12 Wally's resolve + Oak's offer

Hey before the chapter starts I want to say something before someone else says it, according to a wiki Ash was 6 when he went to the Pokemon camp, but that doesn't make sense because he was also 6 when he missed the one where Goh and Chloe go to, so my thought process is that Ash just goes to the camp the next year making him 7, just figured I should say something before someone else dose.

(Ash POV)

Currently, Ash is sitting in the bus next to Gary, Green, and Yellow surprisingly, no one else seemed to want this year's camp, everyone else went home to visit their families before the next year starts. But he managed to convince Green to get out of her house, mainly by poking at the fact that she never goes outside but still. And Yellow seemed to want to come to meet all the Pokemon at the camp. And everyone else currently on the bus is kids from Pallet Town.

'I guess other people from other regions are either already there or going to be picked up later, I wonder what is actually going to happen during camp that makes Serena run into the forest, I guess I'll figure it out later. Might as well practice my Aura.'

As Ash finished his thoughts he looked out of the window to see they were nearly at Professor Oak's Pokemon camp. Looking at everyone on the bus, he could see that almost everyone had fallen asleep, Gary, Green, and Yellow included, and Oak was already at the camp.

(One hour later)

Finally getting out of the bus Ash stretches his legs and looks around, 'Well there are a lot of kids from different regions; some from Hoenn, Sinnoh, and Kalos.' looking around he sees one person he actually recognizes. A small blond girl with blue eyes, wearing a sunhat and a pink dress, this was Serena, obviously very nervous to be here.

Oak then steps up to where everyone can hear him and says, "Hello everyone! Welcome to my Pokemon summer camp, where you will all learn and meet different Pokemon that have been brought in by rangers and breeders."

As he finished talking most of the children around seemed very excited, well except one. (I'll give you three guesses and the first two don't count.)

'Welp I guess it's time for me to 'learn' about Pokemon'

(Meanwhile in Hoenn)

(Wally Pov)

In a house in Petalburg City, where 4 people live, three people were having a discussion, although it seemed more one-sided.

Wally came up to his aunt and uncle and begged them to let him study to become a Pokemon trainer.

"Wally no means no, your body can't handle it, we're only doing this for your own go-" but before his uncle could continue Wally cut him off and started to speak.

"Please uncle I really want to do this, I don't care if my illness makes me weak, and I don't care that I am –" but before he could finish his body caused him to start breathing heavier and a painful cough.

His aunt looked in horror as she tried to comfort him and said "See Wally you can't even speak for too long without breathing problems, your body can't handle it please listen to us." she explained trying to get him to see reason.

"I-I don't care, this is what I want. I want to be able to go out without having to be afraid that I may fall over with one wrong move. I want to be able to catch Pokemon, to be able to train and battle with them, so what if I'm sick, that has always been my dream!" Wally said with determination in his voice looking at both of them in the face.

Wally's uncle was the first to break sighing and saying, "Well I can say you have grown up, I don't know what they have been teaching you in school but I'm glad we let you go" looking at his wife he continued, "I think we should let him if it is what he really wants then who are we to stop him."

"What, but he is ill we can't let him go he'll never survive." she tried to protest.

"He is not a helpless Torchic anymore, he is smart and resourceful. I know he will be ok, besides he is learning under Professor Oak himself, and he will be ready when the time comes. It is his dream and we can't take that away from him." Wally's uncle responded.

Hearing this Wally's aunt hugged him and said, "Ok, if it is what you really want then I'll let you, the last thing I want is for you to run away hating us."

"Only one condition, if it is what you really want then go and come back with at least all 8 badges, I want you to come back satisfied with what you did." Wally's uncle said, looking at Wally with a smile on his face.

Wally with some tears starting to swell up in his eyes said, "Yes don't worry I will be sure to bring back the badges, and I will find my dream."

"Well ok, let's celebrate then when Wanda comes back from seeing her boyfriend let's tell her the news and go out to celebrate."

(Hours later)

"WHAT! Are you serious? Congratulations Wally, you always told me how much you wanted to do this and now they're finally going to let you." Said wally's cousin Wanda

Wanda looked very similar to Wally so similar you could confuse the two if you weren't paying attention.

"We need to go celebrate!" Wanda yelled out dragging Wally with her, as Wally's uncles shook their heads and followed.'

Wally smiled and thought, "Finally and it is all thanks to the advice Ash gave me, I need to thank him when school starts again."

(Back to Ash)

It has been a few weeks, camp is nearly over, and surprisingly Serena seemed calm enough to not run away, probably thanks to Dragonite and Oak keeping watch, 'at this rate I'll need to approach her before the camp ends.'

But as he finishes his thoughts he hears Oak call out, "Gary can I talk to you privately."

To which Gary responds, "Sure thing gramps." as he gets up and gets to Oak.

Oak tells Dragonite, "Take my spot old pall, I'll be back in a bit. You're in charge." as he walks off leaving Dragonite in his place.

"I wonder what that's about?" said Green who was talking to Yellow and Ash nearby. "What do you think happened?"

"I don't know, maybe he did something to make Professor Oak mad," said Yellow

"Or maybe he will try and show Gary the wonders of being a Pokemon professor," Ash said getting a small laugh out of Green, but Yellow didn't understand the joke.

So as they spend the next few minutes explaining the Joke, Ash notices something, a certain blonde is missing and nowhere to be seen. So he says "Hey I think a Pokemon left into the forest, I'll go after it, if I don't come back in 10 minutes or so tell Dragonite." and before the two girls could say anything Ash had run off.

Getting into the forest Ash looked around, 'I don't see either Serena or that Poliwag around, I guess this is as good a time as any to use Aura to sense them.'

As Ash closes his eyes he sends his Aura out to try and sense where Serena is, as he feels around he notes one figure that is afraid, and another figure quickly approaching the first.

"Well that might be her but there isn't a good way to determine if it is her. Well I guess I cou-"

As he was talking he was cut off by the scream of a small girl saying, "MOMMY!!!"

"Welp, that works" As he starts running towards the sound and gets through a bush he sees Serena with her leg injured and starting to cry a little.

"Hello, are you ok?" Ash said, trying to remember what the original Ash said.

"I-I hurt my leg," Serena said with tears in her eyes.

'I guess this is as good a time as any to try that' As Ash pulls out a handkerchief he says, "Don't worry I can help you make it all better." As he starts tying the handkerchief he starts trying Aura healing, and it started working but it left him a bit drained, 'I guess I'm still not good enough

As he finishes up Serena looks surprised and says, "It feels a little bit better, but it still hurts a little." As she struggles to try to get up.

"Don't worry it will heal soon, now let's go back to camp before Dragonite notices we are gone," Ash says while helping Serena stand up and help her walk back.

"Now that I think about it I don't know your name, I'm Ash what's your name" Serena responds in a quiet voice "I'm Serena".

As they get back to camp Serena is about to say something before Dragonite comes in from behind and gives them both a hug, seemingly having been worried about them. And behind he can see both Green and Yellow standing behind Dragonite.

"Dragonite!"

Ash looks at both of them in betrayal, then looks at Dragonite and says "Hey Dragonite, where ok can you put us down, please."

Dragonite obliges and gently puts them down, then it seems like Serena wants to say something to Ash, "U-um hey-" but she was cut off by Oak.

"Ash, can I talk to you about something?" as he said that Gary was walking back, looking more confused than anything else.

"Alright." Said Ash then looking at everyone else he said, "I guess we can continue this later." As he walked over to talk to Oak, passing Gary who gave him a blank stare.

Getting inside, Oak started to talk, "Ash, There is a program my cousin wants to do where I send a student to Alola and he sends one here to Kanto. I wanted to ask if you were interested in being the chosen student to go."

Ash was taken aback by this, "I assume that is why you called Gary over, and he said no."

Oak smiled a bit sadly, "Yes it would have been easier to send him to my cousin, but he refused, so after him, you are the best option."

Ash thought for a moment and then spoke, "Fine I am willing to go but I do need to talk to my mom beforehand."

Oak smiled and responded, "Yes, we can do that now, you can think of it as a vacation, I'm sure she'll agree."

As Oak walked to the computer Ash sighed, 'Not what I thought would happen I may as well see what the professor that studies Pokemon moves can teach me.'

As soon as the plans were set, the camp soon came to an end.

Love Wally, he is probably my favorite rival and he is relatable.

Welp now that Wally got some time to shine here are some facts about Wally

- His cousin Wanda is a real character in the games and manga, I forgot about her completely

- it was pretty much confirmed that Wally's illness was either acute bronchitis or asthma, he only had breathing problems, I thought he had cancer as a kid.

- There is a theory that in the final battle before the elite 4 Wally dies after he loses, hinted by the flowers being similar to the flowers meaning death and the soundtrack.

- I believe that the theory is that the old shy and timid sick boy is gone and was replaced by this now more confident Wally.

- In the manga, Wally had a whole different team, he never even had a Ralts in the manga, his first Pokemon was a Kecleon and he was lent Ruby's Ralts

- it is implied that he carved his mega pendant out of wood himself in ORAS, it is even in the shape of his Gallade.

- in the manga he has an entire respirator suit with some gauntlets, and over the story he just stops needing it.

- In the manga, Wally awakens Rayquaza without the green orb.
