Pathfinder’s Whims

Amongst many worlds, Uthreth is one of the few habitable by beings that bring corruption due to the very Knowledge that records their existence, the Gods. Their very presences distorts, corrupts, and destroys many worlds, causing them to flee as they need a world to sustain them. Ten gods found Uthreth, amazed at the fact that their corruption had no effect on it. Excited, they attempted to invade… …But Uthreth fought back. This is a story of gods, of seers, of Guides, and much more. Can this stalemate be broken? Truly? — Update rate will usually be around 7 chapters per week, but I might need to take breaks. Right now I’m mass releasing, as I’ve written a lot of chapters! Enough for me to be comfortable for a good 2 to 3 weeks with a stable upload rate! If you like it, don’t forget to add it to your collections! — I might commission art for the characters one day, since I’m not very talented in that department. I hope my explanations and detail will be enough to satisfy! Thanks for reading my passion project. I’ll keep trying to polish my writing skills even further, since this is going to be a long novel.

Chapter 35: Wrap Up

Goo! A massive pulse of energy oscillated with a square muzzle as the center, the front sight pointed at the tower shield with runic etchings emblazoned on its long green body. The lump of light that was ejected out of the long gun shaped like a G11 assault rifle.

The surface pushed back at the squarish lump, finally gaining the upper ground as Uris jumped into the air and redirected the shot towards the ground. This left her all but open to the shot of the second heavily armored scientist, as the blade of a stone two-headed great axe was standing, as if it were another shield, directly in front of her lithe form. Bie raised both of his hands above his head as he held the pole up high, while Ulun was distracting one of the reloading scientists by aiming the rounded edges of his hooks into the cracking panels on one of their heads.

The blood-soaked silver canes rammed relentlessly upon the still holding pane, though chips of glass shot back at him as the obfuscated woman behind the panel desperately attempted to dodge his strikes. Though she wasn't doing a very good job, as every missed strike was actually a ruse to open up a weak spot long enough for the bladed insides of the hook to slash through her body, her coat similarly parting along the way.

The other woman was in a much better position, successfully loading the canister into her rifle before the muzzle flashed, this time pointing at Bie. Though this shot only landed on the ground as Bie flanked the trajectory of the mass of light, before he throwed his axe into the air. The woman couldn't hide the befuddlement that clouded her senses as she saw his next move.

Bie had leapt in the air and stepped on his axe, whilst lowering his weight to almost nothing! The Ink in his body was almost fully consumed by this maneuver, but it was a worthwhile action as he had vaulted the weapon blade first at the woman. Carried along by the rampant power the axe held when he launched it with as much ferocity as he could bear, a straight line was traced in the air as gusts of wind blew away lumps of blood and sand.

He flashed his teeth underneath his hood as the corners of his lips completely upended, savoring the fervor he felt as he imbrued his body with blood. Red splatters covered more of his armor than clean surfaces, and his cloak fluttered backwards along with the hood he pulled down, fist clenched on the cloth. Cracks formed underneath his feet as his plated boots imprinted their shape into the stone surface, as if the very surface was threatening to shatter simply because he touched it.

BANG! The head of the axe crushed the woman's windpipe as blood covered the insides of the glass panel and brought the plastic covering directly onto the cooler the scientist was situated in front of. An indent formed under her squirming form as she struggled for breath, while Bie clasped his hands around the helmet and beat it against the cooler before pulling it back towards him and bashing it against the surface again. And again and again, right up until she stopped struggling and slumped to the ground. Bie's foot touched the ground as well, surrounded by stone pebbles; the remnant of the axe he had used to quickly approach his adversary in the first place.

He cracked his tightened knuckles and turned around the see Ulun pulling the arm away from his own opposition, blood spraying from the cleanly cut tendons. His other hook slashed off the remaining hand's fingers, carrying the assault rifle with it into as the digits plopped onto the ground.

Uris smacked her shield across polymer wrapped shins, the two making the figure's body contort in weird ways as her stature unnaturally bended in three different directions at once. It didn't take long for the light of life to escape her eyes as her lungs sputtered out their last gasps of air, her own life ending before her lungs had fully cut off. Her quivering corpse let out two expansions as air left her lungs, before she laid completely limp.

"We should be about done; this is probably what those mages wanted." He directed one his right arm to the looming pinstriped box with cold air radiating out of it. His hook sword was still kept firmly in his hands as he said this, clearly maintaining his guard. Uris trained her eyes on their immediate surroundings, as vigilant as she was at the start of the skirmish.

Bie looked at Ulun, whose breath never faltered once during the series of movements they had been moving. His perception barely allowed him to perceive the states of the two, so he noticed every rise and dip in their throats as air coursed through their body. His eyes let out flashes of topaz yellow light that were thankfully obscured by his cloak, and his nose itched as his senses were riled up. The scent of blood had whipped him into a frenzy, but he diverted part of his mind to push down his urge to riot in the horde of clashing bodies.

Uris had to exert herself the most out of the bunch, as Ulun always struck with precise and matter of fact movements that were always intentional, and Bie didn't have to breathe in the first place. The rapid brandishing of the weighty shield strained her toned arms, as pearls of sweat hurriedly pushed themselves down her brown, blood speckled skin.

The number of mercenaries had thinned considerably, and even the number of mages had thinned a down a bit. Though the Renthians were panting as sweat slid down their bodies as well, very few had even the slightest wounds or the streaks of red that colored each and every mercenary dead and alive alike. In a more normal circumstance, people would simply think that they had went out for a jog under the hot sun.

The only evidence that they had fought at all were impossible works of nature like spikes of ice or flashes of lightning, and sometimes the very ground quaked and tendrils of roots spiked into mercenaries and beam shooting scientists. It was unmistakable that they had mostly sought to protect their own lives amidst the onslaught, however, as some were even talking amongst themselves while letting out chuckles.

Bie's eyebrows creased as spurts of vexation arose from the depths of his mind and colored his countenance a deepening shade of baby blue. Uris's eyes caught a glimpse of the now exposed lower half of his face, noting the pursed lips and trembling that shook his cheeks as his teeth ground together. She smiled, giving him a tired look, before affixing her attention back on surveying the scene.

Ulun tapped his feet against the ground that was somewhat softer than before, pulling out the piece of parchment in his pouch before rubbing the insides of it along the blade of his hooks. Soft ripping noises indistinctive from the heat of the battle resounded as the splattered surfaces were completely silver once again, before he folded the paper back ad stuck it into his puch.

After a few minutes, the battle had ended.

In the future, I'll have even larger conflicts! Please keep in mind that I'm still working on polishing my writing skills.
