The two kunoichi both arrived at the stage in a relatively relaxed manner, exchanging joking insults and compliments to one another, before wishing one another good luck one last time, after which they arrived at their positions.
Their proctor, Doto, then proceeded to quickly repeat his memo. No killing. No maiming. etcetera, etcetera.
Finally, after what felt like forever, the man swiped down his hand and leapt back in order to give the two genin their space.
Doto: "The Third Match of the First Round may now begin"
The two kunoichi wasted no time before engaging one another, as Rin immediately fired off an array of Katon Jutsu, ones which she had no doubt learned over the past month, most likely through Obito.[1]
Rin: "Katon: Phoenix Flower Jutsu!"
A series of six small fireballs exited her mouth as they all diverged before curving back, all of them aiming either at Anko, or strategically placed at her escape routes.
Luckily for Anko, one of her main strengths were her Suiton Jutsu, which she learned in order to augment her Raiton attacks.
However, that was unnecessary here, as her Suiton served as a natural counter to her opponents flames.
Anko strategically waited for the fireballs to get as close to her as possible before casting the jutsu, to ensure that when she cast it all of the fireballs would be extinguished.
Anko: "Suiton: Wild Water Wave!"
A powerful burst of water shot out of her mouth, engulfing the six fireballs and countering them.
However, Anko had no time to celebrate this victory, as in the time that she waited for the attack to arrive, Rin had repositioned herself.
The kunoichi had tried to close the distance between the two, seeing Anko as a mainly mid to long range fighter.
A clash between kunai began between the two kunoichi, as they both stretched their taijutsu skills to the limit.
However, Anko had a trick up her sleeve.
Seeing an opening, she kicked her opponent back before quickly forming another series of hand seals.
Anko: "Suiton: Water Formation Wall"
She spewed large quantities water out of her mouth, which then rapped back around her, forming a wall which not only defended her, but knocked into Rin.
However, Anko was not done as she weaved another series of hand signs before touching the water wall, electrifying it.
Anko: "Raiton: Electromagnetic Murder!"
It was obvious who was going to fight, as one of the genin was wet, battered, and electrocuted, whereas the other was only slightly exhausted.
Despite these differences though, Rin's will was unshakeable, as she dusted herself back up, before using a smoke bomb in order to cover herself and using the opportunity to heal herself.
Rin's medical-nin abilities allowed her to stay in the fight for much longer than she otherwise would have been able too, although in the end, it only delayed the inevitable.
Eventually, one of Anko's many Suiton jutsu hit her dead on, and Anko was able to follow it up perfectly, and this time, Rin didn't have enough chakra to heal herself, and she finally fell.
"Doto: Winner: Anko Mitarashi."
Anko walked up to the balcony with a sad smile on her face, clearly hurting at the fact about what she just did to her friend.
Nonetheless, a quick chat with Mizuki and all of the other genin in their friend group quickly helped reinvigorate her, as in the end, they were helping each other grow stronger, and they had also all agreed not to pull punches with one another. Being mad now would just be hypocritical.
As there was time before his match started, and he was also known to be exceptionally close to Rin, Obito was offered to accompany her in her temporary medical bay.
An offer which the boy quickly accepted, as he gave all of his friends a quick goodbye, before She would be transferred to an actual hospital only after the exams ended.
After Obito left alongside the medical staff and Rin, it was time for the next match, this one between Idate and Ebisu.
. . . . .
Needless to say, it was less like a match and more akin to a public execution.
Even in the original series, Ebisu showed limited capabilities when he was a Tokubetsu Jonin, being more of an instructor than an actual combatant.
This effect was only magnified when you realized that he was a genin now, and had none of the skills he would have even then.
Although he had some mastery of fire style jutsu, it was little help to him, as he was forced on the defensive as a rain of wind blades descended upon him as soon as the match begun.
Idate: "Wind Release: Vacuum Serial Waves"
Ebisu: "Substitution"
It quickly became a sort of twisted game of cat and mouse, as it became a competition between Idate's Futon jutsu, and Ebisu's substitutions, which were quickly draining his chakra.
However, what surprised Mizuki the most were the Jutsus that Idate used.
First when he had seen them in the Forest, and now again, they all seemed to be eerily familiar, although from where, he could not quite pin down.
In the end, the boy admitted defeat upon feeling that he was scraping the bottom of the barrel for chakra, barely having enough to even complete a few more substitution jutsus.
The match ended up being one of the quickest so far, ending in just a short five minutes
The next match however, was one whos result was decided as the ballot was cast.
One which even the participants and proctors knew the result would be.
"Doto: Would Kakashi Hatake and Raido both descend to the stage please?"
Raido walked over, quivering slightly as he was faced with the reality of facing the prodigy.
However, he would try nonetheless.
. . . . .
Doto: "Are you both ready?"
Both of the boys nodded.
Doto: "Begin"
The jonin swiped his hand down before giving the genin their space. Again, by leaping onto the balcony.
Although as he landed and observed the battle, a look of shock descended on his face.
The battle was already over.
As soon as the proctor stated that the match had begun, Kakashi used the body flicker to vanish from Raido's sight, causing the boy to look around confused.
However, the boy's instincts started to flare up, as he realized where Kakashi was.
Behind him.
But by this point, it was too late.
Kakashi delivered the final blow of the match, by chopping the back of his opponent's neck, causing Raido to collapse like a sack of potatoes.
Doto: "Winner: Kakashi Hatake"
. . . . .
[1] The wiki says that Rin has a fire, water, and yang affinity, despite the only jutsu she has being mystic palm. So this is how I decided to give her some.
Chapter is late bc Im big stupid and fell asleep when writing it.
Im trying to breeze through the first round, as a lot of the matches are kind of boring (Mizuki vs Filler Boi), (Kakashi vs Filler Boi), (Filler Boi vs Filler Boi), with there only being a couple of good ones sprinkled in (Namely, Anko vs Rin, and Asuma vs Kurenai), with the really spicy matches only really starting in Round two.
Round One will conclude next chapter.
Next chapter will be released at normal time.
