to take everything as a joke, even life itself. He didn't care about the Black house or its traditions. He was a rebellious kid, but now I understood how important that freedom was, which he had enjoyed so much.

"Have you received the letter from Amelia Bones?" my grandfather asked.

"Yes, Minister Bagnold has organised the trial with utmost secrecy. The members will receive the letters tomorrow morning, two hours before the trial."

My grandfather sighed in relief for a second, and then his face turned cold. "That's good. Heir Peverell has done us a huge favour."

I was smiling when he praised Agustus. He noticed my smile and his face softened. He chuckled and said, "I have known you since the day you were born, and I never saw you smile like this, even during your childhood. You really love him, don't you?"

Without missing a beat, I replied, "Of course I do. He is the greatest, and the person who saved me."

He just smiled and said, "Alright, now are you ready? The world will find out about your divorce with the Malfoys."

"Yes, absolutely. I wanted that to be the headline of the Daily Prophet as soon as it happened, but it's alright. Agustus wanted to tell Dora about it personally. Now he has already talked to her, and said it is up to me to announce it whenever I want." I answered. I hated being called Lady Malfoy. I might hex someone accidentally if they called me that, knowing about the divorce.

My grandfather looked a little sad and said, "What about your son, Draco?"

I paused a little and thought about him. He was my son, after all. As a mother, you want your son to succeed, and I did too. But I was a horrible mother and person for choosing myself over him. I didn't regret it, though.

"It's alright. He didn't really have any affection for me. He just copied Lucius. He won't even care about this. Only the insults about his father get him riled up."

He stopped and looked at me, and smiled again. He said, "So I will see you tomorrow, Lady Ashwood."

I smiled at that title and said, "See you tomorrow, Lord Black."

(Millicent Bagnold - Minister of Magic POV)

That boy always did something outrageous. First, the dark artefacts, and now, he planned for a serious trial of Sirius Black, the heir of the Black family who killed muggles and broke so many Wizarding laws, getting his friends killed.

The dark families and the light families would go wild in this trial, and if the contents of Agustus's letter were true, the British wizarding world would be in turmoil again.

I was now organizing the letters for the trial, which would take place in the Ministry of Magic. Sirius Black had been brought out of Azkaban last night.

Amelia had done a lot of work during this period. She deserved some good quality raises in her department.

Agustus Peverell was a mystery. A young, talented, mysterious boy.

He seemed to be mature, but sometimes he was straight up stupid in politics. He had learned a lot from me, though.

Thinking about him put a smile on my face. Was I excited to meet him?

Dumbledore, the Chief Warlock of the Wizengamot, had to be informed a day before the trial, but Agustus had astonished me again by saying it wouldn't be a problem to not tell him. There was something going on between them, and I would definitely find out. I wouldn't lose my friend, as I didn't trust that old bastard.

<Dumbledore POV>

This was serious. The trial of Sirius Black! Who would have thought? I had doubted Sirius would betray the Potters and kill Muggles in the first place but for the stability of the ministry and getting proper upbringing for little Harry I had to make this sacrifice and I am sure Sirius would have been worse role model for him.

Sirius Black, a Death Eater. I would have laughed at this joke a few years ago. But now here we were, in the Ministry of Magic, and the trial would begin in a few minutes.

Heir Peverell had told me about the trial a few minutes ago, and here I was, like a good retainer, to make sure everything went as he wanted it to be.

Honestly, at this point, I contemplated my life, with Ariana and Gellert and now this. I should rest now, right? I have already done a lot for the wizarding world.

Heir Peverell had taught me something that I wished I had learned a hundred years ago: that I was not special, I was just another wizard with a little more magic than others. I had made a lot of mistakes due to my arrogance in my talent, and I had paid the price for it.

The trial was about to start. All the lords were sitting in their respective groups of allied families, and Heir Peverell was sitting next to Narcissa Malfoy. Why? Had she made a deal with him? I had heard some rumours about that.

Honestly, I didn't care at this point. All I wanted was to finish this trial as soon as possible and go back and rest.
