I took advantage of everyone's surprise that I was alive and walking to zoom to Danny Merchant uninterrupted. Said merchant jumped at my sudden appearance in his doorway. He and his small family had been set up in a simple stone room with basic furniture and a single glass window, though it looked like they all had to share a bed.

I asked for dark colored cloth or dark underwear, and he'd come out with black bloomers and just a strap of black scrap cloth that had been leftover from making them.

"Why were you making black bloomers?" I asked, not that it wasn't terribly convenient for me.

"People have different tastes," he'd just said airily.

"But if you're going to spice up the bedroom, why bloomers? Why not, I don't know, something more - "

"I am not an intimates designer," he'd said quickly, glancing pointedly behind him where his little daughter, now a young teenager, watched on. "And this is going to cost you extra."
