As Cisco apologized, Tristan looked at him with a mixture of surprise and contrition. "No, I'm the one who's sorry," Tristan said, his voice filled with regret. "I should have been there for you. In less than twenty-four hours with Frudi, I got her hurt. I'm the one who's sorry."
But Cisco's expression didn't soften. Instead, his eyes flashed with anger, and he took a step closer to Tristan. "Can you stop apologizing?" Cisco growled, his voice low and menacing.
"...Your apologies make me furious. They make me think about all the bad things I've done, all the mistakes I've made. So please, just stop apologizing."
Tristan, still crouched down on the floor, continued to apologize, his words tumbling out in a rush. But Cisco's anger only seemed to grow. His voice dropped to a whisper, and he said, "If you don't shut up now, I will shut you up."
