After an hour of mingling, old master Zhang called for everyone's attention. "Even if I want to talk about all the boring business details with everyone, I have to cut it short for a while." All the adults chuckled at his bored expression. "It's time for my granddaughter's birthday cake cutting." As soon as he finished a huge cake was rolled out on a stroller. It was a two layered rainbow cake with a beautiful rainbow colored whipped cream and different varieties of macarons covering the cake.
The cake was so visually appetizing that many guests gulped loudly wanting to taste the cake quickly. The lights dimmed making the cake and RuQian the only one's visible due to the candle's light. The orchestra started playing the usual tune for the birthday song. The guests caught on to the music and started singing along. "Make a wish." Many of her schoolmates shouted when she was about to blow the candles.
RuQian smiled lightly at the kids, closed her eyes, made a wish and then blew out the candles while everyone applauded and the lights turned back on. Lan Xie was jumping up and down beside RuQian and hugged her tightly wishing her a happy birthday for the millionth time. Some of the female guests cringed watching how Lan Xie jumped. Seriously how could one jump in such huge pointy heels? They had a difficult time walking properly in them.
RuQian cut the cake, fed her grandfather first, then Lan Xie and then Amy and smiled while they fed her back. She then nodded to the hotel staff and gestured for them to cut the rest of the cake. Lan Xie stole some macarons before they could wheel out the cake. They shared the macarons while walking towards the bar.
Many of RuQian's classmates wished her on their way. Her grandfather had insisted that it would be better if she didn't receive any presents directly. She agreed knowing that it was for her safety and the presents that mattered to her were the one's from her family and friends, others didn't really matter much whether she received them directly or not.
When she was at the bar RuQian felt weird. She could feel someone's eyes on her. She slowly looked around trying to see who it was, but the direction from where she felt the intense gaze was dark. She couldn't really make out who it was. RuQian started feeling stifled and wanted to get some fresh air. "Guys I'll be back in a while."
"Hmm? Where are you going Qian Qian?"
"Let her go Xiao Xie. She must be irritated. Everybody was trying to talk to her for the past hour. She must need a break. Come back quickly Qian Qian." Amy told her.
"En." RuQian left quietly holding onto her sparkling blue mocktail. She slipped out of the room silently and walked around in the hallways. There were a few false balconies in the hallway, she entered one and stared out at the city below. The citylights glowed brightly accompanied by the car horns in the distance. She let her mind clear out slowly while sipping on her cold drink. The hair on the back of her neck rose alerting her to the intruder.
"My, what is the young miss doing here all alone?" The grating voice spoke up disturbing her peaceful time. RuQian had half a mind to do a roundhouse kick on this rat bastard but stopped herself.
"Trying to escape from you." RuQian replied in a deadpanned tone without turning back. RuQian's eyes widened as she felt another pair of eyes. These felt like the same one's from earlier when she couldn't see who it was, intense and dangerous. Her body had gotten accustomed to analysing the dangers around her. These pair of eyes on her felt dangerous, very dangerous. Her heartbeat increased rapidly trying to locate the danger but this rat bastard touched her shoulder at this moment.
Out of reflex she held his wrist, turned around and twisted Chang Min's arm behind his back forcefully. He cried out in pain while she smirked slightly. He was lucky she stopped herself from breaking or dislocating his arm. "I don't like it when someone touches me." She pushed him into the hallway before taking out a wet wipe from her purse and wiping the hand she touched this rat with.
She glanced at Chang Min who glared at her angrily with a raised eyebrow. "Can I help you with anything else?" RuQian calmly asked him.
Chang Min gritted his teeth angrily, "No thanks." He muttered and left stomping through the dark hall way.
RuQian didn't relax, in fact she felt even more afraid. Those dangerous eyes she felt never left her, she wanted to look around to find out who it was but she couldn't give away the fact that she knew someone was watching her. She quietly sipped her drink to calm her nerves but did not dare to turn around to watch the citylights anymore. What if someone pushed her from behind? She just leaned against the column trying to sense how close that person was.
She kept a straight and calm face even when she felt the person coming closer. If she hadn't trained every single day for months and if she didn't have good skills to begin with she wouldn't have realized that someone was walking towards her. She could sense whoever the person was, he was trained and was able to walk very lightly.
RuQian wanted to run back to the hall wanting to avoid this deadly person, but she didn't have the strength to move. She felt like there was something in the air, the intense and deadly vibe, forcing her to remain still. On the outside it seemed like she was having a peaceful time, having a drink in the open space while on the inside her nerves were going haywire.
She mentally counted the weapons she had at hand, the crystal glass in her hand, her purse could be used as a weapon, she could kick that person with her high heels and most importantly her hairpin was her best weapon. She silently took deep breaths through her nose as the person was almost near but stood in the shadows.
How many people are trying to harm this girl? ⊙_⊙
