The Knight in shining armour

I felt someone nudging me on my shoulder, I open my eyes to see blue hair flash in front of my eyes, as I blinked.

I rubbed my eyes and spoke, "What is it, Justin?"

Justin looked a bit panicked as I spoke, "Your Royal Highness...I needed to wake you up. I had no choice."

I rubbed my temples as I spoke, "It's fine, is Robert?"

"Yes, Your Royal Highness, Robert is here and we are waiting for you to try on the garments for tomorrow's ball".

I nodded my head as I got up to get to my bedroom. As I walked, I noticed Justin glancing at me.

I asked, "What is it?" I didn't know why he kept staring at me like some kind of meat.

"Your Royal Highness, you have changed!" I was surprised and a bit shocked, he wouldn't think that I am not the real Evan, right? I kept my composer as I spoke,

"What do you mean?" I frowned at that to highlight Evan's nature, who liked to frown at his subordinates a lot.

Justin uttered excitedly as he said, "You have become kinder, Your Royal Highness!"

While Outside I just nodded at him with a cold expression, while inside I was screaming in relief at not being caught.

With that, we reached my resting chambers as Robert stood outside and saluted me. I nodded at him as I entered the room to find a piece of clothing on the bed. It was a set which consisted of a sparkly white-gold shirt that was buttoned up. A jacket which had lots of jewels attached to it, from

Rubies to Diamonds.

The buttons were made of Sapphire which glimmered in the light while the chuff was of gold. At last, the pants were also the only ordinary clothing here. I am sure, the whole would have cost a nation, that's why they couldn't survive.

I frowned at this, I should change this, if I wore this tomorrow I would be shredded to death, especially in this situation of a money crisis.

I called to Robert, as Robert and Justin stood beside each other in nervousness. "Robert, you change these clothes and remove all these jewels from them".

Both of them were shell-shocked as they stood there. Robert had a pale face while Justin on the other hand, looked as if his soul

was taken away. Justin hesitated to speak as he motioned to Robert. Robert had his lips pressed tightly as he finally spoke nervously with fear in his voice.

"Your Royal Highness, we don't have much time till tomorrow, the garments for tomorrow's ball wouldn't be able to change this fast, we don't have that many resources to remake them!"

He said as he kneeled on the floor.

I scowled at that, what was wrong with their brain circuit? I wanted to give these funds to the poor but they thought I wanted to waste more money. I won't blame them but still, this is too much.

I said, "Get up! When did I say I needed it to be remade? All I said was to remove the jewels and to be used for the commoners. These shouldn't be wasted on me but on my people".

Both, Justin and Robert were surprised as Justin started crying all of a sudden. I got startled by that.

I fumbled with my hands as I spoke, "Why are you crying? I still need you to go find me another set of clothes for tomorrow's ball, also which should not be very glamorous like this one. I can't wear something like this when my people are suffering".

This time it was not only Justin who was sobbing, but Robert also started tearing up. I didn't know what to do in this situation, after a few minutes as I just stared at them crying, Robert got up and took the glamorous clothes away. Justin who was still in a daze rose with red eyes.

He spoke, "Your Royal Highness! I go get your garments for tomorrow's ball". With that, he rushed out as I was left alone in the room.

I stared out the window in a daze to understand what happened. Oh wow! At least I left a good impression on them.

I wondered as I spoke, "System, can you see what the male lead is doing?" as I said that I picked up the documents under the bed which I hid in the morning. In this was the information of the male lead, what he likes? What does he hate? All was in it. I skimmed through it.

"Yes host, the male lead is working in his office in his mansion". I nodded at that as I sat down and examined his profile. He hates the rich and loves the poor.

Hmm, maybe I could pretend to be poor and that's when this idea stuck with me. I got up and changed my clothes to the Commoners wore clothes. This idea may seem idiotic but it may work. Now I won't exactly be a commoner but a commoner 'hero'.

I smirked as stared at the mirror looking at my poor self. I had a worn-out brown shirt and black torn pants with old-looking shoes. Except for my body which looked like a poor boy's my face, was radiating like the sun in the sky. I sighed at that. Even though I was not the male lead that didn't mean that the second male lead didn't have his own aura.

Before Justin could come back, I took off the place as some shadow guards followed me from behind. Now if you wondered since when did I have these ' shadow guards' like the emperor? Well, long story short Evan always had them since he was little as he was the only prince of the empire. Yet Evan hated them and because of that he never let them follow him. However, I am different, I know nothing about this world than Evan's knowledge about it, and that's why it's important to keep them by my side.

Before I took a carriage to town, I slapped some sand on my face as the shadow guard behind me stared at me in confusion and contempt.

The reason the shadow guard was here was that I kept them as my bodyguard. Now, that was smart of me! Wasn't it?

The guy's name was Dark. Now you can't expect a better name for a person who is a killing machine. You may have never heard of them but they are young children who are taken care of from a young age by the people of the emperor. Later they are trained to kill and protect the royalty like assassins.

The reason I chose this guy is because he is the strongest and also because he was in the novel. Yes! In the novel, since Evan was the sub-male lead who was like air, Dark was the sub-male lead who was a knight in shining armour for the heroine.

He had white hair like the fur of a polar bear and Green eyes like the emerald. He was quite tall, the same height as Evan. His skin was pretty white too. He was the exact character in novels who loved the heroine in secret and protected her in front of her. He was the fellow that the heroine considered a 'friend'.

Yes! You heard me right! He was always friend-zoned. Anyway, if the hero was the heroine's shield then Dark was the heroine's sword. He would kill anyone who came in the heroine's way towards her dreams. He was the character who also betrayed Evan for the heroine, he left poor Evan for the heroin and as of that, Evan lost his strongest man.

Maybe it would be useless for me to tell you his story from the middle let me start again. I know we are wasting time on his story but you wouldn't know this but he is a very important character in the story more important than Evan. If Evan was not labelled as the 'supporting male lead' then Dark would have definitely been the supporting male lead.

He was born to a prostitute in the Red District, yes this exists in this world, his mother was famous for her beauty, she had the same features as him, white hair and green eyes. He was her exact copy. She was famous all over the empire, men came specially to her from far away. It was all good until Dark was born, he was hated by his mother since he only became an obstacle to her work.

She treated him horribly, beating him, starving him and many more. He took it all since she was his only family yet she still abandoned him. She left him when she finally found herself a permanent lover.

He roamed the streets as a homeless when the shadow guards found him to make him one like them. He was a natural, and talented in killing and in everything he did, many tried to curry favour with him yet his heart was unmoved and untouched until of course the heroine came. The reason he was named 'Dark' was because he radiated darkness and coldness from him.

He was used to being in the dark, used to seeing the evil in humans but he was surprised when he met the innocent courageous heroine who pulled him out of the dark towards the light and that's how the heroine became his living light.

Now again the reason I placed him next to me was to get him for myself and also to protect myself from being betrayed by him.

Haven't you heard? 'Keep your friends close but your enemies much closer to yourself'.

With that, I boarded an unattractive-looking old carriage to go to town. As I stepped into the carriage I noticed Dark not coming in.

"Are you not coming in?"

Dark stared at me with a contempt look, as he moved inside the carriage and sat on my opposite. I smiled as I spoke again, "You are my shadow guard, you are supposed to stay close! you understand?"

He glared at me before nodding at me as the carriage commenced towards the town away from the Royal Place. I closed my eyes just to rest for the time being as I ran over my plan. It would be amazing if the male lead could just be easily impressed by me!

I sighed at that impossible thought

I close my eyes and lean my head back till the time we reach. I could also feel the gaze of the person sitting in front of me. He was glaring at me like an angry bull. If I just had a red flag to myself, I am sure he would have run and thrown me in the air.
