Things are getting odd now, which reminds me of a traditional Chinese legend.
This is an ancient Chinese folktale named The Legend of the White Snake, which tells a love story between a white snake, Bai Suzhen, a female monster who can change into human form, and a young man, Xu Xian. One plot of that romantic story described a similar situation at this moment:
During the Dragon Boat Festival, people commonly drink realgar wine, an alcoholic drink that was believed can help people stay away from demons. Xu Xian let Bai Suzhen unsuspectingly consume a cup of that realgar wine when they were having dinner and celebrating the festival together in the centre of a lake. Then a few minutes later, due to the reactions after drinking that wine, Bai Suzhen couldn't control her mana and shifted into her true form as a giant white snake. Xu Xian was thrilled by his wife's monster form and he was even scared to death.
