The Upgrade

Silver went inside to see some soldiers gallantly standing at the entrance of his house. He was beginning to think something serious must have happened, because his father doesn't bring military men to his house, even though he was a commander. Silver went to the entrance, saluted to the soldiers who reciprocated it, and he went inside.

He found his father, and an old man discussing with a stern face and other soldiers standing beside them.

" Father. " Silver bowed and also greeted the old man.

" Such a cute son you have there. Just like his grandfather. " The old man grinned and noticed Silver halt on his track, while his father had a bit of an awkward face.

" Ahem... Silver, come and have a seat. '' Mr Fernando said softly.

" Where have you been? " he asked.

" I just went for a stroll. " Silver replied honestly and his father nodded.

" This is your grandfather. He's the major general in the Southern coast military region. He is getting aged obviously, and have come to ask for you to stay with him, so you can have quality time with your grandfather. He has also said to put you in any magic school of your choice, and he'll provide all you need artificially. " His father explained in one go, emphasizing the word 'artificially'.

Silver felt awkward and tried processing everything in his head. Wait... did his father just mention grandfather? I thought I never had one!

" Silver... sigh... This is Alejandro Fernando, My father, your grandfather. " He finally spoke in simpler words, making Silver's eyes wide in shock.

" Alejandro Fernando? Hell! Who haven't heard about the fearless General that singlehandedly defeated a heard of adult demon-horned sheep?! That man is my grandfather?! " Silver screamed not believing his ears.

" Sigh... Yes he is. " Mr Fernando said calmly. He knew this was hard for Silver to take in. But, right now, he could only accept him staying with his grandfather, as he had more authority than himself, and would be essential, if Silver really wanted to be a mage.

" Sigh... Why haven't I met him before? " Silver said trying to hold his emotions.

" I'm a very busy person, being a major general. I do lots of travelling, and all that. Even your father doesn't have the opportunity to see me always. " Mr Alejandro replied

" So why are you taking me if you will have little or no time for me? " Silver asked.

" Say... I'm an old man who might pass away anytime. I wouldn't want to go without seeing my first grandchild and son. " he shrugged.

" Silver. Get your things ready before dawn. You are leaving first thing in the morning. You may go to your room. " Mr Fernando said.

" Wait boy! " Mr Alejandro called.

" You need a safer place to store those valuables. I'll also teach you that when you come. " He smiled.

Silver was caught off guard, and for some reason, he wondered if the old man figured the system out. No no... maybe he had just perceived the Kryptonite crystal. Just how strong was his magic? Even his father couldn't perceive it!

Mr Fernando was caught off guard too, but just shrugged it off, thinking his father was referring to magic.

Silver went up to his room and lay flatly on his bed. Soonest, he remembered he had yet to complete his daily quest. He got up from his bed lazily and dressed in his exercise wear.

As expected, Hannah and his mom just got back and he welcomed them warmly with hug, while telling his mom he was out for a run.

His mom however was shocked as Silver wasn't the exercise lover type. She however shrugged off the thought and thought he wanted to clear off his head after the series of events. His father on the other hand was nowhere to be seen.

Silver started off with a jug, and finally started running. Soonest, he felt strain in his muscles, and sat on a nearby block. Just then, he heard a beep.

" Daily quest: Run 500 meters.

Ran: 150/500 meters

Reward: +2 agility points, +50 ESP. "

He sighed and looked at the reward again. It was already enough for him to level up one of his stats to level 2, meaning, he had to skip stats points. For example 10 agility points = +1 level. But 50 ESP = direct entry to level 2.

With determination in his mind, he continued running until he lost track of time. He would stop at intervals and take some glucose, which he took along with him, instead of water.

{ Author: Biology students should know why ;) }

After about 15 minutes, he finally completed the quest, and heard another beep.

" Daily quest: Run 500 meters Completed!

Reward: +2 agility points, +50 ESP.
