15. Leading by bread crumbs

"And since he was a man it was natural that he won't be able to enter all the places like Black Widow," May stated

"Well that too but I know if the two meet in combat then Natasha will wipe the floor with his ass," said Coulson with a smile

"Why her? Even I can do that" said May with a smirk on her face.

"Yeah, that's right," said Coulson while nodding his head.

"So should we go and shake Ward for the rest of the information," May said

"No, let's leave it for tomorrow, I am gonna check if there is anything related to Werner Reinhardt in Fury's toolbox," Coulson said while he sorted the files on his table.

"So when are you leaving on the agent re-recruitment mission of yours," asked May wanting to check on Coulson's condition.

"Don't worry May, I am not leaving for at least a week what we have right now is much more important than that, plus the ones we recently found can be recruited by the Koenig brothers" Coulson stated

"You are going to let the Koenig brothers do the recruitment?" May asked with a serious voice, "What is the matter with you Coulson is there something that I should know off?"

May's question was genuine as after finding out that Hydra had infiltrated SHIELD 70 years ago, Coulson has personally vetted every agent that had joined the SHIELD since he became the director

"No, it's not like that I just want to test if the Koenig brothers are up to this task. Since Ward has started sharing information regarding Hydra, I would like to be there when we deal with them so I won't have time to recruit agents like the way I used to that's all" explained Coulson

"Hmm... when I asked you to stop pushing yourself too much and take rest you didn't, but now that Ward has started speaking you have decided to stop running around looks like he is more useful than I thought," said May while shaking her head

"Ok, I wasn't running around alright just didn't have the time to stop until now," Coulson said.

"It's good then, you really should be well-rested, Coulson" May stated

"I know May, don't worry I will go to my room after going over the files just once," Coulson said to which May nodded her head and walked out of Coulson's office.

Next Day, early morning

Coulson along with May were standing in front of the Initial Confinement Laser Barrier in Vault D, Ward was sitting on his bed staring at them waiting for them to ask the questions they needed the answer for.

"Are we playing the staring game?" seeing that the two weren't asking him any questions and continuing to stare at him, Ward couldn't help himself.

"That was quite fast," said Coulson the moment he heard Ward's question.

"He is ready to give us information so maybe that's why he couldn't handle the silence," May stated

"Hey, this thing won't work on me you know, this silent treatment doesn't work on me, I am a master of it you know if you want I can play that game too," Ward stated.

"Tell us everything about Whitehall then you can start the game," said May

"You sure about that?" asked Ward as he looked at Coulson.

Coulson of course understood that Ward was asking the question to him regarding his visit last night with Fitz so he replied "Yes, we are"

"Ok then, Since you guys are here it means you found out about Whitehall being Werner Reinhardt right?" asked Ward to which the two curtly nodded their head.

"Then it would be easy for you to understand. Born as Werner Reinhardt, he was a Nazi scientist and HYDRA general working for the Red Skull. He is the one who deeply believes in Hydra's Nazi ideology, while the other Hydra heads have changed their goals a little this guy is downright a copy of Red Skull when it comes to cruelty and such. " Ward stated as he looked at the two agents who's eyes hardened the moment they heard the last part.

"So he is a Nazi scientist who believes in Red Skull's ideology is that it?" Coulson asked

"There is more Whitehall constantly calculates and sought a person's motive before applying an action. Whitehall is dedicated to understanding and discovery. As a scientist, he is observant as well as fascinated by new situations and will experiment endlessly to find solutions to his questions. He developed a mantra of 'discovery requires experimentation' to justify his amoral experiments." Grant further explained

"Yeah, we got that when we learned what he did with the enhanced individual to regain his youth, anything else?" May asked.

"Well let's see... Whitehall is also psychopathic, and downright callous, able to commit horrible and sadistic crimes and actions without remorse. He has no empathy for his victims and even seems to enjoy torturing them. That's all I know about him" Grant said

"So, How do we get to him?" Coulson asked the million-dollar question.

"You can't " replied Grant directly.

"What do you mean Ward?" asked May

"I mean what I said May, you can't get to him. His whereabouts are unknown for most of the time and the only place you can find him in his office but then the whole building is crawling with Hydra agents you won't be able to survive that long to reach his office" Grant stated then looked at Coulson and continued, "This guy is as I said a psychotic person Coulson, the moment you enter the office building you will see one of the walls have a giant Hydra symbol on it. He doesn't have a short of fear in him,"

"If that's true then why haven't General Talbot captured him yet" May couldn't help but ask

"On, what charges? He can't do anything to them until Whitehall publically tells everyone that he is a Hydra no one can touch him just because he has a Hydra symbol on his building after all many people love myths and to the general public Whitehall is just one of those people" Grant stated

"So there isn't any way for us to get close to him"
