Vorbuk stayed up watching the pirates out the window. He could hear the restless sounds of Prince Leo on the bed behind him. The prince was unable to sleep. However Sebastian was already deep into his slumber and resting up for the trip.
"This isn't going to work." Prince Leo said as he sat up on the bed. He had completely given up on sleeping because of the coffin in the room.
The wolf looked over at the prince and asked, "What ain't working?"
"I can not sleep." Prince Leo thought for a moment before asking, "Why not take a look around while we are here? Maybe we can find something useful."
"We are not on vacation, Leo." The wolf knew what the prince really wanted was to take a look around. It was Prince Leo's chance to explore on his own in Drethia. Even if Leo was a prince he had never set foot in Drethia Kingdom in the past. It was a new place for him.
Prince Leo wanted to pout at the rejection from the wolf, "Are you really not curious?"
Sebastian rolled over in his sleep. The wolf wondered if they were being too loud for him. Looking back at the prince he knew it was a bad idea to ignore the captain's warning about this place. Night was the most active time for Drethia Kingdom's residents. Vampires preferred to move about the night.
"Alright." Vorbuk sighed as she changed into his human form, the black fog fading in and out around him as he stepped towards the prince, "We must be careful though."
"What could go wrong?" Prince Leo asked while considering himself a cautious person.
Vorbuk sighed heavily as he replied with, "You are already raising flags."
"Raising flags?" Prince Leo was confused by what he said. Though he could tell that Vorbuk was not feeling very confident in them going around the mansion.
Vorbuk did not explain what he meant to the prince. Instead he headed quietly to the door of the room and left. The prince followed him quietly from behind. Entering the hallway they both walked down the winding stairs they came up.
As they got to the lower half of the stairs they could hear a group of guests gossiping amongst themselves. It was difficult to hear what they were saying at first. The closer they got the more their words became comprehensible to Vorbuk,
"The werewolves are attacking the dwarves?" "What has become of the continent?" "I heard their new king-"
The words were meaningless to Vorbuk as they held no true information for him. It was only useful to know that word of his attack on Brolan had already reached Drethia Kingdom. War with Brolan should have the Drethia King distracted. He would be curious to know which side wins the war.
A slight growl escaped his throat while walking by the guests that were whispering about Theapan. His eyes flickered a red glow as he glanced at them out of the corner of his eye. It seemed intimidating to the guests that saw him. They shivered at the sight until Vorbuk was gone. Unsure of what had happened their acquaintances questioned what happened.
While walking alongside Prince Leo they came across a room. The entrance to the room was a two sided door with a servant on each side. Approaching the door they opened it from both sides together.
"Welcome guest to Maroon Inn's Shadow Room." They both spoke in unison with a bow.
The shadow room of Maroon Inn was where all sorts of things went down. Guests would gamble in various ways like pool, cards, dice, darts, and even more bloody methods. It was similar to witnessing a casino that had been blended with a bar. In fact many guests were drinking a fresh liquid in delicate glasses. It was dark red and gave off a familiar feeling. Vorbuk knew what they drank in Maroon Inn.
Maroon Inn ran their own blood farm. Serving fresh blood up to their guests in delicate glasses. At a glance it could be mistaken as red wine. Vampires needed blood to live and blood farms were common among Drethia Kingdom.
"Where should we go first?" Prince Leo asked while looking around the place.
Vorbuk looked over everything carefully. It would be best if he did not seem too much like a tourist. Looking at Prince Leo made it difficult to consider how he would stand out less. He was relieved the prince was remaining calmer then expected. Though he still felt like the prince resembled and excited pup at the sight of something new.
He did not see many things that interested him. The more he looked the more he felt he did not belong in this place. Eventually he caught sight of something that was familiar to him.
Vorbuk smiled and grabbed the prince by his clothes and pulled him along, "I have an idea."
A moment later they arrived at it. In front of them stood a card table. Vorbuk had spent many days in bars. Most of them were times he spent fooling around because of how resentful he was with his life. In that time he had learnt a few things on his own.
Prince Leo was not familiar with the game in front of him so he asked in a whisper so that the strangers at the table did not hear him talking to Vorbuk, "What is this game?"
"I picked up a few things in my days as a human." Vorbuk reassured the prince.
"Ah, we have new arrivals to the Maroon Inn." One of the vampires spoke with a smile that exposed his fangs. He seemed excited to see a new player. The man was someone who enjoyed winning at games and taking the winnings with him.
Vorbuk smiled calmly and replied as he sat down across from the vampire, "We will not be staying long. I am only passing through."
"Hmm..?" The vampire seemed to study him carefully before introducing himself, "You can call me Kaiser."
I don't need your name. I don't want to know you. Vorbuk complained internally while maintaining his outward calm demeanor. He was only sitting down to gamble with the group.
Prince Leo stood back behind Vorbuk and watched as they played the game. Bets would be made with jewels, money, and other objects of value. It was even possible to bet properties. Gambling done by the guests at Maroon Inn was always done with valuable things. They did not make small bets and to enter the game Vorbuk had to place one.
Vorbuk in that moment felt relieved at his position as King of Theapan. Using his own funds from working with guild master, Seon. When it came to money that was something that Vorbuk could now easily provide on his own. He no longer had to look to Prince Leo for help. From personal experience in his past life at growing his own wealth from a childhood with nothing he had learnt how to invest.
It was after placing his own bet on the game that his body froze. His eyes looked over the item that Kaiser pulled out of his own spacial ring. It was a large egg. Placing a rare item on the table as if it was casual wear.
What beast did that egg belong to? A griffin.
Kaiser was betting a griffin's egg with a bright expression on his face. Where did he get that rare egg?
