Retaking London Part 2

Our squad pushed deeper into London, making sure to avoid the paths to the omnium. Seeing my skills, and even impressed with S3bastian's who inherited my hand me down assault rifle, they were more confident in taking gunfights. Which works out for us, as omnic activity was reported to be increasing with each passing minute. At first, we would encounter detachments of obvious patrols, but now, we were met with heavier resistance.

We worked our way to the river Thames, with the intention of clearing the coastal areas of omnics to free them up for the British Navy to occupy it. We found ourselves fighting on a bridge, engaging with a massive number of omnic forces. While the soldiers fought more confidently, they were smart enough to only push when it was clear to.

Meanwhile, I seemed to be having the time of my life. Maneuvering through the wreckage of abandoned cars, I used the Bastions slow moving frames to my advantage, allowing me to close the distance to them. Nearing one, it strikes out with a metal fist towards me. I easily dodge its attack, using my katana to slice its arm off before slashing its head off. Using the Bastions body as a shield, I approach the next one.

Throwing the dead Bastions body on to the new one, I shoot the head off another Bastion, before slicing the fallen Bastion. Five Bastions approach my location, intending on overwhelming me with numbers. Smiling, I take on their challenge, and rush at them head on.

Closing the distance to them, I deflect incoming bullets before rolling to the first Bastion. Slicing through the middle of him, I continue past, weaving between the cars once again towards the others. Sliding across the hood of a car, I take two shots, and a Bastion falls. One of my shots misses its mark due to a misjudgment on my part.

Instead of its head blowing up, my shot hits its chest, the momentum making the Bastion step back stunning it, giving me the chance to get near him. Slashing off its head, I continue moving as bullets hit the ground where I was seconds prior.

Rolling sideways, I take two more shots and the bodies of the Bastions fall to the ground, headless. Standing, I take a look around while reloading and notice that the squad wrapped up their own gunfight. I wasn't even the least bit tired as I causally regrouped with the team.

It was something about my new fighting style that made me feel different. I wouldn't call myself a battle maniac, or at least, I didn't think myself to be one. But there was a satisfying feeling of being so active, getting up close and fighting. That tingling in the back of my mind was there once again, like I was on the verge of realizing something, but unlike before, I was far from understanding it.

Our team continued deeper into the ports, to find the omnics were just reduced to detachments. Easily handling the Bastion units with the occasional OR-14, we soon deemed the area secure, and a flare goes off into the sky. Of course, I couldn't get this bad feeling that loomed over me. I felt like this was all too easy.

I was getting antsy, staying on guard as I surveyed the area for any movement, in case of an ambush. S3bastian notices and approaches me.

"Good to see that you've learned from our prior experiences, I was beginning to think you were numb in the brain and incapable of learning."

Turning to him, I ask, "What do you think is happening?"

He contemplates for a moment before answering. "I lack too much information to be accurate, but if I were to guess, I'd say their focus is to protect the omnium. The only other omniums near would be Germany or France, which would be too far to be effective. Therefore, I would say it's good that we're not the team attacking the omnium, as I would go as far to say that there is something nasty about to come out of that place."

His prediction sounds spot on, as I look towards the center of London where the omnium is, ready to see an omnic Titan rise. However, a distance booming brings my attention to the sea. Five British navy ships come into view, through the smog at the sea, and the squad begins cheering.

However, one of the ships suddenly bursts into flames, sinking to the trenches below, and they quiet down immediately. The remaining ships open fire on whatever is in the smog, resounding booms echo through the air. We can see them make contact as explosions go off, but whatever the target is, merely shrugs off the hits as another ship explodes.

As we watch ship after ship mercilessly destroyed, I don't bother putting on my visor to see what the cause is. I already knew what it was, as dread started to creep in. Why did it have to be me to deal with this?

The final ship nears the port, and we can see the crew scrambling around the deck of the ship as they continue firing on the figure in the smog. A giant two clawed foot emerges and comes down on the ship. Some men jump into the water seconds before the foot comes down, crushing the ship into the sea. An underwater explosion goes off, causing an air bubble to send water and black smoke up as the entire figure comes into view.

The soldiers stare in horror at a giant bipedal omnic with gun turrets on each hand, and turrets on both its waist and shoulders. Two red lights, resembling eyes scan the shore, until, eerily, they land on us. With a creak, the Titan begins to make its way to us.
