Land of the Dead

[Azula Moon]

Gryokinesis(Lv10)

It had been six years since Kite started his world transfer. Simply running away from his guilt was the worst decision he could have possibly made. Guilt was going to still be there even if he changed bodies; it was a tumor on the soul.

He sat on a cliff, looking down at the kids running around below. A village in the mountains was a place he never saw himself going to, but here he was.

He could see a figure flying upward toward him.

"Azula!" the man's fist was covered in lighting while veins coursed through his face.

Kite sighed, everything paused, and the world transfer ended, taking him back to his body. The sun was still beaming down on him alone as his boat made its way forward.

'How many lives have I taken?' Kite had lived his life as a villain in this modern world.

He had killed many innocent people just to train this skill to level 10. Sitting up, Kite turned around to see a figure sitting on the boat with him.

A torn dress, a long agape mouth with water flowing from it, and wrinkled skin.

Kite blinked before she vanished.

'The hallucinations are getting worse.' His heart was beating rapidly despite seeing her so many different times. Even within the other world, it started with simple nightmares every night before turning into full-on seeing Ashia in clear daylight.

In the distance, a large mountain could be seen. The boat finally pushed up on shore, and Kite stepped down. A thick forest was laid out in front of him, waiting for his entrance.

The leaves were covered in water, hinting that it had been raining not too long ago. Kite watched as a pack of what appeared to be wolves crossed a river. The wolves had green fur, while patches of wood covered their bodies. The largest wolf tapped its paws against the ground.

Roots started to extend from under the ground and across the river allowing them to cross. kite smiled before a dark purple glow covered his hand. Everything within 10 meters of him felt gravity pull on them significantly harder. The 5 wolves fell to the ground before their bodies flattened as if they were crushed. The leaves around Kite were pulled from the trees and even some trees were slightly bent.

"Seems even stronger here than in the previous world." He smiled happily knowing gryokinesis wasn't a waste of a skill.

The further he walked into the forest, the fewer brown trees he started to see; instead, white leaves along with white bark were all he could see.

A large, translucent tree could be seen in the middle of an opening. Kite pressed his hand against the tree but almost sank into it.

It was made of some sort of clear liquid that stuck to his hand until he pulled away.

"I wouldn't get too close to that thing if I were you, especially since they are about to return..." A hooded figure stuck his head out from the ground covered in what Kite thought was snow before pulling his entire body up.

Kite quickly looked for where the voice came from.

"I almost killed you." Kite brought his hand to his chest before laughing.

The figure gave a hoarse laugh before suddenly stopping.

"I'm already dead, and I'm afraid, so are you." The figure stared toward Kite with an expression unknown to him due to the hood covering his face.

Kite's eyebrow raised, "What are you saying? Where are we?"

"Poor thing, you perished so fast you don't even remember it happening." The figure pulled back his hood revealing an old face within its 50s. He had long black sloppy hair.

"I'm Reficul, one of the oldest souls that traverse this afterlife." The man gave a smile, revealing his yellow, rotten teeth.

"Gosh, do they not have toothpaste in the afterlife? What happened to heaven and hell?" Kite cringed while looking at the man's mouth.

"Very funny." The man started to cough again. He patted his chest a few times before continuing, "Heaven has collapsed onto hell, creating this landscape you see now."

"Collapsed?"

"Have you heard of the term Outlander?" The man's voice suddenly got deep and his pupilless eyes turned black.

Kite shook his head no in confusion.

"Well, an Outlander is someone who comes from a different world." Reficul's hands started to bulge with veins as he spoke.

"They have been flocking the world recently, ruining this world through the use of their special powers gifted to them at birth!"

"That's cool and all, but how are we—I mean, they, ruining this world?" Kite gulped loudly.

"How do you think heaven collapsed in the first place? That dumbass goddess keeps bringing people from entirely different realities and bestowing them with unfair powers!" Reficul looked like a ticking time bomb that was about to explode any second now.

'If I use and overwrite now, he'll definitely know I'm not from here...' Kite thought.

"Wait, so where can these outlanders be found?" Kite responded with an excited expression on his face, knowing that he could maybe find someone else from Earth.

"Besides the so-called gods that everyone worships, the other outlanders blend in with everyone else!" Reficul started to break out into a chain of coughs again.

"How do you know all this, you must be pretty old then…"

"Age doesn't know me, I've been here before it all started." Reficul rubbed his mouth and stared at the blood on his hand.

"But I've fallen from grace long since. If I were alive, I would consider it lucky for me to even survive a bandit...pathetic." He gave a sour smile.

"Just look at how many souls are falling at once. The souls have started to pile onto the ground almost like snow. Most, if not all of these souls are either directly coming from Outlanders or the deaths that have happened far too early due to an Outlander's actions."

"If this continues, the afterlife will no longer be able to support the mass, and this afterlife will drop on the mortal realm below causing the end of not just this world but this universe."

'An entire universe gone from one planet's mistakes?' Kite frowned while scratching his head.

"And you want to know what the most infuriating part is, I'm 100% positive she knows all of this is taking place, but hasn't don't a single thing about it!"

"It's the gods of this world's job to manage the souls, however, ever since Outlanders have ascended and killed the original gods, no one is doing their job!" Reficul dug his hands into the souls below him.

Kite felt bad for the old fart but didn't have a clue what to do. If he didn't find out something, this universe would end, killing him without a doubt.

"Please...help me reach Nede."

"Nede?"

Reficul looked toward his left and pointed at the golden light shining through the darkened sky.

"It's what remains of a once unfathomable land, I know it must still be there." Reficul's eyes held a hint of sorrow.

"We can get there easily if we avoid the hollows..."
