The cult
After convincing his parents to let him take his katana with him, the three of them departed. After some time they reached their destination, but before they could knock on the door, Quark opened the door.
"Oh, you're finally here, come in." He said while gesturing to the three of them.
After the three of them entered the house, Temae and the girls came to greet them too. Hanami started talking with Temae about different things, while Kurai followed after his wife.
"Kaji, let's go, we are going to have dinner now!" Rem said while smiling.
"Rem cooked after all." Ram added, making her sister blush a bit.
Kaji, hearing this couldn't help but smile, The twins led him to the dining room where a table was placed. On the table, many dishes mostly consisted of meat, fish, and vegetables. Soon everyone was enjoying their meals, while talking about different topics.
"Kurai did the chief say anything new?" Quark asked.
"Yeah, he says that the other hunters picked up some sort of unnatural movement from the animals of the forest. They started behaving strangely like they were scared of something." Kurai said seriously.
"That's bad, do you think some sort of predatory animal showed up like last time?" Quark asked.
"It's possible, but won't know until tomorrow morning, the chief asked some of the hunters to see what was wrong by sending them deeper into the forest." Kuari sai.
"Stop talking about such things while eating!" Hanami slapped her husband's head.
"Sorry…" That was all he could say in this situation.
While the parents of the kids were talking, Kaji looked at Rem. "Rem, did you make this?" He pointed at the grilled fish with his shop sticks.
"Yes…" Rem looked at him while nodding.
"It's really good!" He said while giving her a thumbs up. Rem smiled sweetly while thinking that she should make it even better next time.
While the two families were eating, and chatting happily. Inside the forest, a hunter named Hangi was patrolling the oni village, he was on guard because of the chief's orders. He didn't really see or feel any movement inside the forest, and that only alarmed him. But soon he felt pain in his chest area, he looked down to see a dagger piercing his chest. The dagger had a red handle while being shaped like a cross.
Hangi wanted to shout, and warn everyone else, but he was too late. Because the moment he turned his head he saw a clocked individual, which tried to stab him in the throat, but to the surprise of the cloaked individual. Hangi crouched down before taking an arrow from a quiver, which was hanging on his hip. He quickly moved and stabbed the cloaked individual right in the eye.
"Ahh…." Before the cloaked one could shout from pain another one took his head.
"Who the fuck are you guys…." Hangi asked them, but received no answer from them.
To his surprise, there were more of them than he could count, but before he could think of a way out of here, he heard a voice of a man. " What are you guys waiting for, kill him."
Hanig smiled seeing that he was near a place where Kaji placed a trap, he saw a string near his feet, so he didn't hesitate and tripped it with his leg. The trap was activated and from under the moss, big wooden spears appeared from to different sides and pierced at least twenty of them. But this trap would also inform the village of someone approaching.
Hangi smiled madly as he charged at the enemy in front of him, he would rather die like an oni fighting, than run to save his life. He didn't care for his own safety, he only cared for the village, as he charged at the enemy in front of him thinking he could give the villagers more time to prepare for the fight.
Inside the chief house, where some hunters were, just in case of an emergency, they saw the signal of a trap being activated. They looked at the loose string and realized that it was in the direction where Hangi was patrolling.
"Quickly, sound the bell, and the others go find Hangi now!" Roared the chief seeing the signal of a trap placed by Kaji activated.
The hunters quickly dispersed after bowing to the chief.
