Raven Butterfly

He didn't expect an exhausted sigh as his response to that question. The ghoul looked down and crossed his arms again, looking weary enough to heighten the confusion and doubt in him.

"What makes you think that an Adrift Soul Demon doesn't kill you the moment you step in here?" He asked, raising his left eyebrow with blackened eyes glaring at him.

So Eun internally paid attention to his slight movements and processed all the words that he's been saying, and at the same time, he gradually realized something.

"Oh, I forgot. You didn't know the Demon King, of course, you haven't heard of me too. Nan Yang, the Adrift Soul Demon, I am feared by mortals because of a habit of snatching their souls while they are unconscious." So Eun saw the way he rolled his eyes at him and continued speaking. He seemed to become impatient when the feud still goes on.

"Aside from that, there was one thing that makes me exceptional and unique from the other Demons." This time, he took again another stepped closer, and slightly showed his palm towards So Eun. The Deity stubbornly didn't look at it.

"Yes, is my answer to your question." Nan Yang blurted out suddenly in the middle of the heated session, hearing that, So Eun felt a lump in his throat which had got stuck. Because at that moment, So Eun noticed something not quite right.

The answer to his questions wasn't even close enough to Yes or No, it's just that he learned that Demons could swiftly manipulate and determine the uncertainty in his expressions, and it's exactly after the moment he said those words.

Generally, a powerful Demon as vicious as he, no doubt he would take the chance to kill off the life of a mortal who dared to come across him, especially if it is your kind's biggest foe. So Eun suspected that he wasn't capable enough to pull a Deity's soul, but to kill a Deity would certainly elevate his notorious image as an Adrift Soul Demon. Thus, why didn't he kill him in the first place?

"Why didn't you kill me in the first place? Think about it, Your Highness. I suppose I wouldn't get an answer from you right now." Nan Yang turned around after he smirked arrogantly at him. Went through along with the tall bushes, effortlessly waving his hand for the tall bushes to make a path.

"Oh, can I add something? You can freely go back from this place when you feel like you'd stop being stubborn and ignorant. Have a great journey, So Eun." Nan Yang left a snickered towards the Deity and instantly disappeared within the dark smoke.

So Eun was eventually the only one left on the scene.

A while later, So Eun reflected on the words that have been delivered, but no matter the intentions, he couldn't deny the fact that Nan Yang is a Demon, who could easily place down a lie and swiftly get a hold of something he wants. He might be in the middle of an internal crisis, yet So Eun wouldn't like to wander with a purely blackened demon on his first day.

After letting out a puffed of breath, he mindlessly strode forward on the stone path leading to the peak of the mountain. That's when he did not see a glimpse of the single butterfly that merely appeared behind him exactly when the meeting was over.

"What just happened?" He stopped in his tracks and turned his head to look at the tall bushes where Nan Yang disappeared to leave. But when he came to turn, So Eun expected to see the waving scrubs at him, thus he was slightly surprised to see up close the raven butterfly resting on his right shoulder. It lays peacefully and frozen in its place that So Eun immediately stands still, hoping for it not to fly away if he moves too much. Then, he examined the precious thing without moving.

He couldn't help but admire its darkened wings, a little spot of starlights could be seen splattered on it, and the dark made that spot glow dazzlingly, it was the first time in his second life, that he had ever seen a precious entity that is so remarkable and exceptional.

He was mesmerized by it as he unconsciously lifted his left hand to try to grasp it gently.

But the moment the fingertips were only an inch away, the raven butterfly flapped its wings softly and flew again, and went directly ahead of him, So Eun soundlessly gasped and stared at it for a while. Then, he noticed something that his eyebrows narrowed and momentarily stuck in his place.

A thought came into his head, he never saw the butterfly appear when Nan Yang bothered him, but he did see it first before going deeper into the woods. He followed it with his eyes and couldn't help to move a few steps forward to have a better view of it.

They moved in silence, the rustling trees and soundless whipped of the wind bypassed them, So Eun heeded with interest, that he barely realized they were near the peak of the mountain when the butterfly abruptly flew in a different direction. So Eun pursued and halted in his tracks.

His attention left the raven butterfly when he saw the faded hues of the sky, it was like a sea has been turned upside down, fish weren't in its habitat but flying birds roaming within the vast blue sky.

The butterfly eventually led him to the peak of the mountain, where the gusts of winds are enough for his robes and hair to flattered irritatingly, but So Eun didn't mind that because when he stopped in the middle of his tracks and at this exact spot, the view of the peak was enough to render him speechless.

And it isn't just that, a spark of heavy thumping of a heart was enough to take him out of breathing, so he ceased in his steps to feel it for a while. He looked around to find that butterfly, but it suddenly disappeared into thin air.

It was again just like before, but at this moment, the effect had a different wave of numbness and at the same time unbearable to withstand the pain.

So Eun contemplated and mindlessly wandered his eyes at the view of the peak. Could this be?

A forgotten and desolate mountain that was enough to make him feel an overwhelming surge of pain. So Eun inhaled and exhaled a distressed sigh, and thought that, could this be the key that was connected to his first life?
