Habit

Kessiana's pov

I wake up to the sound of my annoying alarm. I groan,I forgot to turn it off last night.

I get up take off my shorts and my big faded shirt I took from my brother. I walk into the bathroom, brush my teeth, Its hot but I still go for a hot bath I love the steam . I know I'm wierd.

I dry and comb out my hair and pack it in a loose ponytail. I don't do makeup except on special occasions so I just put on lipgloss.

I throw on a grey tank top and black leggings and head down stairs.

I hear noises coming from the kitchen. I didn't expect anyone to be home. I walk into the kitchen to see who it is.

"I see you are up" my mom said as I walked into the kitchen. "I came in really late last night and I didn't want to wake you, did you sleep well?"

"Ok mum, Yes I did" I lied. I couldn't sleep, I kept turning and turning till 4am.I just dont want to bother her with my issues. I say while entering the kitchen and savouring the sweet smell of pancakes.

"Okay sweetheart" Now go sit down I'll serve you breakfast.

"Thanks mum" I said walking to where she stood and gave her a kiss.

Mum serves me breakfast and takes the seat across me."So tell me how has school been" she said while putting honey on her pancake.

"Uhm, school is fine Mum just some assignments and some other stuff and yeah the homecoming dance is next friday" I said while eating a piece of my pancake.

"Hmnn so have you gotten a dress and who is your date" Mum said with a smile.

"I'm not going mum" I answer .

"Why?" She asks while her smile fades. " I just don't want to I'd rather stay in my room reading a good book than embarrassing myself in a dress"

"You would really look nice in a dress" She smiles.

"Well, dear you know what would be better than lying in bed and reading a good book.?" She said looking at me

I shake my head. "What could be better than that?" I asked

"Movie night" Mom said smiling at me. I smile back I've missed having movie night with my mom.

"Really!!" I said excited "That would be really nice but mum are you gonna be free?"I said the smile on my face slowly fades. My mom is neurosurgeon and she's always busy and is hardly home.

"I can take the day off dear" she said like she read my mind.

"Mum you have patients and they need you." Even though I miss my mom and I want to spend time with her I don't what to do it at the expense of her patients.

"Kessiana..." Mum starts but is interrupted by her phone ringing. "Ive got to take this" she said looking at the screen.

She stands up and walks to the living room to take the call. I clear the table and head to my room to get my converse. I put on my black converse grab my headphone and head down stairs.

As I head towards the door I hear my mom's voice " kess I've gotta go to the hospital its urgent and I don't know when I'll be back" she walks out of the kitchen and towards me.

Its nothing new I'm used to it." Ok mum see you later then" I give her a hug,grab my keys from the table and head out.

I have no plan of where I'm heading to but I just need a walk I put on my headphone and play Only by Nf.I really love the song,I've been trying to sing along to the rap and I think I'm making progress.

I continue walking down the road. The road is kind of quiet with few people walking and some kids playing skip the rope.

I suddenly start craving for ice cream and start walking to the icecream shop which is five blocks away.

I take my phone and start scrolling trying to pick what song to play next when I bump into someone.

I think I'm already making bumping into people an habit.

"Watch where you're going" his voice deep and cold a slight annoyed tone.

"I'm sorry" I said looking up at the stranger.He has long curly jet black hair,blue ocean eyes that seems to hold a lot behind it makes me want to know how it looks when he smiles ...

I shake my head to get rid of my thoughts as I remember I'm still standing in the way and staring at him. I move to the side and make way for him.

I continue walking to the ice cream shop his face still lingering in my mind. I turn to look back at him but he was no longer there.

I walk into the ice cream shop and order a chocolate flavoured icecream.

I take a seat in a table in the corner of the shop which has a good view of the neighbourhood and feel my phone vibrate. I check and see I have a message from Amelia. I click it and wait for it to open.
