"Come again?" the old grandpa raised a brow skeptically at him. "You've seen it happen?"
Yunfeng nodded. "I've seen it happen. The war between the world. The first attack starts with President F attacking country C and then other countries join in. They start nuclear warfare that just amplifies the situation. President F then messes up and drops a new bomb that was currently in testing." He paused, gazing at them intently.
Both the seniors listened to his explanation intently.
"The Tera virus. It's a more advanced version of rabies. It affects the nervous system and makes them go rabid. The virus was airborne and our entire country fell victim to it."
"Wait," Jai's grandfather stopped him. "This all seems like a science fiction story. Is this why you bulk-bought so many food items? This is silly. What did we expect a kid to know," he subconsciously gazed at his son.
To his surprise, Jai's father had a serious look on his face.
"Shinju, what do you know?"
Jai's father, General Shinju, gritted his teeth. "We got intelligence reports last week that President F had a secret lab and was researching some ancient virus. Its code name is Tera." He gazed at Yunfeng. "Continue."
Yunfeng gulped. 'Fuck, so it was President F's private research that led to the doom of this world…'
He took a sip of the warm milk that was placed before him and continued, "The initial infection is not that apparent. People appear normal. But as the virus takes over the body, the victims' eyes turn bloodshot. Like mindless beasts, they will instantly start attacking anyone close to them, irrespective of their relations." He visibly froze up. All this information was part of his history to him. But now all of this was going to happen in real life.
'How am I going to protect my family… Will going to the outskirts really keep them safe? Fuck…' He massaged his brows.
"And?" the General gestured for him to continue.
"Anyone bitten or even scratched by these initially infected people will also get infected. But their strand of the virus will start to mutate each time it passes on from victim to victim."
"So you mean finding an antidote for this is impossible?"
Yunfeng sadly sighed. The people of the past had tried it, but the virus kept mutating too fast. They were not able to find a viable cure. Slowly, the human race started to disappear off the face of the Earth. Starvation prevailed.
But a brilliant scientist found a way to beat the virus.
The cure was soon spread among the survivors. But it did not do what it was proposed to do. Instead, it aggravated the virus so much that humankind started to mutate into Alpha, Beta, and Omega.
Alphas are the strongly mutated species. Their physical and mental strength evolved so much that a single person was able to destroy a building with his fist.
Betas are people who were immune to the virus. Their bodily functions retained those of a human. So in a world full of superhumans, these Betas were not treated very well. Being Beta for a long time, he had heard so many jeers and leers behind his back. Only his father's reputation kept him safe from those Alphas.
And lastly, Omegas. The defensively mutated kind. When the world was in shambles, the female population diminished fast. They were not physically strong enough to resist attacks from those virus-infected. This led to the deficit of females.
Somehow nature cured itself of this cause by creating Omegas. They were naturally mutated humans that can carry and give birth to humans.
Yunfeng sighed. Being an Omega himself, he knew his future was bleak. Omegas were the weakest of the bunch. They relied solely on their Alpha to protect them and to give them comfort. The Omegas he had seen were all soft and cute.
'I wonder why I'm an Omega. Tsk. I don't look cute anyway I look at myself.'
The General cleared his throat, pulling him out of his thoughts. "So how did you see this happening?"
"A dream? Yeah, a dream."
The middle-aged man sat up straight, looking at him peculiarly. "You believed a dream and wasted your money on food?" He scoffed. "Tell me the real truth. Who told you this? How do you know about the Tera virus? It's very confidential at this point."
Yunfeng blinked cutely. "I had a premonition. I've always been good at predicting this. Suddenly one night I fell into a dream. A long dream that took me through this world war. I saw many things." He lowered his head to hide his panic.
Even he didn't believe his lie.
"It's okay if you don't want to tell me." The middle-aged man stood up, adjusting his military coat. "I have something to do. Jai's upstairs; you can join him," saying so, the man nodded and left the room.
