Overlord : Trinidad chapter: 4

Overlord : Trinidad chapter: 4

Calm, tranquility, peace… these were emotions that would never touch Satoru Suzuki's mind in a situation like this, but it was different for Momonga.

The new nature of his undead body had given him the composure necessary to devise a plan that could conclude this situation without any bloodshed.

This could very well be a trap, one in which Satoru Suzuki would have easily fallen. For that, Momonga was thankful for this new body, which allowed him to better understand the situation.

"If I were still human, I would've scolded Albedo, who only wanted to protect me, and run with open arms toward TouchMe and Ulbert… In the worst case, they would've been enemies, and I would've looked like a fool. Even if I survived, the very guardians would have lost respect for me, and I'd run the risk of dying at their hands," thought Momonga.

And so, he gazed gently at the woman in black armor standing there, ready to give her life for him. If it hadn't been for Albedo, Momonga would have lost a lot, and even if they were truly his old companions, the actions of the succubus guardian had been correct.

"Albedo... thank you," were the kind words that came from Momonga's mouth, and upon hearing them, Albedo trembled and made an adorable sound from inside her armor.

"And now, I have to deal with those two," Momonga said to himself.

Sebas and Demiurge were tense, their eyes filled with a desire to jump into battle. They had once looked at Momonga with respect and admiration, but now, all that remained in those gazes was fear—like cornered animals trying to protect their offspring.

Were the bonds between creations and their creators really that deep? If so, Momonga thought he could trust not only Albedo but also Pandora's Actor, the NPC he had personally created.

"Sebas, Demiurge, do you think I'm capable of killing a friend?" were the words that came from Momonga after much thought.

Sebas paled, unable to grasp the meaning behind the words, while Demiurge answered.

"We do not believe that, Momonga-sama! There's no doubt you are a benevolent being to those of us who inhabit the glorious Nazarick," Demiurge said sincerely, recalling the only Supreme Being who had never abandoned them. "But that doesn't change the fact that this woman seeks to poison your mind into killing the Supreme Beings who have returned to us," Demiurge added with resentment as he pointed at Albedo.

"Hm… I understand why you think that. You too, Sebas—I understand. But Albedo did the right thing."

TouchMe and Ulbert breathed heavily as they heard Momonga approve of Albedo's actions.

Momonga gripped the guild's scepter tightly and, with what he believed was the voice of a king, declared:

"We have arrived in a new world!" As he spoke, a black aura erupted from him like a storm. "A world unknown, with unfathomable dangers! We are blind within this cloud of ignorance! And for that reason, we cannot afford to act recklessly!"

Momonga pointed the scepter at TouchMe and Ulbert, who tensed defensively.

"If we act like fools, we will all end up dead."

His words struck his friends, reminding them why it had been Momonga, not TouchMe, who had led the guild.

"You two attacked Sebas—I can see that clearly. That's why I can't blindly trust your word." Sebas hung his head as if the fault was his. "There's no doubt—you look like my companions, but there are many magics that could achieve that effect."

TouchMe and Ulbert accepted this; Momonga was right. Given what had happened, they appeared to be the enemy, having entered the tomb unannounced and attacked Sebas in a panic.

"Alright, we made a mistake, I accept that, Momonga. But if the situation is as you say, how do you intend to resolve this?" Ulbert asked.

"Simple," Momonga said, almost laughing. "You will answer some questions that only a member of Ainz Ooal Gown could answer."

For TouchMe and Ulbert, there was no longer any doubt. This was indeed Momonga—the PVP-loving madman who had memorized every spell and detail of Yggdrasil. This was their friend, the one who had kept Nazarick alive for so long.

"I accept," said TouchMe.

"So do I," replied Ulbert.

After calming everyone down, Momonga ordered the guardians to protect him, as well as Ulbert and TouchMe, since there was a chance that one of them was real and the other an impostor. He positioned the guardians and himself in such a way as to ensure the survival of all three.

"You haven't lost your touch, Momonga," TouchMe remarked, recalling the massive guild battles where Momonga and Bukubukuchagama had directed everyone when the battlefield turned to chaos.

"Eh… thanks," Momonga replied awkwardly.

"I hope you're really them," he thought.

"Alright, the first question is for you, TouchMe. Tell me, which of the nine founding members of the guild joined because of your strength?"

"What? Ah… yes, it was Takemikazuchi-san."

Momonga nodded. "Correct. Then, Ulbert, why did Takemikazuchi leave the guild?"

Ulbert held his breath and looked at TouchMe with… regret. "He left because of TouchMe... Takemikazuchi wanted to defeat you, TouchMe. And Peroroncino told me that after you left, he lost interest. He left because he would never have the chance to beat you in a duel, and he became demotivated."

Momonga once again approved the answer, but before he could ask the next question, Cocytus cried out, "What?!" He didn't seem angry, just shocked. Now they remembered Cocytus had been created by Takemikazuchi-san.

Before things could get complicated, all the guardians reprimanded Cocytus for disrespecting the Supreme Beings. They would have killed him for such an insult, but they were lenient, understanding it was difficult for him to learn why his creator had disappeared.

"Once more, TouchMe: 'I forgot the opponent's information, so let's just hit them...'"

TouchMe felt bad knowing that a friend had quit the game because of him, and surely that's why Momonga had asked a question that helped him relax and forget about it.

"And run away if they're too strong," answered TouchMe with what seemed like a smile. "Yamaiko always got us into trouble with things like that."

"HAHA, yeah. Do you remember when she forgot the plan and attacked without waiting for Ulbert to start?" Momonga said happily before his emotions were suppressed once again.

"Yes! Poor Ulbert was left in the middle of the enemy team, shouting while he fought them off."

The memory they shared of that day was how Ulbert, surrounded by enemies, faced them all alone while the rest of the guild shouted, "We'll never forget your sacrifice!" And when Yamaiko (who was in charge of the mission) saw that Ulbert had killed eight of the enemies, she ordered a retreat while shouting, "I'll never abandon a friend!" to which Ulbert retorted, "WHAT WAS THAT A FEW SECONDS AGO?!" Yamaiko had simply replied, "A strategic move you wouldn't understand."

In retrospect, it seemed like a bad memory, but since they had won that battle, Momonga recalled it fondly.

And while they remembered that tragic day when Ulbert earned his name as "The Demon of the Great Catastrophe" after killing eight players solo, the goat demon shouted, "I remember, and it wasn't fun! I lost several levels that day!"

An awkward silence formed—a brief one—before the three burst into laughter.

Momonga stopped laughing a few seconds later due to the suppression of emotions, but TouchMe and Ulbert continued to laugh heartily. A feeling of sadness formed in Momonga's heart as he couldn't keep sharing in their joy, but he felt happy nonetheless because he was now sure they were his friends… there was just one more thing he needed to confirm.

"Alright, one last thing to be completely sure it's you… it's important you tell me: What are your weaknesses and those of your armor?"

Everyone fell silent. TouchMe and Ulbert looked at each other before giving their answer. At the same time, they told their friend Momonga:

"As if we'd tell you that," said TouchMe.

"As if we'd tell you that," said Ulbert.

There was no longer any doubt for Momonga. These were his companions, the ones with whom he shared so many memories. They were his friends.
