387. Fu Xun's Fear & Amazement

His entire body was riddled with pain from top to bottom, and it was only the tonic from his wife that reduced the pain he was feeling, and all the care that was given by Lady Cai touched his heart causing him to rethink his choices that caused the Cai Clan to suffer a lot of losses, as he is oblivious that all of this was planned by his wife and brother in law where they even had planned for him to be bedridden forever.

As Liu Biao was given the tonic by Lady Cai, Liu Cong, and Cai Mao came to visit the sick Liu Biao. Hearing that his son came to visit him, Liu Biao was pleased by his youngest son's filial piety to him, unlike Liu Qi.

Who had betrayed him by joining hands with Liu Bei and overthrowing him from his seat of power in Xiangyang, and now doesn't even send him a single letter asking about his condition as he is sure that the news of his sickness must have spread out wide.

"Father, how are you feeling? I hope that the tonics that mother gave to you help you reduce the pain", Liu Cong asked Liu Biao as he held Liu Biao's hand and sat beside his father.

Liu Biao put his other hand above Liu Cong's hand and patted it gently, "I'm okay my son, the tonics work perfectly *cough* to at least alleviate some of my pain *cough*, is there any news what kind of disease I have?", as he looked at Liu Cong eyes full of hope.

Liu Cong turned to Cai Mao and saw him shake his head, indicating that no one had cracked what kind of disease Liu Biao had, and this caused Liu Cong to be filled with sadness not knowing that he was excluded from knowing many things.

As Liu Cong's face filled with sadness, Liu Biao noticed this, and his face was shrouded with fear and sadness for his future, Lady Cai from the side saw the facial expression of the father and son pair.

"Don't worry husband, I have tried to contact the miraculous doctors Hua Tuo and Zhang Zhongjin who live in Xiapi, to ask for their help.", Lady Cai put the bowl filled with tonics on the table as she said so.

Hearing what his wife and mother have just said, both Liu Biao and Liu Cong perked up their ears and became optimistic and hopeful for Liu Biao's unknown sickness to be found.

"But mother, are you sure that Lie Fan would allow Hua Tuo and Zhang Zhongjin to come here no, would even allow them to reply to your letter?", after having his mind cleared from happiness, Liu Cong turned his head and asked Lady Cai.

The question caught Kady Cai off guard because she only said that to show herself supportive of Liu Biao, and tried her best for Liu Biao as she never sent these letters to Hua Tuo and Zhang Zhongjin.

Cai Mao who was standing at the door overlooking the three do them knew that his sister was lying, because if she ever wanted to send a letter outside of the town she would ask him for help to send it.

Seeing his sister flustered and not knowing how to respond to Liu Cong's question, Cai Mao let out a cough tracking the attention of everyone in the room including Liu Biao who was bedridden.

After making sure that everyone's attention was on him, then Cai Mao helped his sister respond while closing the door behind him, "Don't worry Young Lord, I will be the one personally to ensure that the letter will arrive at the hands of Hua Tuo and Zhang Zhongjin."

Liu Cong hearing this nodded his head in full belief in his uncle, while Lady Cai heaved a sigh of relief while patting her chest but before she could be fully relieved Liu Biao looked at Cai Mai dead in the eye, while his hand that held Liu Cong's hand began to tighten.

"Then I believe in you brother in law, Hua Tuo and Zhang Zhongjin are my only hope now, and if they manage to discover what disease I had I will reinstate you and have the entire Cai Clan restored to power.", Liu Biao voice full of seriousness promised this to Cai Mao with his eyes full of hope, and Liu Cong who's hand was being held by Liu Biao shut his mouth enduring the pain to not cause his father to be sad.

Cai Mao nodded his head and swore to Liu Biao that he would do his best, not because of the reward he promised but because Liu Biao was his lord and brother in law.

These words touched Liu Biao's heart and caused him to once again regret the treatment he had done to the Cai Clan previously, and Cai Mao smirked as he saw that Liu Biao had been tricked by him.

As Liu Biao and Liu Cong slowly turned into a puppet in the hands of Cai Mao, Lady Cai, and the Cai Clan, the whole land was shaken by the news of Liu Biao catching a deadly unknown disease.

The news was further exaggerated by people as they heard that until now no doctors had managed to uncover what kind of disease Liu Biao had, and Liu Qi who was in Xinye hearing this news rode to Xiangyang with Fu Xun to meet with Liu Bei.

When the two of them met, it was at Liu Bei's residence where Liu Qi and Fu Xun were hosted by Liu Bei at the main hall of his residence.

Liu Bei from a cup of tea that was put on a table beside him, and after taking a sip he turned to Liu Qi, "Qi'er what are the reasons you came here today? You didn't even inform me that you will visit Xiangyang.", said Liu Bei as he put down the cup back to the table.

"Sorry for not informing you first Foster Father, the reason that I came in such a hurry is to as have you heard the news that my father was afflicted with an unknown illness?", Liu Qi replied Liu Bei's question while his feet couldn't stop shaking due to his nervousness for his father health.

Liu Bei's eyes were passed with a fierce glint after hearing Liu Qi's reply, but he managed to remain calm and change his facial expression to a sad expression, "Yes I have heard of the news Qi'er, it was sad news to listen to. Have you sent a letter to ask the condition of your father to Wuling?".

Liu Qi shook his head and his hand gripped tightly where even some veins in his arms could be seen, "I haven't sent a letter to Wuling, Foster Father. I was afraid that my letter would be thrown away.", said Liu Qi looking at Liu Bei with eyes imploring for the help of guidance.

Liu Bei chuckled inside his heart seeing the imploring look from Liu Qi, he truly had this young man at the grasp of his palm like a pawn at a chess board.

He wanted to eliminate Liu Qi after all of this was done because he had no more needs for him, but now seeing the fervent look for him in Liu Qi's eyes like a lost sheep looking for guidance filled him with satisfaction.

Liu Bei stood up and approached Liu Qi, then put his hand on Liu Qi's shoulder, "Why do you need to be afraid, send the letter and forget about the consequences, show your father that you care about his wellbeing, unlike what the Cai Clan said to him."

"Then do you think I should send it now, Foster Father? I had written the letter last night before coming here", as he was saying that Liu Qi takes out a piece envelope showing it to Liu Bei who takes it from his hand.

Liu Bei then asked for permission to open the letter that Liu Qi gave, and after reading the content of the letter he turned to Liu Qi, "You shouldn't send it right now Qi'er, there's some words you need to change. How about I help you and we send it later at night?"

Liu Qi immediately nodded his head and gave his agreement, while blaming himself inward as to why he couldn't write a single letter that could pass Liu Bei's approval.

As Liu Bei and Liu Qi were conversing, Fu Xun from the sides was evaluating the exchanges that happened between the two and saw how masterful Liu Bei was in creating and guiding Liu Qi to his narrative.

Making Liu Qi believed that every idea was from Liu Bei, even though it was actually he who suggested the idea first, but denied by Liu Bei who then changed his words into different words but with the same purpose.

This caused Fu Xun to be terrified and amazed at Liu Bei at the same time because in the last he looked down on this man who only used his background, which couldn't even be proven.

Now he realized that he couldn't judge a book by its cover, and began to feel terrified for Li uQi because the young man had fallen into a scheme, that Liu Bei had weaved for who knows how long.

After spending time with Liu Qi at Xinye who tries his best to persuade him and cajole him to join Liu Bei's side, he finally presented not because of Liu Bei's reputation but due to Liu Qi's hard will.

While Fu Xun was thinking so, Liu Bwi who was talking with Liu Qi could feel a scrutinizing gaze from the side, and when he glanced to the side he saw Fu Xun who was looking at him full of curiosity mixed with fear.

He was shocked by Fu Xun's action because he felt that Fu Xun managed to peek through his facade and act that he had perfected for many years, and he was afraid that everything he had built would be in jeopardy due to this.

So he turned toward Fu Xun, who was surprised by his action as to why Kiu Bei suddenly turned to him, "Qi'er, this is master Fu Xun correct? How is his condition while staying with you at Xinye?", asked Liu Bei to Liu Qi while keeping his eyes on Fu Xun.

Asked by Liu Bei, Liu Qi stood up from his chair and approached Fu Xun where he then used his arm to point to Fu Xun at his side with an open arm, "Yes Foster Father, this is Master Fu Xun. He is living well at Xinye with me and has agreed to swear his allegiance to you, that's why I brought him here to introduce him to you on better terms!", Liu Qi said excitedly not noticing the dark look that passed Liu Bei's expression, which Fu Xun takes notice immediately.
