Direct Confrontation

When his wife finally calmed down, Physician Lan went for another drive. This time, his destination was Central Street and he maintained the maximum speed limit. His red car swerved fast and only went to a full stop when he arrived at the tall gate of an enormous mansion.

On the side of the gate, there was a golden plaque with scribbled letters: Jinzi Manor

Physician Lan extended his hand and pressed the electronic doorbell on the side of the golden plaque.

When the old butler approached the car, he quickly recognized the man in the driver's seat. This butler was a Beta but he was very knowledgeable of the influential families in the Xerulean City. He even memorized their official names.

"Alpha Ningzhong of the Lan Family, my apologies for not coming right away. Please come this way to the visitor's hall. I shall inform the Chairman of your presence," the butler offered a customary bow and gestured for the man to enter. His tone was also polite and respectful.

"It's okay. I came here out of my own will and have no proper invitation from the Chairman. I'll stay here. Could you do me a favor and tell your Chairman to return my second child?" Physician Lan's voice was cold and emotionless.

The butler almost flinched after he spoke his request.

This had always been the rule that the Xerulean citizens follow to avoid offending big families. If an Alpha entered the territory of another Alpha, it would be considered a blunt intrusion that legally allows the territory owner to kill the intruder. The proper invitation was not just a formality but also a protection. Unless, one had a death wish.

The butler felt like he just committed a grave mistake. Because Alpha Ningzhong had always been the best physician in the city, he assumed that Chairman Jinzi had invited the man for a visit to his house. After all, the Jinzi family had been pursuing doctors since they gave birth to their son!

But beyond that, the butler also looked conflicted. If this physician was not invited, then how could his second child be inside the manor? "Alpha Ningzhong, your second child? B-But young master Zhongyao is not here."

"No, I did not ask if my son is inside the manor or not. I ask you to tell your Chairman to return my second child. Just simply pass my message. I will wait here," Physician Lan spoke in a stern tone. He subconsciously massaged the bridge of his nose as he managed his composure.

The butler was also quick to sense the ranging temper that the Alpha was trying to hide. He nodded his head and lowered his gaze. "Yes, I will go and pass your message to the chairman, right away. Please excuse me, Alpha Ningzhong."

The old man ran hastily and went to the dining hall. It just so happened that the Chairman and Mrs. Jinzi were actually having their dinner. But he could not also delay the head Alpha of the Lan Family.

The butler had no choice but to whisper his report to the Chairman and hoped that he won't get angry for such a distraction.

"Chairman, my apologies for disturbing your meal. Alpha Ningzhong of the Lan family is outside the manor. He asked me to pass a message but I am not sure what he meant. He strangely said that you return his second child, young master Zhongyao? Alpha Ningzhong looked very upset, Chairman."

Surprisingly, the chairman put down the fork on his plate and faced the butler. His expression reflected a slight confusion. "I could sense Ningzhong's anger. But, I don't know about the whereabouts of the second child of the Lan family. Is he a friend of Weifeng?"

"Young master Weifeng only has one close friend. It's not from the Lan Family, chairman," the butler quickly answered.

"Give an official invitation to Ningzhong and let him enter the guest hall. There must be some sort of misunderstanding. It's better if I talk to him there," Chairman Jinzi casually instructed and stood from his seat. "I have an important visitor, my wife. Enjoy your meal and take a rest."

Mrs. Jinzi nodded her head and did not say a word. Her mind was already preoccupied with the thoughts of her son's safety that he could not be bothered by the chairman. It was her dinner meal without Weifeng on the table.

Chairman Jinzi did not think too much of his wife's reaction either. He directly strode away from the dining table and went to the guest hall.

Outside the manor, the butler also guided Physician Lan and after 5 minutes, the two dominant Alphas finally met face-to-face.

"Ningzhong, have a seat. I know you don't drink whiskey---"

"Let's forget about formality, Chairman---"

"Please, stop calling me Chairman. It's just the two of us. Just call me Kuan. We were once playmates when we were kids, Ningzhong. Why are you so formal when you just said that we can forget formalities?"

This chairman's official name was indeed Kuan Jinzi. But, not even a single soul in the city used his name when addressing him to avoid offending the Jinzi family.

Physician Lan clenched his hand tightly and furrowed his brows. "If you insist. Give me back my second child, Kuan."

"I don't have your second child, Ningzhong. Even if you asked someone to search all the corners of this manor, he is not here. I have never seen your second child! Why would I hide him in my house?" the chairman refuted, unable to comprehend why this fellow Alpha was actually demanding something that he was not aware of.

Physician Lan observed the chairman's expression before he took a deep breath to calm himself. "My second child was kidnapped just a few hours ago. Your doctors took him."

"What!? Are you serious? My doctors would never do such a thing!"

"You're questioning my Alpha instinct? I'm still lenient right now for the sake of our family's long connection. You don't know how hard this is for me. I thought you'll understand my struggle as you also have a son! Kuan, my tolerance has a limit. Once I reached my limit, I won't hesitate to cut ties with your Jinzi family and use all means to fight against you. I really don't have any idea where your doctors got the guts to do this to my Lan family."

"Wait--- stop with your threats, Ningzhong. What kind of strange day is this? Hah! Just this afternoon, my son threatened me. Now my childhood friend is also accusing me of kidnapping! I don't really know about your son. Ahhh... How about I call the head doctor right now and confirm everything with her." the chairman was quick to grabed the wireless telephone on his desk.

But, before he could dial a number, Physician Lan coldly muttered, "Kuan, I suspected that your Jinzi family was involved when my second child was provoked to tell his classmates about his sister's condition. We are both dominant Alphas. This is why I am confronting you directly instead of going to the kidnappers."

His words actually took the chairman by surprise. The man was speechless for a while before he squinted his eyes and spoke, "You've suspected my family? Ningzhong, what kind of man do you think I am? I'll never kidnap your children!"

Physician Lan could only shake his head and gritted his teeth. "I've never said that it's you, didn't I, Kuan? Go and call your doctors. You are responsible for the actions of your employees. You better return my second child."
