A Crazy Party!

I sent two letters out later that day. One was sent to Lynn to thank her for answering my question, and one to mom to ask for her permission to go to the Moonfall Continent.

In my letter to mom, I left out one detail.... I didn't tell her that I can't cast magic any more. I know that if I told her that, she will never allow me to head to the Moonfall Continent after all, so it's a necessary lie for now.

I brought the news of the katana to Gabriel.....

"The Moonfall Continent huh...."

"Is there something wrong?"

"No. But I do have quite a few bad memories there, especially at the Pacific Ocean...."

"Once I had obtained the katana, I will head over to Amaterasu-sama's shrine. It seems that I have something to witness there...."

"I see. A personal crusade to the east huh?"

"Calling it a crusade is a bit much.... But I guess I am listening to the call of a god after all."

"I see. What you will do from now on is up to yourself to decide.... But I will always be here to offer you assistance, should you need it."

"Thank you... Before I go, I have one more question. Just who are you?" I asked out to him.

"I am the archbishop, obviously-"

"That's not it, I meant the you in the past.... You know Lynn, the Magic Pioneer, and you also said something about the Moonfall Continent.... No normal priest have this much stories to tell."

"....I suppose I can tell you huh? I am the Divine Pioneer, Gabriel Becker."

"The Divine Pioneer?..."

"Indeed. I know and can use all sorts of miracles that are extremely difficult for normal people to use.... And I am possibly one of the only few person who can cast large scaled miracles."

"Large scale miracles huh?...."

I don't know much about miracles, but I know that unlike spells, miracles are all based on one's faith. This means that in order to cast a large scale miracle that affect the entire city, one must have a ridiculous amount of believe in the things that they do.

Part of the reason why miracles are so hard to use is because faith falters all the time.... Whether a believe in oneself, or on a God, faith is never consistent.

If he can be the Divine Pioneer, then he must be some Saint-like figure that rivals the likes of Saint George or Saint Joan of Arc.....

"The reason I know of Lynn and is unfond of the Moonfall Continent is because I participated in the Great War.... I played a major role in the success of the Allied force's campaign."

"I see...."

"But I've swore to use my miracles to help others instead of causing further bloodshed.... This is what led me to become an Archbishop in the Holy Kingdom of Ataraxia."

"I see.... Thank you for always looking out for me, I really appreciate the mental support that you gave me."

"Naturally. So, what will you do from now on?"

"I will travel to the Moonfall Continent by myself and find the sword.... But I need to finish my school first."

"I see. May fortune be with you in your journey."

"Thank you. Farewell, Divine Pioneer Gabriel!" I bid my goodbye to him as I prepares to leave.

A small smile appeared on his face. "Hmm."

Like that, I started to plan my journey to the Moonfall Continent while I am busy with my upcoming exam.

A month passed by, it is the middle of Autumn now. Just 2 weeks later will be when the finals happen...

"-rie? Kyrie?"

"Huh?"

"I was talking to you, Kyrie!"

As usual, I was patrolling the school during recess with Diana by my side.

"Sorry.... What were you saying again?"

"I was asking, what are you planning to do when you graduate?"

"Me?... Let's see here.... How about you tell me first?"

"I want to be a magic researcher... I want to develop and make illusion magic viable in combat."

"I see.... I don't know what I want to be...."

"Then why not become an adventurer? You are already one right?"

".....An adventurer huh?...."

That doesn't sound so bad, I can travel the world to find out what do do with my life....

"....But for now, I will travel to the Moonfall Continent."

"There? Why?"

"I... I need to go there to find a cure for my condition."

".....Let me come with you."

"What?"

"I said let me come with you."

"....Are you crazy?"

"What's this about going to the Moonfall continent, girls?" Said a boy as he shoves himself in between us.

"Garnet!" (2x)

"I heard you two talking about going on a journey without me.... Don't leave me out like that."

"No we weren't talking about going on a journey...." I said, trying to change the subject.

"Don't ignore me, Kyrie. Let me escort you to the Moonfall Continent."

"Oh. You said you wanted to go there right?"

"....No."

"She said she need to go there to get her condition fixed."

"Diana.... Why did you have to drag Garnet into this...."

"Because you're weak. Without magic, even I can defeat you."

"You don't know that...."

"Sure, let's go together with her, Diana."

"Oh, you're in as well? Aren't you a squire?"

"Well, it's not like I'm in a hurry. Besides, my mentor will be happy if I just said that this is in order to expand my horizon."

"I see..."

"Look you two, it's none of your business so don't barge in like it's your house...."

"Come on, don't be like that! We both know that you need our help, and someone to keep you company while you travel."

"But I'm talking about THE Moonfall Continent you know?! That's half a world away, all the way across Centralia Continent! Way pass Kemet, Hindu, Malacca and Middle Kingdom! It'd take at least a year just to go there by ship!"

"It'd be a fun journey."

"It's like a school trip then."

"Geez you two...."

"Stop being so stubborn and just let us escort you on your way there. When you arrive at Moonfall continent safely, we'll leave." Diana said to me with a determined face.

"...."

"And... It'd be a blast to get to duel with many people on the way there."

"....Do whatever you two like."

(One month later....)

The exam is over. And we were having a celebration party at my house.... I also invited both Michael and Gerdur over to celebrate.

(3:20 p.m.)

Today is the last day of school, and the final exam ended just earlier today. I was extremely tired, but I had to go home to make preparations for the party....

I walked alone down the streets, and arrived at my terrace unit. Sitting in the porch of my house is Gerdur and Michael.

"Oh, you two are here early."

"We had nothing to do after all...."

"I see. Come inside then."

'Cha chank.' I opened the door and headed in.

".....So this is your house...." (2x)

"Mm Hmm. I'll bring some tea over, make yourselves at home."

I put my bag down besides the door, and then went into the kitchen to boil hot water....

I opened the stove's fuel chamber, and then stuff some firewood into it.

"Need some fire?" Said Gerdur, who followed me into the kitchen.

"....That'd be great."

"Oh Lord of the light, bring forth warm and light upon this one, Ember."

She lighted a small fire on her hand and then put it into the chamber to burn the wood.

"It must be tough for you huh?" Said Gerdur as she did all that.

"Hmm? What's this all of a sudden?"

"You can't use magic after all.... Even as simple as lighting a fire requires you to use tools."

"Yeah.... But you'll get used to it."

"I see. Well then, I'll head back to the living room."

"Mmm. I'll be back real quick, I'll just have to change to my normal clothes."

I headed upstairs back to my room, and then changed into my casual clothes before heading downstairs back to the living room.

Garnet and Diana will be arriving later... I guess it's just us three for now huh?

I made my way back to the living room, and upon sitting down on the couch in front of the duo....

"Kyrie, let us come with you to the Moonfall Continent as well." (2x) Said Gerdur and Michael, almost synchronized.

"Huh?"

"You heard what we said."

"You two as well?!... Sheesh...."

"Why? Did you have travel partners already?"

"Garnet and Diana forced themselves on me as well....."

"Watch how you say things Kyrie!"

"So... Why did you two want to come?"

"Come on, we are adventurers! An adventure to the Moonfall Continent would be extremely exciting!"

"This is not a trip you know? We won't be doing a lot of sight seeing...."

"It's fine, we already asked our parents for permission and they say that it'd be dangerous for a young and small girl like you to travel alone, so we can come with you!"

"And... I was dragged into it by Gerdur." Said Michael with a tired looking face.

"Sigh... Alright then, it's really a friend group's trip then like Garnet said...."

The winter came and gone by like a gush of wind. Before long, it's spring again, and it was time for me to get my test results.

(School lobby)

"Hmm...." I looked on the leaderboard to check for my results.

"Ah there it is."

Kyrielle Buffet, rank 8, Aces in every single subject except Miracles.

"Yep, just as I had expected."

It was then, a person tapped on my shoulder.

"Hello? You are Kyrielle Buffet right?" It was the staff lady.

"Mmm... Do you need anything?"

"The Principal had actually asked to see you."

"Jack?... Alright, I'll go find him."

I made my way back into the school, and then walked on the empty hallway to his office.

"....." How silent. This isn't what the school is like at all when I am studying here....

It feels somewhat sad.... Even if I only spent a year here, it still holds all the memories that I made as a kid back then, with Michael, Gerdur and Richard.

"Sigh.... Richard...."

Even after such a long time after he had died... I still hold some amount of feelings for him.

"If only I can see him again.... At least a goodbye will do...."

Soon, I had reached the principal's office.

'Knock knock'

"Come in."

"Excuse me...." I opened the door to his room.

"Oh, it's you."

"I heard you asked for me.... Do you need something?"

"I was thinking of hiring you to be a teacher in this school. Specifically, a magic knight teacher."

"Me?... Why me?"

"You showed competence in both sword techniques and magic. It'd be a shame to let you off the school so easily...."

"Hahaha.... Me?..."

"What's so funny?"

"Nothing. It's just that I'm so sick of people expecting so much of me even though I'm not someone incredible like that...."

"But aren't you someone special like that?"

"Shut up.... Without my magic, I'm no one special.... It's all just my talent anyway! Who the hell am are you kidding, someone special?..."

"....I can't use magic anymore. Don't waste time trying to recruit me... Without magic, I can't do anything..... I know that better than anyone else...."

"Hahaha....."

"Why are you laughing, principal?"

"You underestimates my source.... I already know that you can't use magic."

"Who do you think that Archbishop Gabriel get most of his magic items from?"

"Then is it out of pity?...."

"You think too low of yourself. Sure, you were given an unfair advantage over others just by birth alone.... but does that discredit your achievements? Do you really think that anyone with the same talent as you would be able to grow into a fighter as powerful as you are?"

"....Yes."

"Don't be stupid. What makes you special is not because of your talent in magic, but in the way you hone your techniques. I doubt anyone would've come up with a complete fighting style just from a single spell alone, isn't that what your essay in the exam says?"

"!..."

In the Magical Theory exam, there is an essay that asks the question 'What differentiates a good mage from the best mage?'

"Here, I still have your paper. Let me read the summary out for you incase you forgot about it."

"No stop! It's embarrassing!"

"-In conclusion, the best mages is not much different from the good mages. What seperates them is their skills, and their mindset. A good mage can use one spell to it's best. The best mages can find other uses for the same spell outside of it's conventional usage.

It is the same with my personal fighting style, the 'Inferno Style' using the fire swords that I can summon. Blaze Edge by it's most basic use is for slashing and cutting in close range, but what's stopping me from using them in ways other than that? I can jump on them for mobility, I can spin it like a rotor for defende, and even fire it out like a normal projectile. The only limit is your creativity and the potential of the spell."

"Ahh!... Stop it! It's just a spur of the moment essay!"

"I think it's a really great essay that speaks volumes about your skills. THIS is exactly the essay that can earn you a Master Degree." He said as he puts my exam paper back into a drawer.

".....I know...."

"You ARE skilled, not just talented. It takes both hard work and talent to make someone like you, so don't discredit yourself like that ever again."

"....Sorry....."

But... I needed to hear this exactly. I have been constantly struggling to deal with the expectationa from others and I just couldn't maintain it anyway longer....

I needed someone like Jack to tell me that I wasn't just talented, but also skilled and work just as hard as others....

"So, will you consider my offer? This year, I will create a new subject in order to train new Magic Knights, you seem like a good candidate as a teacher."

"....No. I will find a way to bring back my ability to cast magic.... I will travel to the Moonfall Continent for that."

"I see. I can't force you, and it seems that you already have something in mind."

"But.... If I made it back here, even without the ability to cast magic I will consider becoming a teacher, if that's fine with you."

Jack looked at me with a surprised face, and smiled. "...Hmpt. What's a few more years to me? I'm old anyway."

"Thank you, principal Jack.... Since I was a kid, you've been watching over me and offering me advice in both magic and life as well. Thank you, I really mean it."

"It is what a principal would do, I will be waiting for your news after you made it back here. Until then, I will have one more desk at the teacher's office be reserved for you."

"Thank you.... Farewell, Principal. I will be gone for a long time after this."

"Farewell, Kyrielle Buffet. Good luck on your journey to the Moonfall Continent."

"Mmm!"

(9:22 a.m.)

"-Do you have all your things packed? We will be going on a long journey after all!" I said to Garnet and Diana.

"Don't worry, I packed all of my stuffs already!"

"And all I need is just my trusty claymore...."

"All you ever cared about is just battles anyway." Diana replied to him with a sneer.

"Don't say that as if it's the only thing I care about...."

"Other than cute girls and battles, what do you care about?"

"Hah?! I care about my future! I want to become a magic knight in the king's special force!"

"Now now, please don't fight before our journey even starts."

'Knock knock.'

While in a long sleeved button shirt and knee length skirt, I put on the blue coat and hat, and then wore the boar hide scarf on my neck... All of this is my traveller clothes from the Bostnia Continent, gifts from friends that I met on my journey there.

"Our time has come.... Let's go everyone."

"Yeah." (2x)

'Cha chank.'

"Sorry we are late!" Said Gerdur, with a tired look.

"Don't worry, it's not like we are on a tight schedule."

Everyone got out of my house, and I made sure to extinguish all the fire and lock all the windows....

On the desk besides the main door, I looked at a picture of my father captured during my childhood.

"I'll be going.... Dad."

Then I exited the house and locked the door tightly. Carrying my hand held bag that I had on through the entire Bostnia continent, I walked out of the porch and to the main road where everyone is waiting for me.

Most importantly, I had my katana strapped to my waist once again. Now that I lost all my magic abilities, I have to rely on this sword more than ever....

"Wow, look at you. Out of all of us, it seems that you are the one who's dressed the most impressive. You do have experience with traveling huh?" Said Michael, as he checks my entire body out.

"Of course I do, and looking good is important when you travel! If you're cute looking, merchants are willing to be more forgiving with you. Its important for your travel clothes to look good and be durable!"

"Yes yes, miss Look-Good-in-my-Travel-Clothes. Now, lead the way."

"Hmpt. Now we need to head to Pretannia, the port city to ride the ship through the Aegean Sea.... That means we need to head west now even though our destination is at the far East!"

"You sure did your homework huh?"

"Now, let all of us get this show started, because this will be a crazy party!"

"Yeah!!!" (4x)
