Chapter 21: Unsolved Mystery

"So, did the camera capture the car's license plate number or any other details that we can use to identify the person?" the Chief asked Sergeant Choi as he prepared to show him the image.

"Yes sir, it captured the car, but it was unable to show the license plate number because the area where the car was located had no light due to a breakdown," Sergeant Choi explained.

"What should we make of this? Is it another coincidence?" Detective Kim asked with a smirk on his face, having heard everything from Sergeant Choi.

"Send it to Headquarters to be enhanced," Chief Lee instructed Sergeant Choi.

"We have already sent it to Headquarters, and they have already sent back the enhanced version of the image," Eun-Ho interjected upon hearing the Chief's words.

Both Chief Lee and Detective Kim looked at them expectantly.

"Then why did you show us this image instead of the enhanced one? You know we won't be able to get anything from this," Chief Lee said with clear frustration in his voice, directing his gaze at Eun-Ho and Sergeant Choi.

"Then who are you waiting for?" Chief shouted at them.

Sergeant Choi and Eun-Ho exchanged nervous glances, realizing their mistake. Eun-Ho quickly retrieved the enhanced image from his phone and handed it over to Chief Lee and Detective Kim.

"We apologize for the oversight, Chief. Here is the enhanced version," Eun-Ho said, trying to diffuse the tension in the room.

Chief Lee took a deep breath, keeping his frustration in check. He studied the enhanced image of the car, hoping that some crucial detail would stand out. Detective Kim, with a wry smile, couldn't resist adding, "Well, it seems like our luck isn't shining in the dark areas without light."

"Did you instruct the officers to look for every car that passed through the hospital junction area around this time and match every possible car detail and registered name to the name of the man we got from the application?" Chief asked them.

"Also, tell Headquarters to check the database for every person with the same name living in Seoul or the surrounding area of the warehouse," Chief added.

As Detective Kim was about to call Headquarters to relay the Chief's instructions, Chief stopped him and said, "You leave it, I am the one who will say it," remembering that his words would carry more urgency if he spoke directly.

When Chief began making the phone call, Detective Kim mentioned something about the person, saying, "Sir, why didn't you also ask them to trace the person's bank account from which he transferred the money for the patient?"

Upon hearing this, it was as if a light bulb went off in their minds, as they realized that with the bank account information, they would definitely be able to find out everything about this person.

"Now you all remember these things? Where were you before?" Chief said, looking at Detective Kim.

"Sir, we have all been under a lot of tension regarding Ji-Won's safety, so these important details slipped our minds. But now, as soon as we finish eating, we will extract information on all the people related to the name written in the document. This thought just occurred to me, and I wanted to inform you," Detective Kim explained.

Chief nodded and continued with his phone call.

While Chief was on the phone with Headquarters, receiving instructions on what they needed to do, the nurse who had left earlier returned and informed them, "Sir, the operation was successful."

Upon hearing this, everyone's spirits lifted, as they knew that everything would become clear once they saw the injured woman's face to determine if she was Ji-Won or not.

By hearing this, everyone regained their spirit because everything would come to light if they saw the face of the injured woman to know if she is Ji-Won or not.
