(07) Devil fruit

[Chapter START]

Saien and Klaus stood in their usual training spot. In front of them was Saien's emptied sack of loot. It includes notes of money, some maps along with a log pose, a bunch of shackles, and a weird looking fruit.

"Seriously? All that for shackles, a weird fruit and blue sea items we can't use yet?", Klaus was unimpressed. Considering they risked their lives, this didn't seem very much worth it to him.

"Hey hey we came back in one piece, so its not all bad. Also as I said before these shackles are the key to defeating Enel. The other stuff is also quite a huge bonus", Saien explained trying to calm his friend down.

"You're the boss I guess", Klaus sighed backing off from the arguement. "You've said that the shackles are needed to defeat Enel, but not how or why", he continued.

"These shackles will restrict all of Enel's power and make him vulnerable. Of course I doubt we'd even be able to get these on him if we trained for another two years though", Saien explained, picking up one or the shackles and presenting it to Klaus.

Seeing the confused look on Klaus' face he continued, "We're gonna go down to the old blacksmith and hopefully have him craft us a few weapons from this stuff".

"Alright, the hell is that weird looking fruit then? Did you get hungry along the way or something?", Klaus asked as he picked up the grey fruit off the ground and analysed it.

"That would be a devil fruit", Saien was surprised when Klaus nodded in understanding of what it meant. "You know about them?".

"Yeah, my grandfather was a wielder of one. He was one of the greatest warriors of Shandora, or so my parents told me. Unfortunately he fell after a surprise attack from the Skypieans", Klaus thought back to the tales he had heard of his grandfather.

'Damn, guess it really shows the depth of this world. This wasn't even mentioned in the show', Saien thought to himself. The world had easily become real life for him, perhaps because of the experiences and memories as a Shandian warrior, yet the world still seemed to throw curveballs and surprises his way.

"Then you should know, these fruits grant mysterious powers in exchange for your ability to swim. These powers vary though, you could get the ability to destroy entire islands, or you might get something wasteful like being able to produce clothes", Saien explained, pausing for a bit before continuing, "That's why I'm a bit hesitant on eating it, losing the ability to swim is a pretty huge thing in a world that hugely consists of water"

Klaus seemed to be in thought for a second, before chucking the fruit to Saien, "You're right but I still think one of us should eat it. You haven't seen what I've seen, if we're really going to fight Enel we need to grasp at every chance we have. I've seen him literally make annihilate a chunk in the white white sea. That's some scary shit. Since you're the one who found it you should eat it though"

Saien had a solemn look on his face as he listened to Klaus. His friend was speaking the truth, in order to fight someone like that monster, they really would need to grasp at every chance they've got.

"Alright", Saien said, a look of determination in his eyes. He brought the fruit up to his mouth and gave it one last look before taking a bite out of it. The rancid taste of the fruit almost made him spit it out but he persevered and gulped it down as quickly as he could to get it over with.

"Well? How is it?", Klaus asked looking at Saien curiously.

"I.. feel pretty much the same..", Saien said, going through a few motions with his fists trying to exhibit some sort of power.

Suddenly the air around became distorted and broken as he disappeared from his very spot and reappeared right next to Klaus, causing the both of them to scream out in shock and go wide-eyed.

"What the fu-", Saien disappeared again, this time appearing in his hut. He only had a couple seconds at most to process what was going on before he disappeared and reappeared again and again in different places all over the Sky lands. It finally stopped as he reappeared in his original position.

"Holy shit! What was that!?" Klaus immediately questioned while helping his friend up. Something he immediately came to regret as another teleporting spree took place, taking him along for the ride.

That day throughout Skypiea, it's citizens could faintly hear the semblances of two distinct screams appearing and disappearing just as quickly...

"STOP!", Saien shouted as he and Klaus teleported for the umpteenth time. To his pleasant surprise they actually did stop. Taking his surroundings in he saw an expanse of the sky around him, no clouds. Only when he looked down and realised they were plummeting downwards towards the sea and whatever lay below did his expression change to one of horror.

"H-HEY DO SOMETHING SAIEN!", Klaus shouted in terror as he held on to Saien's shoulder for dear life.

Saien took a deep breath as he closed his eyes. 'It listens to my commands I think.. if that's the case then take us back to the training grounds!'

They disappeared from existence it very self once again and reappeared at their starting point, at which Klaus wasted no time scurrying away from Saien.

"I think I've got the grasps of it now", Saien said between his heavy pants. Taking his sword out to use as a means to support himself. He fell to the ground though, as the air around his sword also became distorted and it disappeared.

"Got the grasps of it my ass!", Klaus sneered a bit watching Saien look at his palms confusedly. Payback for him laughing earlier.

"I can feel the sword", Saien said with a frown as he closed his eyes and focused. Klaus also stopped laughing. "Come back!", Saien commanded as he looked at his open palm. The air cracked and distorted as the swords hilt appeared in his palm followed by the entire sword. Klaus watched in bewilderment at the scene.

"I think I get it now", Saien said standing up. He looked at the sword in his right hand and it disappeared. Then he proceeded to open his left hand where the sword reappeared. "I'm pretty sure I can control and manipulate space itself".

"While people, normally have to physically travel, to their destinations cause of physics and what not, I can just directly skip across it", Saien started as he teleported ten metres in front of him. "This works for any and all directions", Saien continued as he teleported in a frenzy all around him. "I also seem to be able to store inanimate objects and call them at will at any given moment. For now I don't know if there's a limit to how much things I can store and I also don't know if I can store liquids, gases and things like fire and thunder or if it's only solid objects", he finished as he made his sword disappear, waiting a few seconds before making it reappear.

"That's a monstrous power you've gained", Klaus said with a shaky breath.

'It truly does look overpowered', Saien thought seriously. 'For example if there was no limit on what I could store, what's to stop me from dropping entire mountains on people?'

Thinking of the possibilities that his power granted him, he grinned madly, desperate to explore every possibility.

A/N: Dun dun dun... the MC has a devil fruit!

Now some notes about this chapter as a whole. The MC has what seems to be a broken devil fruit, and I'm gonna say it plainly, it really is butttt I also have some limitations in mind that I think would make sense. But but but, this doesn't mean he's suddenly gonna be able to blitz the top tiers in the verse like Kaido and what not. Although I will say one thing(spoiler alert)- for the most part, Paradise will be a breeze for the MC and Klaus and the primary focus for Saien will be building his crew and stuff. Anyways that's enough yappin from me, hopefully you enjoyed.
