153 CH22 (152), First Class With The Third Years

The Math class just finished and I was on my way to my first aura-centric class with the third-year students. I had an "Internal Aura Manipulation" double lesson, so I made my way to the aura studies building.

I followed the directions I had received until I arrived in from of the door. Briefly looking at my watch told me I had 5 min until the lesson started, so I was right on time. I opened the door and walked towards the teacher who had looked over as soon as I entered.

"You must be Mikail. You can call me Ms. Yu." She greeted me before pointing to the right side of the first row.

"You see that empty desk over there?" She asked, so I looked where she was pointing and saw the empty seat she mentioned, which made me nod at her question.

"That's your seat. You can settle down there in a moment and I'll introduce you to the class at the beginning of the lesson. However, before that, I have to talk about the 3 months of lessons that you have missed.

Those covered the basic instructions on moving one's internal aura, along with guidelines, tips, and warnings. It would be good if you could get the necessary notes from your classmates, but if you are unable to do so I'll see if I can't put something together for you.

Two classmates whose notes I would recommend would be Weiss and Ace. Alright, go ahead and sit down. Everyone is present now, so we'll start right away once the bell rings." She said and I went towards my assigned seat.

While walking to my seat, I took a look around all seats to get a look at my new classmates, at least for all third-year subjects. Except for me, there were 21 other students and of those 10 already went through their early maturity.

So, there were 10 that looked 16/17-year-old and 11 that still looked 11-year-old. Still, I was sure those 11 would have their early maturity as well scattered throughout the year.

Anyway, I sat down at my new desk and pulled out my book and exercise book, as well as my pencil case. Right on time as well, because the bell rang as soon as I had everything on my desk.

"As you have no doubt noticed we have a newcomer. I'm sure some of you are curious and would like to know more about him, but you'll have to find that out outside of class. All you have to know for now is that his name is Mikail Geo and that he is going to join you in all aura-centric subjects." She told the class at the beginning of the lesson.

"Weiss, Ace it would be nice if one of you could show him your notes so that he can see what he has missed. That would be great," she added before she dove straight to her lesson.

"Until now we have gone over how to move your aura. Which path was the most efficient, which was the fastest, which was the steadiest? We mentioned some things that could be done through internal aura manipulation and we went over some ways to improve one's strength as well as speed using aura.

Today's lesson is on the ways to use internal aura manipulation on the eyes. Now, before I start I want to warn you, that you absolutely shouldn't try to use any of the things mentioned today unsupervised.

Some of you did not take my warning seriously when I gave it before talking about boosting strength or speed, and nearly all of those that tried ruptured some of their muscles or cracked a few of their bones.

You learned the hard way that you should have waited with self-experiments until you got the hang of it under my supervision. This time around the repercussions for disobeying me could turn out way worse.

You are only allowed to try boosting your eyes under the supervision of a Tier-4 Aura User, or a really experienced Tier 3 First-class Aura User. Once it is time for us to try it in practice, the academy is going to send over a Tier-4 Aura User to supervise you.

I repeat, do not try it on your own, or it could result in disastrous permanent damage to yourself. Is that clear?" Ms. Yu warned us in a no-nonsense tone.

A few hands shot in the air once she was done delivering her warning.

"Yes, Weiss, what's your question." Ms. Yu chose a 16-year-old looking girl with white hair, light blue eyes, and a pale white complexion.

'So that's Weiss, she looks familiar somehow. Still, it's good to know who I have to ask for their notes later on.' I thought to myself.

"Ms. Yu, could you tell us what those possible negative repercussions are?" Weiss asked and most of the others that had raised their hands nodded when they heard the question, showing that they had most likely wanted to ask the same question.

"Well, in the best case only cause a bit of bleeding, temporary blindness, or a slight worsening of your sight. In more serious cases you might turn nearly blind or completely blind, while the worst case would be the exploding/popping of the eyeballs." Ms. Yu answered in a tone that showed she was 100% serious.

When she talked about boosting strength as well as/or speed and mentioned the things that happened to many of those that tried it without supervision I was internally scoffing a bit.

I had managed to do that and more on my own without experiencing any real problems. Also, some muscle ruptures or cracked bones were not that hard to heal with the stuff that was available to me so I could have dealt with them even if it had happened while I was learning that stuff on my own.

That only happened to me when I began experimenting with different ways to boost my strength as well as speed and when I tried to boost multiple aspects as one.

I had also already learned some eye boosting techniques, like boosting range or "zooming" to some extent, so when she mentioned the best case repercussions I was like that's not too bad. That's what my exercises had as warnings as well.

When she said blindness I got a bit worried and when she mentioned exploding eyeballs cold sweat ran down my back. That could have happened to me as well if I had been unlucky.

Just because I know how to do stuff, did not mean I could do that stuff right off the bat. I knew that for sure since I still had to practice stuff to get it right, so I could have definitely f*cked up.

The technique I used had the temporary blindness warning as the worst thing that could happen and even that only happened to me once. If I had decided to try any self-experiments with different techniques and paths for my aura, I could have really exploded my eyes.

So I was extremely grateful that I had not done anything like that. This reaffirmed my decision to read instructions carefully and to strictly adhere to them.

I was absolutely going to leave any experiments to after I was really proficient in something. Just like I had done with my physical boost. Furthermore, the academy was nice enough to provide Tier 4 experts to supervise us, so it would be disrespectful of me not to make use of them.

I would test some of my ideas while they were present so that they could intervene in case I f*cked up. Anyway, while I was thanking all deities that I had always been careful while training Weiss thanked Ms. Yu for answering her question, and the others had no further questions.

"Well, I'll only add that the no doubt serious injuries won't be your only problem if you try it on your own, but you'll get in trouble with the academy as well.

Anyway, open your books on page 58 and write "1641" into the box in the upper right corner using the special pen the school gave you. That should make the content of the chapter visible. Repeat the same for the pages 59 to 68." She told us and had that not been a surprise when I learned about it the first time.

Apparently, the Academy had put "runic" locks on their books to prevent students from reading the content they deemed too advanced for them. Stuff that could result in them injuring themselves was written with ink that stayed invisible unless provided with a certain energy frequency.

They also added a "key" to each topic that had to be entered to allow the energy to flow. Each page had 4 slim boxes at each corner, and only one was the correct one. They also told us how each number had to be written.

Moreover, one had to use the ink of the pens the Academy gave out to write the "key" since only those had the right energy frequency to turn the text visible. Each "key" entry provided enough energy to keep the text visible for 2 weeks.

After that, the "key" would vanish and one would have to write down the number once more. These guys practically turned their school books into secret books. It seemed just like me, the academy also followed the "Constant Vigilance" creed.

I mean, instead of doing something so unnecessarily complicated they could have just let curious and sometimes reckless young people read through the books however they wanted. 'Pfft'

Anyway, I wrote the number Ms. Yu gave us into the places she told us to and the whole chapter became visible. I saw Ms. Yu looking around the class and nodding.

"Good. Now that everyone is ready let's begin. There are different kinds of effects, one can achieve while using aura on the eyes. Some of these effects are to increase the distance one can see, or to "zoom" in on details.

It is also possible to improve one's time/speed perception as well as gain the ability to see in different spectrums like dark, night, infrared, and more. There are more effects but that's not important for now.

The one we are going to be focusing on is the ability to increase the range of our vision." Ms. Yu announced before she began talking about the different margins of increase depending on different aura movement patterns.

She talked about the phases of acclimatization and the amounts of aura one should use for each stage before she went into detail on the very first pattern we were supposed to learn, which increased the distance we could see by a factor of 1.5.

It was also the one I had learned as my first one so I had to approve of the academy's approach. The technique required one to steadily send a small constant stream of aura through both optical nerves to the eyeball, while moving them in a certain way that practically drew "-{}-" this pattern into the middle of the pupil, just fully connected.

She really went into detail on how to do each part of the pattern, how much aura to use, how long one could do so, and all the little things one would normally find too bothersome to explain.

I naturally took notes not just because that was what was expected of us, but also because I had not bothered about some of the things she mentioned and wanted to see if they would help me improve my range even more than I currently had.

As for my current maximum distance, it was 2.8 times, which was pretty good. Anyway, after the double lesson was over I walked up to Weiss to ask her if I could have a copy of her notes like Ms. Yu had recommended.

"Excuse me, Weiss. Could I ask you something?" I addressed her and she smiled at my question.

"Well, you just did, but yes, you can. How can I help you?" She replied and I was surprised at the "lame" joke she pulled, I thought that was something reserved for "older" people.

Nonetheless, I went on with my query.

"As you have no doubt caught I'm Mikail and Ms. Yu advised me that you were my best bet for a good copy of the stuff that got covered in the last 3 months. Could I copy your notes, please?" I asked her and she smiled a bit proudly when I told her of Ms. Yu's "praise".

"Hmm, you don't have to copy it by hand. I'll make a copy of my notes at home and give that to you in the next lesson we have together. I'll do that for the other classes as well since the teachers of those will no doubt tell you the same." Was her response and I genuinely thanked her for her help.

I offered to pay for the paper and ink since I was sure that it would take quite a bit of those to print everything but she declined. So, after thanking her once more and seeing that no one seemed to plan on approaching me for now, I left for my home since this had been the last lesson for today.
