CHAPTER START---

Sitting against a tree in the shade a group of 12 shinobi can be seen. One soaked and bruised while the others are mostly unharmed. Kakashi looked around and at his opponent as he had just been woken up by Asuma.

"So, I got the bell. That means you show me some jutsu right?" Jin says to Kakashi with a playful smile.

'This kid almost drowns me then asks for me to teach him,' Kakashi thought.

"How did you do that?" Sasuke suddenly spoke up for the first time since the match started.

"Awe, did what your fangirls chant get to your head Sasuke, did you already forget from the first time we met, I've always been better than you?"

"That, that's different," Sasuke says with a low growl in his voice.

"Mmm, no. It's not, while you and the other clan kids were having fun times as kids I wasn't just playing in the mud. Strength as a shinobi is all anyone needs to make something of themself in this life, I've been training since I was 4 years old and I was studying even before that. Books were pretty much all the orphanage had anyway. So while you were 4 years old spending time with your parents I was training my chakra and walking on water, cutting leaves in half. Doing anything I can short of stealing ninjutsu scrolls from the academy to prepare myself for the journey to be Hokage, so the next time someone tries to invade the village with something like the Kyubi they won't get past me. And kids won't have to grow up without a family because of it, that's the difference between us Sasuke. That's why you'll never catch up to me."

Jin finishes his little speech and the tension in the air is almost visible. As Sasuke gets up and races out of the clearing Jin looks around to see Naruto next to him looking a bit disheartened. Giving his friend a pat on the shoulder reassures him, "Hey I told you don't feel bad about that ok" intentionally garnering the attention of the 3 jounin in the little group. He can also see Ino and Sakura looking down at the floor, as if ashamed to meet his gaze.

"So sensei, when do I get my new Jutsu?" Jin asks once more, trying his best to change the topic.

"I'll give Kurenai a list of scrolls to get you, I'd usually just demonstrate them since you can somehow copy jutsu but some moron tried to drown me today," Kakashi says in a harsh tone.

"Don't worry I promise when I'm stronger I'll just beat you up the normal way ahahaha"

"Alright I think that's enough for today, dinner on me tonight for all of you, Akimichi bar-be-que at 6, go get cleaned up." Asuma happily says.

"THANK YOU SENSEI!" Naruto, Choji, and Jin say in unison as everyone else leaves the field, only the jounin remaining.

After a few minutes of silence, the elite ninja finally began to speak.

"Why did you have to get me involved in this Kurenai?" Kakashi asks in a low voice.

"I swear I didn't know he could do, that, all of that, any of that." She raises her hands up defensively.

"What the hell happened out there anyway, it looked like you should have won that right?" Asuma finally asks.

"Well either he's a genius or the luckiest moron I've ever met... second luckiest, he kept throwing me off with his weird moves."

"Weird moves?" Kurenai inquired.

"He moves his wrist into my kunai to push me off balance, at least he made me think that so that I'd hesitate, not sure how he pulled it off but maybe earth chakra to harden his body. That first kick to the head might have hurt my foot more than his head. Then I had to fight on the defensive in case those clones jumped in but they just kept watching because he expected something like a fireball."

"But they didn't stop the fireball," Asuma says.

"No, but they were positioned to see me weave any hand seals, then I saw them back up to practice it while he ran INTO the flames and came out unharmed after throwing a wind release kunai at me with perfect accuracy from his sensing. How the flames barely even scratched him is a question by itself but he already figured out that clones relay information when they are released"

"Yeah this raises a lot of questions, maybe I should ask my old man some more about this kid, huh Kurenai?" Asked Asuma, desperate to get answers.

"He also knows the multi shadow clone jutsu as well as how he ignored the fire damage, the multi shadow clone jutsu is forbidden," Kurenai added.

"Naruto used it too, he learned it from the jutsu scroll and likely taught Jin it, I did a check and they've been close since forever really, as for the fireball, I've got a theory but. I think it's his earth chakra hardening his skill. If I wanted my lightning could have ended the fight but he's just a genin, his clones were completely different from Naruto's. When they had room I couldn't hit them even from their blind spots. He clearly practiced a lot with them, unlike naruto."

"So he's good at all ranges so far and can make a small army, what jutsu do we give this little monster hahaha?" Joked Asuma.

"His clones seem to drain him a lot the more he makes, he had to back up to gather more chakra when he made the huge set. That's likely why he started with 2. I think you should give him some basic jutsu in every element. Judging from his fireball and water walls he can definitely handle the chakra costs. I'll give you something for his chakra training tomorrow." Kakashi said as he slowly got up with a hand over the slash on his chest.

"Thank you for this Kakashi, I owe you one," Kurenai says.

"Yes and don't forget it, now I need to go find Sasuke," Kakashi says before disappearing from the training ground.

---Meanwhile with the genin...

The 8 genins can be seen in a small park having a conversation not dissimilar to what their teachers just had. Sitting on the grass under a large tree they had their heated discussion.

"HOW DID YOU BEAT KAKASHI SENSEI!" Naruto started the conversation of course by yelling as loud as he can.

"Not so loud Naruto, and if he wanted to he could have easily won, all I did was keep him off guard by constantly giving him something new to think about, Shikamaru what do you think?"

"Hm, me? Well, you kept him defending and never used the same move twice. And I think I saw you move toward his kunai because you knew he wasn't trying to kill you right. Then you just kept him busy so he can't recover and wore him down before you eventually got one hit then tried to drown him, did I get it." Shikamaru said while scratching the back of his head.

"Damn, you really are a genius, that's exactly it. I knew he wouldn't kill me and Sharingan takes too much chakra for him to outlast me, then I just tried to drown him."

"Isn't drowning someone a bit much?" Sakura questions.

"Isn't burning someone alive a bit much Sakura, besides if he was willing to kill me he would have electrified the water and fried me."

"You really copied his jutsu, hmm," Shino says drawing Jin's attention.

"Yeah, I told you guys how I did that on the first day of class didn't I"

"I, kind of assumed you lied," Ino admits.

"That's.....fair actually"

"Did you have to be so mean to Sasuke?" Sakura then spoke up.

"And there it is, can't you shut up about him for one day. He doesn't look at you and you never stop talking about him. Until he stops acting like an arrogant jerk I'm never gonna go easy on him."

"What jutsu are you hoping to get?" Hinata then finally spoke up.

"Mmmmm, earth wall, water shockwave, and water dragon, lots of the good fire style are just variants of the great fireball so I can figure those out. Great breakthrough for wind and I've already got plans for a wind style I read about in a history book. No idea for lightning right now."

"That's a lot of jutsu, you think Kurenai sensei will give those to you?" Shikamaru questions.

"Because of our team, yes. Hinata is taijutsu and byakugan. Shino is tracking and support mainly with his clan techniques. I'm our main sensor and artillery. Having me stack up on lots of ninjutsu will be best for our team. I'd rather have jutsu and never need them than lose a teammate because I didn't have it right."

"Yeah, that makes sense."

"I gotta go get cleaned up now, that water jutsu got me soaked, see you guys later," Jin said before getting up and jumping to a nearby rooftop.

"Looks like it actually did pay off, kinda wish I joined him back then," Shikamaru says as he leans back and watches the clouds.

"What?" Ino questions, her curiosity piqued.

"He spent everyday training since we met him, even when we were playing he spent most of his time training. When we were swimming in the river he was walking on the water already. It's only fair that he would be this far ahead of us."

"Yeah, BUT THAT JUST MEANS I'VE GOTTA WORK EVEN HARDER TO BECOME HOKAGE!" Naruto yells at the top of his lungs.
