Lucia was not pleased when the queen's assistant walked into the room. She had a woman behind her who, thankfully, stayed outside the room. For the first time since she had entered the palace, she was making use of the office in her apartment.
She sat down when the queen's assistant, Lynda—her name was Lynda—indicated for her to do so.
"We have chosen Miss Valerie Grace to be your assistant," she announced. "She will be on trial for the next six months, and if you like her, she will be offered a year's contract."
Lucia remembered Valerie Grace. She had been soft-spoken but very decisive in her responses. She had not disliked her. That was something. She looked at Lynda and smiled politely.
"I understand," her voice was a little husky but sure. "Thank you, Lynda."
Lynda smiled, and it reached her eyes a little.
"What are her duties?" Lucia asked.
