A Whirlpool of Emotions!
"This is it...Squirtle against Oshawott. Who's the stronger water type?" Raven asked as he watched.
Squirtle and Oshawott stared at each other, neither one making a single move. Oshawott awaited my commands as did Squirtle.
"Alright Oshawott! Aqua Jet!" I commanded.
"Squirtle use Protect!" Surge called out.
Oshawott let out a battle cry then stomped down, surrounding himself in powerful water like energy then propelled himself toward Squirtle at high speeds. Squirtle glared and summoned a barrier around himself, blocking Oshawott's attack. Oshawott kicked off the barrier and went airborne.
"Oshie is in the air! He can't dodge!" Winter said in shock as she watched.
"Now! Water Pulse!" Surge roared.
"Osha! Use Razor Shell to block the attack!" I yelled.
Squirtle let down his barrier and formed a blue sphere of energy then fired it at Oshawott, who was in the air. Oshawott grabbed his shell and a light blue energy blade formed on the shell then he slashed. The energy blade collided with the Water Pulse then an explosion happened. Oshawott came out of the smoke with a spinning slash and cried out. Squirtle looked surprised and cried out as he was hit then the energy around Oshawott's scalchop caused an explosion.
Oshawott and Squirtle both slid backwards and stumbled.
"Brick Break!" Surge bellowed.
"Keep using Razor Shell!" I bellowed.
Squirtle and Oshawott dashed toward each other and let out battle cries. Oshawott dodged the first karate chop then slashed at Squirtle, hitting him. Squirtle groaned and slid backwards then hid inside of his shell then used Rapid Spin to propel himself toward Oshawott. Oshawott slashed down and tried to block the attack. Oshawott grunted then groaned as Squirtle broke through his defenses and struck him, blowing him away.
"Aura Sphere!" Surge bellowed.
Squirtle formed a blue sphere of aura in his hands then fired it at Oshawott.
"Water Pulse!" I yelled.
Oshawott landed on the ground and formed a light blue sphere of water in his hand then pressed it against the aura sphere. An explosion happened and powerful winds blew around the stadium. I grunted and covered my face from the winds. Victini held onto me tightly but ended up flying off and let out a cry. I looked back and caught Victini's hand and noticed my hat flying off my head. I looked ahead to see Oshawott flying past me and crashing into the wall, nearly going through it. The crowd was in shock as they watched and waited for the smoke to clear.
The smoke finally cleared and Jacob looked at the scene. Oshawott was on the ground and Squirtle was still standing.
"It's over. Even I wasn't able to beat him first try." Hideo said.
"Oshawott had already sustained a good amount of damage...The outcome was inevitable." Raven said as he watched.
"Oshawott is-" Jacob started then stopped once he heard Oshawott getting up.
Surge watched Oshawott and chuckled then laughed. "This is great! The resilience Oshawott is showing! This is incredible!"
Squirtle had healed most of the damage he took due to his Rain Dish ability and he watched Oshawott, surprised that he stood back up. Victini watched Oshawott and looked worried.
"He stood up..?" Raven asked surprised.
Oshawott grunted and his eyes shined brightly. He looked at Squirtle determinedly. Squirtle looked back at Oshawott then prepared himself for whatever Oshawott was planning.
I looked at Oshawott and thought back to our training session.
-Flashback-
"Wow! Your Oshawott is already pretty strong! I can sense his potential to evolve soon. He just has to awaken that power." Master Fornus said and smiled.
"Surge's pokemon are extremely powerful. We can't stop until that true potential is realized. If Surge is already this strong to overwhelm his opponents, imagine the other leaders. Me, Victini, and Petilil won't quit until we know we can win!" I said.
Master Fornus looked at us and smiled. He crossed his arms and looked at his Hitmonchan. "Alright. Let's go again!"
-End of Flashback-
"Your potential is realized. Osha, let's bring forth the power you hold!" I yelled and my voice echoed.
Oshawott bellowed and water like aura surged powerfully around his body. The crowd watched in awe and felt the power flowing from Oshawott. Oshawott's body began glowing brightly. He began to slowly change form and surprised the audience. Oshawott finished his process and the white light shattered and revealed a Dewott.
"Osha.." I said and smiled brightly.
"Oshawott evolved?!" Hideo said in shock.
"From sheer determination to win and the bond between him and Atlas...Oshawott managed to evolve." Raven said.
"Oshie...Oshie! Atlas! Let's go!" Winter cheered loudly. Fennekin cheered as well then the two heard the a few other people in the crowd chanting.
"Listen to this crowd. It's been a while since I've had a lively crowd like this." Surge said then took off his jacket then tossed it aside. Squirtle bellowed and began to evolve as well. Squirtle managed to evolve into Wartortle. Surge laughed and stomped his foot down then looked at me and Dewott. "The real battle...starts now!"
"Osha...well I can't call you that anymore. I'll name you...Ronin." I said then Dewott nodded and walked forward. My phone buzzed and I took it out of my pocket and looked at it.
[Dewott is trying to learn Detect, Night Slash, and Sacred Sword!]
"Alright...Ronin! Let's do this! Try out Night Slash!" I commanded.
Dewott grabbed one of his shells then lunged toward Wartortle at high speeds. A purple energy blade formed around Dewott's shell.
"Brick Break!" Surge bellowed.
Wartortle's hands glowed a light blue and he lunged toward Dewott. Dewott parried a few chops then kneed Wartortle's stomach then slashed at him, striking Wartortle powerfully. After the first slice, Dewott rapidly sliced Wartortle with rapid succession then sliced upward, knocking Wartortle into the air.
"Wartortle! Use Aura Sphere and Water Pulse!" Surge bellowed. "Let's show them our Aura Pulse!"
"A combination move?!" Winter said in shock.
"Surge hasn't gotten this serious in a long time!" Jacob said as he watched in awe.
Wartortle bellowed then formed a sphere of aura in one hand and a blue sphere of water energy in the other then fused the two together into one massive sphere of dark blue energy. He then fired it at Dewott.
"Dewott!" I bellowed.
Dewott bellowed and grabbed his other shell and used Razor Shell. He used Aqua Jet to propel himself toward Wartortle at high speeds. The Aura Pulse chased Dewott and he noticed.
"Detect!" I commanded.
Dewott's eyes shined a bright blue and he dodged the Aura Pulse last second, causing it to hit Wartortle and explode.
"Let's end this! Strike down Wartortle!" I commanded.
Wartortle dashed out of the smoke cloud and ran toward Dewott while Dewott dashed toward Wartortle. Dewott dodged every strike Wartortle tried to land then sliced with Night Slash, landing a critical hit then slashed with Razor Shell, landing another critical hit then began to rapidly slash and hit Wartortle then bellowed and slashed in an X motion, blowing him away. Wartortle groaned and slammed into the wall.
Dewott panted then slowly fell onto one knee. He slowly stood back up after resting a bit then the energy blades around his shell dispersed into energy particles.
Jacob looked at Wartortle then raised his left arm. "Wartortle is unable to battle! Dewott is the winner and the winner of this battle is the challenger, Atlas!"
The crowd roared with excitement. Winter stood up and hopped up and down with excitement and happiness along with Fennekin. Raven and Lilith were impressed and Hideo closed his eyes and walked off.
Surge picked up his jacket then put it back on. He recalled Wartortle back in his pokeball then walked towards the middle of the battlefield. I grabbed my hat from Victini and put it on then smiled and walked to the middle of the battlefield with Dewott.
"That...was an amazing battle. I couldn't have asked for a more exhilarating battle." Surge smiled then held his hand out.
"I agree that the battle was very fun. Next time, I want to battle against your real team." I said and shook his hand.
"I'm sure Blastoise would be pleased to know you want to battle against him as he is my TRUE Ace." Surge smirked then let go of my hand as I did with his. "As for beating me, I'll reward you with the Oceanic Badge and a TM for Rain Dance. With this move, your Dewott can also make his Water Type moves stronger."
I accepted his badge and the TM. I pulled my badge case out of my bag then placed the badge in the case. "Thank you, Captain Surge."
He nodded and walked off. "I'll be seeing you around, Atlas."
I nodded and watched him. With that, I left the gym and noticed Winter and the others waiting for me outside.
"Atlas! Congratulations! That was an AWESOME battle! I've never been on the edge of my seat like that before! And Oshie, I mean Ronin evolved into Dewott! He was so awesome with his slashes and combos!" Winter said excitedly.
Dewott crossed his arms in a confident manner and smiled. His tail wagged as he happily accepted Winter's compliments. He looked down at Fennekin as she also congratulated us.
"It seems you aren't a weakling. I look forward to battling you someday." Lilith said.
"As do I. You've actually motivated us into becoming stronger. One day we'll be battling each other and I know it'll be a fun one." Raven said.
I nodded and smiled. "I'll be looking forward to it."
"Hey, loser!" Hideo said as he walked up to us with his Treecko.
I looked back and saw Hideo. "Still calling me loser? You get one win against me and think we are the same. The score's even...Hideo."
"Hideo. The same guy using Team Myth's power." Raven glared.
"A weakling who relies on more weaklings for power. Me and Ruina will crush you!" Lilith bellowed and her eyes shined.
I held my arm out and looked back at Lilith. "How he gains power is of no importance. This...is interesting though. At least we'll get to learn more about this...Tera Power."
Hideo smirked and crossed his arms. "I've heard about your little run in with Team Myth. I ran into one of their little peasants and beat them with no effort. Crushed them like the ants they are and they even gave me a Tera Orb out of fear. I'll use their power against them...and grow strong enough to defeat and catch the Legendaries they are after. This...this is my Mythic Power."
I looked at Hideo and lowered my arm. I noticed he was looking at Victini.
"A weak pokemon. It's supposed to be a Mythical as well..? Can't even defeat a Squirtle. What a disgrace." Hideo said.
"Victory may not have their original powers now...but soon you'll see them at their best in the future. Insult them all you want, in the end...I'll have the last laugh." I said.
Hideo scoffed and walked ahead. "Whatever you say. Smell you later."
"My Arceus, he's such a jerk." Winter said and rolled her eyes.
"Well, I guess we should be heading home and packing. We're planning to head to New Locasa City. You should come with us on the S.S. Azur. It's an all expenses paid trip for Gym Challengers and companions." Raven said.
I nodded. "We'll be there."
"Good. We'll see you back here in a few days." Raven said then walked off. Lilith followed him.
"Well shall we head back to the hotel?" Winter asked.
"Yeah." I nodded.
With that, Winter and I headed to the hotel to go back to our hotel room. With one badge out the way there were only seven more before I could challenge the Kaeton Pokemon League. Dewott, Victini, and I were stoked to challenge the next gym and earn our second gym badge.
