10 Chapter 8

Londes di Clap was a proud Warrior of the Slane Theocracy, he believed in the teachings of the Six Great Gods and as a believer he always thought that his duty was to cement the supremacy of the mankind over the filthy demi humans.

So this mission left him a bit... conflicted.

Sure putting Re-Estize kingdom and Baharuth empire against each other in a real war, not one of those little yearly skirmishes they had, was understandable. They were heretic kingdoms that did not believe in the true gods after all.

But why did it had to be through murdering innocent villagers? These people weren't like the heretic nobles of their kingdom who rejected the Six Great Gods but poor souls who did not know better. They should be helped and taught the right ways so that they too could help the world by exterminating the filthy demi humans or at the very least help those who did the exterminating.

In the end there was nothing he could no as trying to reject orders from a superior, that wasn't the shitty coward Belius, would have been heretical so he simply asked for forgiveness from the gods and did as he was ordered.

Now, he was feeling like the gods didn't accept his apology.

After all, what else could he see the giant monstrosity before him as anything other than a punishment from the gods?

It had appeared right as one of the knights had declared his... less than holy intention towards one of the women of the village, then the giant white monster had appeared before them with its jaw already closed on the idiot knight's head. Then it was a massacre.

The gallant warriors of Theocracy he had spent years training with had all fallen to the best. Lucky ones fell to its claws or its tail that moved like a whip. The ones who weren't lucky enough found themselves in the beast's jaw. If any of them managed to get out of the village, then the screams of those who found themselves between the monster's teeth would haunt their dreams for the rest of their lives.

Honestly… that didn't feel like a long time before the monster.

"You guys, take down that monster!" The one who was screaming was Belius, a man who had been made the captain of their unit due to his connection and his family, an unrepentant coward that Londes had wished to decapitate more than once.

"I-I, I am not a person who should die in a place like this!" The man who had been enjoying himself the most when they were killing the villagers was trembling to the point most people were surprised he could actually stand and not fall down.

He seemed like he was going to try to give more orders that was nothing more than thinly concealed begging for his life but before he could do so, he found himself within the jaw of the giant canine like many others before him.

After months of badmouthing the man behind his back, no matter how true his words had been, seeing him die like this... Londes felt as pathetic as he had always claimed Belius to be.

Before the knight could think anything else, the monster turned it's head to him and the rest of the knights behind him, it's eyes glowing an eerie blue as it slowly walked towards them. Londes could swear that the beast had something similar to a smile on it's snout, like it was taunting them and those he had killed.

Londes and then the rest of the knights fell to their knees, the knights weren't even trying to run anymore. They also knew that they couldn't use the villagers as shields since one of them had tried and then the beast appeared behind the foolish knight with his head inside the monster's jaw.

"That's enough." A voice was heard throughout the village and to the amazement and horror of the knights, the monster that had devoured their brethren sat down like an obedient pup.

The one who spoke the command, Utgard, was standing above them, literally above them as he was flying along with his two companions.

"Hello, gentlemen. I am Utgard Wotan, who might you be?" The giant of a man asked after landing to the ground and slightly bend over until Londes could properly look into his eyes.

Londes wanted to give an answer, say something along the lines of being soldiers of Baharuth Empire in order to at least protect his country and succeed in the intentions of his superiors.

But he couldn't.

All he could do in front of the giant of a man who could order around a monster that had massacred his comrades, was to stay silent in fright and pray that this day was just a very bad nightmare.

"No answers, huh." Utgard muttered as he gazed upon the soldiers. If they weren't gonna answer freely, then he could just have them answer in more... forceful methods.

He put his hand in his inventory and pulled a small staff with a skull on top of it along with a bell under it.

"Whelp, guess I'll just have you answer in a different way." Utgard said and shook the staff, causing the bell to chime and then the knights disappeared.

To the villagers they were just gone, but Utgard knew exactly where. The item he used was called 'Prisoner Location Bell' a relic class item that had the ability to transport up to two dozen enemies to a location that was saved in the item's data. Even though it had a rather impressive ability, it was considered to be a joke among players since it had a requirement of being at least fifty levels above the target to use the item.

It was useful in the new world though so he never sold it, sending them to Neuronist's tender mercies would have been troublesome without it after all.

{Demiurge.}

{Yes, my lord?}

{I just send some prisoners to the Frozen Prison in the fifth floor, tell Neuronist that I want all the knowledge they possess and that she is free to go as wild as she wants to.} Utgard sent his message, feeling absolutely no pity for the fools who he had unleashed the torture specialist brain eater upon.

{Understood my lord. I am sure Neuronist will be very happy to take orders from you.} Demiurge replied and went to do as his master ordered him to.

"E-Excuse me..." One of the villagers, an elder who looked extremely uneasy, raised his voice. "...who exactly are you, sir?" the man asked and the villagers on the ground behind him looked relieved, likely due to the fact they wouldn't be the ones to ask now.

"As I've already said, I am Utgard Wotan. I was passing through and saw your village get attacked so I sent my friend here to help you." Utgard said as he raised his hand and scratched Amarok's chin, much to the giant wolf's joy.

"Though, this wasn't for free. There are few things I would like to ask in exchange of saving your lives." Utgard said and the villagers looked less on guard. Someone helping them out of the goodness of their heart was suspicious to them, but a man who wanted something in exchange of it felt more... real to them.

"I am ready to answer any questions you have to the best of my abilities, sir Utgard. But... can we have a moment to gather our dead." The elder man said and even though they didn't say anything, Utgard could feel the displeasure of Albedo and Gudrun. Neither of the ladies were happy with their lord's request being delayed, even if it was for a reasonable request.

"I'll allow it." Utgard nodded his head and watched the villagers gather their dead in haste.

As he watched he started to think on what to do. The best choice would be to simply wait for Gazef to come and make a friendly contact with the warrior without doing anything to raise suspicions further.

But that wasn't what he wanted.

Sure he'd be waiting for Gazef but he didn't want to simply be Momonga's replacement in this world. He wanted to go further than the Overlord did in his adventure. He wanted to excel, he wanted to collect, he wanted to spread his name and most importantly...

He wanted to be a god.

So as he watched the villagers mourn over the bodies of the dead, he looked at Enri and her sister who had returned from the forest and were now crying over the bodies of their parents, he knew exactly what he would do.

He pulled out another item, one that both Albedo and Gudrun looked upon with wide eyes. It was a wand with several angel figurines surrounding it with a white crystal standing on the top of it.

Holy Wand of Renewal, a super rare item that held the ability to use Super Tier magic: Renewal Grounds once in a two months. A spell that was considered to be one of the greatest resurrection spells ever recorded, instead of select targets this spell revived anyone in an area as long as those within the are hadn't been dead for more than an hour.

"Activate." Utgard used the wand before either Albedo or Gudrun could object and several giant magic circles appeared around him, much to the shock of the villagers.

Before they could question what was happening, the spell that was fastened through the item completed its function and the circles disappeared in a flash of light.

When the light cleared out, the villagers fell to the ground in shock as their fallen brethren no longer had any wounds on their bodies and had already started to rise up from their position. It took a second before children embraced their parents, brothers embraced sister and lovers embraced each other in tears.

As those who managed to emotionally collect themselves and those who hadn't lost any of their families looked back at Utgard, he was no longer a unnaturally strong individual in their eyes.

No.

The smiling giant redhead before them was a god to them.
