Ch. 04 - To Viridian City

"Hey..."

The voices of the other players cut off as I enter the tall grasses on 'Route 1'.

A notification from the system appears, telling me that I have entered 'Route 1'. Looking around the area of 'Route 1', it is much larger than what was shown in the game.

Since my destination is 'Viridian City', I continue by heading toward the north of 'Route 1', where the exit to 'Viridian City' is located.

While walking through the tall grasses, I didn't encounter any wild Pokemon and reached a sign that said.

<Pallet Town - Viridian City>

The sign was placed in an open area where no tall grasses were present. After looking at the sign, I enter the next section of the tall grasses.

Again, I didn't encounter any Pokemon. Finally, after entering the third section of tall grasses, I encounter a wild Pidgey Lv. 5.

Right after encountering it, My Charmander was automatically sent out to battle against it. Just like in a Pokemon battle, three holographic screens appear in front of me.

I choose to attack it with <Ember >, taking almost half of its HP. In response, Pidgey used <Gust > dealing 6 damage.

Again, I choose to attack it with <Ember >, leaving it with 1 HP. And Pidgey used <Tackle > taking 6 HP points.

If I had some Poke Balls, I would have caught it, but currently, I don't have any. So I had to knock it out. Right after fainting, Pidgey burst into white particles of light, leaving an empty space behind.

'So, If a wild Pokemon faints, then it will be gone. That makes it difficult for trainers to catch the Pokemon without knocking it out. If it was similar to the Pokemon anime, then the fainted Pokemon could be caught, but It seems that this world strictly follows the rule of Pokemon games, where if the wild Pokemon faints, then it will be gone.'

Continuing on my journey, I encountered a Sentret Lv. 2, which was not supposed to be on 'Route 1' according to my knowledge of the Pokemon Fire Red game.

Since I do not have any Poke Balls, I choose to finish it off. It took 2 <Ember > from Charmander before its HP reached 0.

Right after Sentret, I encountered another Pidgey Lv. 3, which I knocked out using 2 <Ember >.

It took me about 1 hour to cross the third section of tall grasses and reach another open area that had a small flower bed growing.

'The area of 'Route 1' is much larger than I expected. It seems that I'll have to hurry if I want to reach 'Viridian City' and return to deliver the parcel before I reach the 6-hour limit.'

Entering the fourth section of the tall grasses, I didn't encounter any wild Pokemon. 30 minutes later, I was out of the tall grass. Now I could see 'Viridian City' in the distance.

Knowing that I am almost at my destination, I enter the fifth section of the tall grass which is also the last section of tall grass on 'Route 1'.

I encounter a Rattata Lv. 2 as soon as I enter the tall grass, Which I easily knock out with 1 <Ember >

Charmander Lv7 - 09/23

[Charmander gained 17 EXP. points]

After 15 minutes, I encountered another Rattata Lv. 3. I took 2 <Ember > before his HP reached 0. While I used <Ember >, Rattata used <Tail Whip>, dealing no damage.

Just as I was about to exit the Tall grass, I had another wild encounter with a Pidgey Lv. 4.

Quickly using <Ember >, I knocked its HP by almost 2/3, whereas Pidgey used <Sand-Attack > to reduce Charmander's accuracy.

The fall in Chamnader's accuracy played its part as I used another <Ember >, which the Pidgey avoided. The Pidgey again used his <Sand-Attack > move to reduce Charmander's accuracy.

Again, I chose <Ember >, which the Pidgey avoided, and used another <Sand-Attack >.

Frustrated by the repeated missing of the attack, I again used <Ember >, but this time, It hit, causing the HP of Pidgey to reach 0.

Charmander Lv8 - 11/25

[Charmander gained 32 EXP. points]

After the battle with the Pidgey, I was able to exit the last patch of the wild grass and reach the road that leads to 'Viridian City'.

It took me another 15 minutes and almost 3 hours in total to cross 'Route 1' and reach 'Viridian City'.

A system message pops up to notify me that I have entered 'Viridian City'. Looking around the streets of 'Viridian City', I was able to easily find a building with a Red roof and a 'P.C' written on the front.

I walked into the building and was now in a big empty lobby with a pinkish-red desk and a woman who I assume to be one of the Nurse Joy, standing behind the desk alongside a machine with 6 slots in it. Some books on a shelf, a computer at the far back corner of the lobby, a small sitting area, and stairs that lead to another floor.

There were only 3 people present in the Pokemon Center lobby other than me and Nurse Joy. I moved to the desk.

"Welcome to our Pokemon Center!" said Nurse Joy as soon as I reached the desk.

"Would you like me to heal your Pokemon back to perfect health?"

Just as she said that, a window appeared in front of me with two options and some text.

[<Yes > <No >]

[Wait Time - 00:00:00]

'What is this <Wait Time> option at the bottom of the window?'

After thinking for some time, I couldn't come up with any proper explanation, So I chose to ignore that. I pressed the <Yes > button, and immediately, the Poke Ball of Charmander flew out of my body into the hands of Nurse Joy. And the windows that show my Pokemon turn empty.

"Okay, I'll take your Pokemon for a few seconds." said Nurse Joy as she put the Poke Ball in the empty slots on the machine beside her.

"You are lucky as there is no other trainer here whose Pokemon needs to be healed. So you don't have to wait, as your Pokemon will be restored right away." said Nurse Joy as we waited for my Pokemon to heal.

'So that's what the <Wait Time> option is for. Since there will be many players coming to heal there, It will be a first come first serve scenario where the player who came first will have his Pokemon healed first while other players will have to wait for their turn.'

"Thank You for waiting. We've restored your Pokemon to full health." said Nurse Joy as she handed me the Poke Ball with my Pokemon in it.

"Hope to see you again."

With a nod to Nurse Joy, I exited the Pokemon Center and started looking for the Poke Mart to retrieve Professor Oak's parcel.

The Poke Mart was not far from the Pokemon Center, and I was easily able to find it.

Similar to what Professor Oak has described, the Poke Mart is a building with a blue color roof with 'Mart' written at the front.

Just as I entered the Poke Mart, The Poke Mart Clerk noticed me and said.

"Hey, You came from 'Pallet Town'?"

"Yes, I did" I replied to him.

"You know Professor Oak, right?"

"His order came in. Can I get you to take it to him?"

"Yes I know Professor Oak, and he asked me to retrieve his parcel from you."

The Poke Mart Clerk bent down, picked up a cardboard box, and handed it to me.

[You have received Professor Oak's parcel from the Pokemon Mart Clerk]

A notification came from the system.

"Okay, Thanks! Please say Hi to Professor Oak for me, too" said the Poke Mart Clerk as he went back to attending his customers.

I put the parcel into my backpack. The backpack works similarly to the Pokemon game. It could store many things while being small and light. To retrieve something, a window will appear showing all the contents of the backpack from which I could choose what item to retrieve.

I looked around the Poke Mart. The Poke Mart is packed with shelves of stuff related to Pokemon.

I thought of purchasing some Poke Balls from the Poke Mart that I could use to catch some Pokemon while on my way back to 'Pallet Town', but as I talked to the Poke Mart Clerk, he said.

"Please deliver Professor Oak's parcel first, and then you can buy the Items."

'This world follows the game to the core, as in the game too, the player was not allowed to buy any items until they deliver the parcel. Since this world follows the game mechanism so strictly, then there should be some mechanism that I could exploit as well, like the 'Infinite Nugget Trick' or some other trick.'

After knowing that I couldn't progress any further without delivering the parcel, so instead of wasting my time, I started heading to the south of the 'Viridian City' where 'Route 1' is.

Similar to the games, there were parts of 'Route 1' which did not have any tall grass but that part could only be accessed from one side. I made my way to one such part, and there was a sloop from which I could move down towards the direction of 'Pallet Town'.

After moving down one of the sloops, I tried to climb back up that same sloop, but a large red holographic shield would appear and stop me from climbing.

Wasting no more time, I started making my way to the 'Pallet Town', even after using the short part, the distance from 'Viridian City' to 'Pallet Town' was not small.

After about 1 hour, I was almost at 'Pallet Town' but something or someone caught my attention.

Other players, who were making their way to 'Viridian City'.
