'Name: Mars

Species: Ursaring -> Ursasol*

Gender: Male

Age: 12+ years'

Well, it seems that I had either hit the jackpot when I decided to tentatively call the alternate evolution Ursasol. It was possible for there to be an Ursaring or two out there somewhere that already went through this evolution. It was a really big world after all, so the possibility existed and was actually not that far-fetched.

Well, that, or Mars was actually the first one of his kind and the universe decided to reward me by adopting the name I chose. In that case, Mars should have the Mutant modifier, which would be so overpowered since it would give him a 100% bonus.

Still, I somehow doubted that was the case since I believed a modifier like that would have caused a much, much bigger ruckus than the light show Mars' evolution had generated. A super quick glimpse at his empty modifier section confirmed my assumption, so I guess I ended up choosing the same name that the actual species had.

Considering the evolution triggers, it was an on-the-nose kind of name anyway, so I just wrote it off as being lucky and moved on. Well, setting the possibility of them being out there aside, this was the first time I saw a Ursasol, so I knew practically nothing about the species, like how it stacked against Ursaring or Ursaluna base stat wise for example.

Due to that, I made use of the detail function by focusing on the species while thinking about the racial value or base stat in canon terms, and it certainly did not disappoint. The result came out as 570 RV/BS, which was pretty good.

I knew that Ursaring had 500 RV, and if I did not remember it wrongly, Ursaluna had 550 RV, so Ursasol was a slightly superior evolution compared to Ursaluna. Kinda fitting seeing how the sun was a bit more important than the moon, or how the requirements for Ursasol's evolution were harder to meet than the ones for Ursaluna. Honestly, the last one made more sense than the first one.

Anyway, checking the detailed Base Stat Sheet, I saw that the stat sheet of Ursasol was practically an all-around superior version of Ursaring's stat sheet. Ursaluna had a higher vitality and endurance, but Ursasol's vitality and endurance stat were pretty good as well. Their strength was identical, while the other three stats were a clear and absolute win for Ursasol.

I definitely preferred this one over Ursaluna, but Ursasol had 20 more points available so that was not surprising. I shared the good news with Mars, who was happy to hear that his new species was better than the one he had declined.

Anyway, after seeing visible proof that my decision to go for an alternate evolution was a good one, I moved on to the next part of the status screen.

'Type: Fire*, Normal

Potential: Light Purple (9.96%)*

{Deep Blue (74.14%) -> (89.73%) -> Light Purple (9.96%)}

(Genetic) Modifier: None

Abilities: Guts, Desolate Land*

Talents: None

Affinities: Normal, Fire*

-

Bond: Mikail (strong)

Quirks: Likes Close Combat'

I had already caught a glimpse of it while taking a peek at the modifier section, but I had not been surprised to see the additional fire typing. I had expected that to happen after all, and seeing the fire-type energy being funneled toward Mars during his evolution had only strengthened that assumption, which had now been proven right.

Looking at the potential displayed below the type, I was happy to see that light purple potential was listed there. Seeing the percentage displayed after light purple, I could not say that I was surprised by the fact that the total increase during the evolution had barely surpassed 20%. I had in fact expected that to happen.

During the last 2 or so years Mars' potential had increased by about 15%, and the supplement I used during the many failed evolution attempts definitely played a role in that. It was also why the bonus during the actual evolution was limited to around 20%.

The effect of the supplements had been somewhat reduced due to overuse. Still, all things considered, 20% was not bad, so I let it be and shared the good news with everyone, triggering another round of congratulations from them.

I focused back on the screen, and directly skipped the empty modifier part, but what I saw in the ability section made me double-take. I had trouble believing my eyes. A second look confirmed that I was not imagining things and that Desolate Land was really listed as Mars' second ability.

After the harsh sunlight affair, I thought Mars probably had Drought, but the guy went and pulled out the one ability I knew only Primal Groudon had in canon. I mean I knew that Ursasol had the whole sun theme going, but wow. Just wow.

Mars somehow had Desolate Land. Huh, who would have thought? That actually meant water moves did not work as long as his ability was active, which was pretty great considering that his new fire typing had definitely given him a minor water weakness.

Also, thank Mew Mars could control his ability, or he would have become a walking environmental hazard. Speaking of that, we would have to test how large the area his ability could affect was. I mean, Primal Groudon was said to affect the whole planet, but Groudon was a deity, so that did not really count or work as a reference.

Nonetheless, I could not suppress the mega-watt smile that made it onto my face, not that I tried hard to do so, and everyone looked over to me when I began to laugh happily. Seeing their looks, I told them what caused my good mood. The others released exclamation of awe when they heard the kind of ability Mars had gotten. Meanwhile, Mars began to laugh cheerily as well.

Anyway, I resumed looking through his status screen, while the others began bugging Mars to show off Desolate Land. I saw them test the water-nullifying effect and heard the shouts of awe when the moves really failed to manifest before I focused on the affinity part, which was the last stretch of that section. I was not surprised that an additional fire affinity was listed since Mars now had a fire typing.

The first half of the next section was pretty much unchanged as well since his evolution did not affect his stage or parameters. Still, it was always nice to see all those SSS values. However, unlike the parameter section, Mars' type relation section had gone through a rather radical change.

'Parameters:

Stage: Silver Stage (high)

-

Weaknesses: Water (Minor)*, Ground (Minor)*, Rock (Minor)*

-

The Immunity subsection had a conditional addition with the water type, that only counted whenever Desolate Land was active, so the ghost type remained his only proper immunity.

The next bit was the really impressive part. Mars ended up gaining 6 new resistances, all at minor grade, thanks to his new fire type. Sadly, the fire type also came with 3 new minor weaknesses, but that was a great trade in my opinion. Especially when we could count the water type as half a weakness since it got negated whenever Mars activated Desolate Land.

Furthermore, Mars had been on the cusp of standardizing his Fighting-type weakness for some time now, and apparently, the evolution was enough to push him past the edge. He was really, really happy to hear that one, and he laughed happily when I shared the news with him.

The others ribbed him on how he had probably used up all his luck during his evolution, seeing how one boon after the other was being brought up. Mars just laughed once more before grabbing Togepi and placing her on top of his head.

I saw Togepi happily waving at the other midgets from up there and had to chuckle seeing her enjoy the elevated position. I also heard Mars saying that he and they would be fine as long as we had lucky stars like her in our family.

I also had to chuckle a bit when I saw sunny among Mars' conditions. It seemed even the status screen knew how to joke. Shaking my head a bit I moved on to the masteries section.

The addition of Fire Energy Manipulation was no surprise seeing how he had gained the typing, and I was pretty sure that the reason it started out at beginner mastery instead of novice mastery was purely due to his advanced Fire Punch mastery. It was his only fire-type move after all.

However, looking a bit further down to the move section gave me a rather big surprise.

I actually saw that his evolution had caused Mars to learn two new moves. Solar Ring and Solar Flare were moves I had never heard of before, so I was assuming they were probably signature moves of the Ursasol species.

I quickly checked their description to see what the moves were like. It seemed Solar Ring was a defense-oriented move with slight damage-dealing capabilities. The move released fire rings from the big sun on his belly that circled him for some time.

Anyone that came into contact with the fire got burned and dealt some damage. It actually reminded me a bit of Fire Spin, it was just that Solar Ring had a guaranteed burning chance, and was revolving/circling around Mars. The fire was also an orange-tinted red, so that looked kinda cool.

Solar Flare on the other hand was a purely offensive move, and what a move it was. From what I was reading, it could be considered a slightly stronger fire-version of Hyper Beam, that got released from the sun on Ursasol's belly.

The flame was the same color as that of Solar Ring, and the release of the move was kind of like a middle ground between Hyper Beam and Solar Beam. It needed a bit of preparation time before the release and a bit of rest after the release, but both periods were shorter than those needed for Hyper Beam or Solar Beam.

I obviously had Mars demonstrate both moves to all of us and everyone was impressed with them, especially Solar Flare, which was a great name by the way, and pretty fitting too, seeing how a Solar Flare was one of the evolution conditions for Ursasol.

After that demonstration, I gave him some snacks to make sure that he was in peak condition, and the others got some as well since it would have been unfair otherwise. As soon as he was in peak condition, I had the others give him some space so that he could directly break through to the gold stage.

Mars did just that, and his breakthrough went super smoothly. Once the breakthrough was done, I went back up to him and congratulated him on reaching the gold stage. The others rushed back up as well and did the same. I naturally took another look at his status screen to see how he had been affected by his breakthrough, and if anything extra had been unlocked.

Seeing his purple potential was pretty nice, especially since it was nearly 70% of the way to deep purple. I also saw that he did not unlock anything else, but I did not mind after the great things he got during his evolution.

Looking at his parameters, I saw that Mars was directly starting at the (mid) gold stage, and seeing the state of his parameters I knew that he only had to raise his agility to D-value, along with raising one of the others to C-value before he would be able to reach the (high) gold stage. I told him as much and he looked rather determined to reach that point quickly.
