Ch. 56 - Celadon Dept. Store

After interacting with the last NPC, I headed to the stairs and moved to the third floor.

<3F : TV GAME SHOP>

The third floor was filled with monitors, each displaying a different game on the screen.

Most of the NPCs on the third floor were busy playing games among themselves.

I moved in, and there were all sorts of video game accessories on display.

"I don't think I can purchase any of these." I said as I looked at them.

"Let's quickly interact with the NPC and move to the next floor."

Moving toward the NPC closest to me, I interacted with him.

"Captured Pokemon are registered with an ID No. and the OT."

"OT stands for 'Original Trainer', the TRAINER that caught it first."

"So even after trading the Pokemon, the name of the Original Trainer is still visible."

After interacting with him, I moved to the two NPCs who were talking with each other.

"Come on, HAUNTER"

"I love HAUNTER!, I collect them."

"Do you know that HAUNTER turns into a different Pokemon while being traded." said the first NPC.

Moving to the other NPC.

"My buddy's going to trade me his KANGASKHAN for my HAUNTER" said the other NPC.

While talking to them, I looked at the computer monitor which had different games opened on them.

Moving to the last NPC beside the salesman, I interacted with her too.

"You can identify Pokemon you get in trades by their ID numbers."

After interacting with her, I moved to the salesman to check the item he was selling.

"Oh, hi"

"I used to be a Pokemon trainer. You are one too."

"How about I teach you a good move?"

"The move I have in mind is COUNTER."

"Not like the one I'm leaning on, mind you!"

[Do you want to teach <Counter > to one of your Pokemon?]

[<Yes > <No >]

With his dialogue, a window appeared.

"What should I do?"

"I don't know anything about this move, and the move pool of all my Pokemon is filled with important selected moves."

"I think I should choose <No > and learn more about this move."

With that, I pressed <No >.

"You're not interested? Come see me if you change your mind." said the NPC salesman.

Done with the third floor, I moved to the fourth floor.

There wasn't much on this floor, some shelves and glass display cases filled with different types of stones.

Moving to the first NPC.

"I'm getting a present for my girlfriend."

"I guess a Poke Doll will be it. It's the popular thing."

"Though I wanted to give her a Water Stone, but I'm afraid she will evolve into a Water-Type."

"It isn't a bad thing, right?" said the NPC.

'That's weird, why would his girlfriend evolve? unless...'

Throwing those distracting thoughts out of my mind, I moved to the next NPC.

"I heard something useful."

"If a wild Pokemon appears, you can distract it with a Poke Doll."

"You can run away while the wild Pokemon is distracted." said the NPC.

'That's indeed a useful information.'

Done with the NPCs, I moved to the two salesmen.

Interacting with the first one, a list of items appeared.

Poke Doll and Retro Mail were useless to me, and I checked the PokeDEX entries of my Pokemon, and none of them required an evolution stone to evolve.

So, I didn't buy anything and moved to the other salesman.

This one sells a bunch of cosmetic items, which I wasn't interested in.

Moving on to the fifth floor.

<5F : DRUGSTORE>

The layout of this floor was similar to the fourth floor with a few shelves and glass display cases.

There were two NPCs besides the salesman.

"Pokemon stat enhancers can be bought only here."

"X Special increases the base SP. ATK stat of one Pokemon."

"X Sp. Def boosts the base SP. DEF stat of one Pokemon."

"X Speed enhances the base SPEED stat." said the NPC.

'Even though I knew about these stat enhancers when playing Pokemon Fire Red, I never used them.'

'Maybe that's why it took me a month to clear the game.'

'This time, I should keep these items in mind and use them when needed.'

Moving on to the next NPC.

"I'm here for Pokemon stat enhancers."

"X Attack increases the base ATTACK power."

"X Defence increases the base DEFENCE stat."

'Is everyone here only for the stat enhancers?'

Unlike the other floors where there were two salesmen, on this floor, there was only one.

Interacting with him, the list appeared.

Looking at the stat enhancers, each one of them was very expensive.

Since I don't think I'll be facing any tough battles in the near future, I didn't buy any of the stat enhancers.

"All right, done with the fifth floor, now only the roof is left."

Taking the stairs, I moved to the rooftop.

<ROOFTOP SQUARE : VENDING MACHINES>

There was nothing much on the roof, just three vending machines and two NPCs.

"My sister is a TRAINER, believe it or not."

"But, she's so immature, she drives me nuts!" said the first NPC.

Moving to the other NPC who I think is the sister of the other NPC.

"I'm thirsty. I want something to drink."

[Give her a Drink?]

[<Yes > <No >]

"Hum, Why not?"

"But do I have anything to drink?"

With uncertainty, I pressed <Yes >.

[Give her which drink?]

[Fresh Water

Cancel]

"Oh, I have fresh water."

"Man, I don't even know what all the items I have in my backpack."

I pressed <Fresh Water> since that was the only drink I had.

"Yay!"

"FRESH WATER" the NPC screamed with excitement.

"Thank You!"

"You can have this from me!"

[You received a TM - Light Screen from the Little Girl]

"It's a move that weakens the power of special attacks by your foe."

Done with her, I moved to the vending machines.

I checked out the vending machine, but I couldn't see anything inside, and there were no buttons to choose the items inside.

Curiously, to inspect the machine more, I pressed my hand on it and as soon as my hand touched the machine, a window appeared.

[Fresh Water - ₽300

Soda Pop - ₽600

Lemonade - ₽750]

"So, it only has these three items."

"But what am I going to do with them? Anything a player eats or drinks in the Pokemon World would have no effect."

"Wait can I give more drinks to that little girl? maybe get some more TMs from her."

I decided to buy one of every drink to check if she would give me more TMs.

I chose <Fresh Water - ₽300>, and a can of Fresh Water popped out of the machine.

Picking the can of Fresh Water and putting it in the backpack, I again pressed my hand on the vending machine.

This time I chose <Soda Pop - ₽600>, and a can of Soda Pop popped out.

One more time, and I got the can of Lemonade as well.

All of this cost me ₽1650.

After getting every drink, I head back to the little girl.

"I'm thirsty. I want something to drink."

[Give her a Drink?]

The same thing happened again when I interacted with her, I pressed <Yes >.

I pressed <Fresh Water>.

"No, thank you."

"I'm not thirsty after all."

"*Sigh* I guess I can't get any more TMs from her."

"Well, It was worth a try."

But before I head back, I wanted to try one more thing.

What will happen if I give something else to drink?

One more time, I interacted with her.

"I'm thirsty. I want something to drink."

Pressing <Yes >, the list appeared.

This time I pressed <Soda Pop>.

"Yay!"

"SODA POP"

"Thank You!"

"It's a move that prevents status problems among your Pokemon."

'Yes! It seems that she would only give a TM if presented with a different drink each time.'

'Since I have already given her Fresh Water and Soda Pop, only Lemonade is left.'

I quickly interacted with her and gave her Lemonade.

"Yay!"

"LEMONADE"

"Thank You!"

"You can have this from me!"

"TM33 contains REFLECT."

"It's a move that weakens the power of physical attacks by your foe."

Done with the Little Girl, I moved closer to the edge of the building.

"This view never gets old" I said as I admired the view of the 'Kanto Region'.

While admiring, I took out the can of Fresh Water which was left.

"Even though it would have no effect on me, I still want to try."

I tried to open the can of Fresh Water and even though I doubted that it wouldn't open, but it did.

I smelled it, but there was no smell. Ever since the incident when I tried to look at that golden code and got a severe headache which affected me in the Real World, I have become more conscious of what I do in the Pokemon World since I don't know what might affect my body.

But I don't think Fresh Water would have any effect on my real body, and even if it did, I don't think it would be negative.

I moved the can close to my mouth and took a sip then another and another and before I knew it the can was empty.
