it was a confrontation

it always is

when has it ever ended nicely

ended well

endings aren't always happy

I mean I was happy

But my happiness is overpowered

by another man's sadness

and I know that I'm asking for too much

for it all to be swell

but I don't know if I can live in a kind of world

where sadness defeats joys

defeats every optimistic feeling

but that's the world we live in

this is the only world

for not anyways

perhaps in another life

It could be all

happy - go - lucky

but for now

sadness

is where truth lies
