I sat among the other soldiers, all of us quiet as the pressure of the upcoming battle getting to most of them. Everyone except S3bastian, who decided to do what he did best.
"Maybe after this war, we can put aside our differences and treat omnics as equals. Especially in London." He says as he knows what I've revealed to him, and that London is one of the main cities that dealt with omnic oppression.
The soldiers who hear him look at him as if he's crazy. One looks to me to confirm that my partner said something so ludicrous. Although we wanted to avoid the second omnic crisis, but I knew his reasoning were different from mine, I had already briefly tried to sway people's opinions on omnics, but it was too soon.
Seeing that no one commented, S3bastian just shrugged his shoulders and put on headphones. The headphones weren't on, so he instead was playing, Iron Man aloud for everyone to hear. The music helped shorten the ride there, as it gave us something else to focus on.
As London came into view, some areas were covered in smog, while some buildings were reduced to rubble. Clear signs, the omnics occupying the city thoroughly searched it for metal to produce more omnics. Some soldiers looking at the wreckage of a place that was once their home grow sad.
However, I show no indifference as I reflect on the debriefing before we left. The General was there personally to inform us of the game plan. Since there was an omnium dwelling in the city, a team was assembled that would attack and shut it down.
Meanwhile, the rest of us were to provide a distraction of sorts, exterminating as many omnics as possible within designated areas to establish footholds. It was decided that I was to be a part of this group, as they felt I would build more moral fighting alongside them.
Personally, I felt as though this was rushed and the better plan was to retake all the lost cities leading up to London. With their priorities split on either cleansing London or the omnium, any form of bad communication could spell bad news for us. Regardless, my input wasn't needed, just my skills, so I would perform the job. I was actually kind of excited, ready to try out my new fighting style.
Our cars stop just outside the city as we file out of them as the soldiers line up, ready for the siege. Scanning the outskirts of the city to find that our arrival was clearly noticed. Sure enough, ATW Huntsmen and Bastion units begin to head to our position, ready to defend.
A captain heads to the front of the army, looking over the soldiers, he raises his weapon in the air.
"For King and Country!" He shouts with pride. The soldiers raise their own weapons and echo his words.
"For King and Country!" Then they begin their advance, charging towards the city.
While the Huntsmen begin calculating the distance to us, ready to fire. Fortunately for us, the British army spared no expense on this siege. A harmonized boom echos behind us, as the lines of omnics in front of us erupt into flames. They proceed to advance once enough ground is covered between us.
Rushing into the city, the army splits into two, each heading into different sides, while the team secretly heads towards the omnium. Sounds of explosions and gunfire fill the air as we hear the other begin their battle. As soon as we turn down a street with a ruined skyscraper, two OR-14 units lead the way for a detachment of Bastions.
All the soldiers shift nervously next to me, even the leader of our group, at the threat of a new enemy to them. Seeing our leader's moment of hesitation, I open my mouth to bark out a command, but close it. It was highly suggested from my superiors to take a back seat on this mission from my superiors. I could read the room and tell that they were highly skeptical on the success of this mission and didn't want me to take any blame.
Therefore, I remained silent, trusting in our squad captain to take action against them. Thankfully, he remembered that he was on the battlefield in one of the most important missions in his life and came back to.
"Focus up! I need rockets on those bots now!" He orders. The soldiers snap out of their stupor and those with rockets rise to the front. Taking a second to aim, two rockets fly off into an OR bot. They explode, launching the OR-14 into its own omnics behind. Despite being so heavily damaged, it still struggles to stand before its lights blink, and it falls back down in a heap of flaming metal. Unfortunately, due to miscommunication, both rocket men took aim at the same target. The other OR-14 and Bastions begin opening fire on us.
As the men scramble for cover, I remain where I am, undaunted. Time seems to slow down as I focus on the bullets heading towards us. My visor assists by showing what bullets will miss and which would connect. My bioelectricity flows through my arm, making it capable of responding to my own signals faster.
With the katana, my arm moves as if by instinct, responding to what my brain as processed it needs to block. While the world moves in slow motion to me, the soldiers stare in shock and wonder as see me deflect the bullets at insane speeds towards the OR-14. They can hear the rhythmic pinging of metal hitting metal.
Slowly approaching it, my focus never shifts from the bullets, but I remain aware of the enemies behind them. Thankfully, the submachine fire from the Bastions isn't that overwhelming, even with have quite a number of them firing. As they continue firing at me, I find it hilarious as each bullet instead slams into the OR-14. They tear through the metal on the OR-14 as it drops to the ground.
Seeing the most difficult foe drop, after deflecting a couple more bullets, I safely roll to the side, dodging bullets heading my way. While standing, I draw my Desert Eagle. Firing three rounds one after the other, three Bastions head explode, making them drop to the ground. A bullet comes my way, which I easily deflect into the head of another Bastion. Six more shots are fired from me, each landing their target at the remaining Bastions heads.
With the enemy gone, the soldiers slowly come out of cover as I sheathe my blade and reload my pistol. Turning to them with a smile on my face, I tell them.
"London won't reclaim itself. Let's go."
