Chapter 6 – Ash Has Arrived At Last!

After Professor Oak had given them their Pokedex, Gary, Leaf and Nathan went to the lower floor while Shu stayed there. Oak then took out a Pokeball and presented it to Shu as he took it. He showed the Pokeball to Nidoran to which he made his sound happily.

"This is your Pokeball, after you capture Nidoran he will be registered as your first Pokemon." Professor Oak said to him with a smile.

"Thanks Professor Oak. Here buddy how about it? Want to be my Pokemon?" Shu asked with a smile already knowing his answer.

"Nido!" Nidoran said happily as he tapped the Pokeball.

He was then enveloped in red light as he got sucked into the Pokeball as Shu felt some weight in the Pokeball. The Pokeball ticked and then clicking sound was heard signifying that he has been captured.

"Glad to have you buddy." Shu said with a smile as he grinned.

"And now Nidoran is officially yours." Professor Oak said with a smile.

"Yeah, come out Nidoran." Shu said as he called him out.

The Pokeball opened and Nidoran appeared in front of the two as Nidoran let out it's signature cry. He then leapt on his trainer as Shu grabbed him with a smile.

"Welcome to the team buddy." Shu said with an affectionate smile while Nidoran nuzzled his head on his chest.

"I'm very happy about this. Though, now that I think about it, Ash still hasn't come here yet." Professor Oak said in remembrance.

'Right, he is late. Just like in the original.' Shu thought to himself.

"I'm sure he'll come here. He was way too eager to not come here." Shu said with a smile.

"I'm sure he is. Why don't you go down and meet with the rest of the kids? You all are starting your journeys on the same day." Professor Oak said to him.

"Right. Thanks Professor." Shu said before he went to the lower floor with Nidoran.

When he reached there however he only saw Leaf and Gary while Nathan was nowhere to be seen. Shu looked around and didn't find him.

"Where's Nathan?" Shu asked them as he walked to them.

"Oh, he left right after coming down." Leaf said to him.

"Well, he did seem like the emo type. I don't particularly care, I have to start on my journey." Gary said nonchalantly.

'Classic Gary.' Shu thought to himself.

"And what about you?" Shu asked Leaf.

"I'm also about to go now. Now that I finally have my own Pokemon I want to get to Viridian City as soon as I can." Leaf said with a bright smile.

"Oh, well that's a good plan then." Shu said to her.

"What about you?" Leaf asked him.

"I'm waiting for my friend. It looks like he is late." Shu said to her dryly.

"Oh, well then. I hope you have a safe trip then. I want to reach Viridian before it gets dark so the sooner I go the better." Leaf said to him as she hefted her bag.

"I hope you have a safe trip as well and good luck." Shu said to her as Nidoran let out his cry.

"Thanks Shu. I hope we meet again and also, tell your friend to not be late for such an important day." Leaf said before she exited the house leaving the two boys alone.

"Well, we finally did it." Shu said to Gary.

"Yep, though I was pretty sure that both of us will be able to do it." Gary said with a smirk.

"So, you like your Squirtle?" Shu asked him.

"Yep, he is a Pokemon given by Grandpa so he is bound to be great. Of course, under me he will be an even more powerful Pokemon." Gary said haughtily.

"Well, then I hope you will give him enough training cause me and Nidoran here aren't going to just stay still. We'll become very strong. Right buddy?" Shu said before looking at his partner with a smile to which Nidoran let out a cry in agreement.

"Oh don't worry, I know how strong you can be. I just hope that Ashy Boy won't embarrass us." Gary said with a sigh at the last part.

"What do you mean by that?" Shu askrd him.

"I mean come on, look at him. This is the day a Pokemon trainer is given their Pokemon, arguably the most important day in any trainer's life and he isn't even here. As our childhood friend, it gets a bit embarrassing." Gary said to him.

Shu just rolled his eyes at the remark.

"Gary, the two of us have known him for a long time and we both know how he is." Shu said to him.

"Yeah yeah, still hate him though." Gary said to him.

"Right right. So, you're going to Viridian City right?" Shu asked him.

"Yeah, that's the first place we should go. I'm pretty sure that I'll reach there in no time." Gary said with a smile.

"Does it have something to do with the red car in front of the lab and the cheerleaders who were cheering your name outside?" Shu asked him with an amused look.

"Of course, I'm the great Gary Oak, if I didn't go in a car then how will I show my status." Gary said haughtily.

'Well, I'm not surprised by him anymore.' Shu thought to himself while Nidoran's ears twitched cutely.

"Well, let's go. You're about to leave right?" Shu sais to him.

"Yeah, and I'm guessing that you're going to wait for Ash?" Gary asked him.

"Yeah, I did tell him that the two of us will start our journeys at the same time." Shu said to him.

"Well, your choice." Gary said shrugging his shoulders as he walked away.

Shu followed him and then the two went down to meet with the people who were cheering for Gary. But they were also cheering for Shu when they saw him. The cheerleaders weren't behind as they also cheered for him and said his name and also for Nidoran as well.

Shu just laughed a bit but then he caught the sight of Ash running towards their direction with a dust cloud behind him. Gary also noticed him as he just gave a condescending smirk his way. Ash is in his pajama's as he stopped in front of Shu and panted due to running like that.

"Look who finally decided to show up." Gary said with a smirk.

"Shut up Gary." Ash said to him with a glare.

"Heh, well what happened which caused you to be so late. Wait, your wearing your pajama's. Don't tell me, did you oversleep?" Gary asked in a amused tone.

Ash just grit his teeth in response to it as Shu just sighed at their bickering.

"Alright Gary that's enough. Don't you have to get to Viridian City as fast as you can?" Shu asked him.

"Yeah you're right. Well bye Ash, I already got my Pokemon. Try to keep up." Gary said in a condescending tone as he got on his car.

The cheerleaders also got on the car as they kept on cheering him on. Gary waved at the people and said bye to Shu. The girls also said their good-bye's to him as the car started and they rode away. Shu looked as they went farther and farther away before turning to look at Ash.

"Alright Ash, let's go get you your Pokemon." Shu said to him.

"Oh right! Let's go!" Ash said excitedly as all his energy seemed to have come back.

Shu chuckled as he followed his friend to the lab.
