Ch11. Testing 3

Rei quickly adjusted his mentality. It made sense that since this was not a game, the damage of the crowd control skills is no longer nerfed to balance the game. What really surprised Rei was that even the flames on the Hellchains actually acted their part. In the game, they were just a useless graphic effect that made the spell look cool but otherwise didn't provide anything. Now though? It seemed these flames were exactly what the description of the spell said they were since the spell summoned 'Hellchains covered in the flames of hell'. Rei wasn't entirely sure if he should still count the Crushing Hellchains as a seventh-tier spell or raise its rank in his mind considering all the facts.

Deciding to just roll with it, Rei moved onto the next part of his testing and opened his character interface. It no longer worked as in the game. He didn't actually open a translucent window telling him his status. Instead, the second he wished for his status to appear, the information flooded his mind, giving him a perfect picture of his being.

'Quite a nice little spell, this one.' Rei inwardly hummed, recognizing that viewing of his status was in reality done through a spell he subconsciously cast rather than a system function of the game. 'I wonder what the limitations of this appraisal-type spell are.'

Momentarily giving up on pondering about this idle curiosity of his, Rei checked the most important part of the last test. His EXP bar.

A smile instantly bloomed on his face, 'The summoned mob gave me EXP!' He excitedly realized when he found out he had one new unused job level. Rei had full EXP bar of level 100 and that meant, no matter what he did in the game, he would not level up but now, after killing the Wraith Lord, he leveled up. Sure, a level fifty-five Wraith Lord didn't provide Rei even 0,001% of his EXP bar but he did get some and that meant summoned mobs could be used to 'grind' levels in some capacity. Plus, as Rei expected, the level cap was removed too.

Glancing at Solution, Rei suddenly regretted not making her specialize in Summoning type of magic as if he did, he could raise his level even more. Level 100 might have been the limit in the game and even in this new world, there might not be many people who could stand against level 100 players but that didn't mean this was Rei's 'endgame'. Rei didn't intend to spend his entire life in this world and just a thought about the strength of some people in the cultivation worlds gave Rei shivers.

Nope, level 100 was just his foundation. There was much, much more power-leveling he was required to do if he wanted to feel safe. That's why realizing he could grind levels again was god-sent for Rei... but he also realized a major flaw with it.

'There is a limit. As far as I know, the highest level summonable mob is level 100 and Solution can't do that with her unboosted Necromancy. Maybe if she used Enchanted Scrolls that boost summoning magic. Ugh... if I want to use Solution for this, I will have to kill angels for power-leveling won't I?' Rei cringed, remembering Solution's job classes. He also realized that even if he spent the immediate future power-leveling through summoning magic, he would hit a wall soon. He doubted he could go beyond level 120 with this method and even then it would take a massive amount of time and resources. That decided it for him. 'No... I have to stop thinking of this as a game. There must be a more natural way of getting more powerful than leveling up. Maybe it's time to start thinking why the spells work, rather than just taking it for granted.'

Well, that didn't mean Rei would not attempt to grind levels. He simply won't put all of his time into it. As such, he decided to make some more tests with summoning magic.

"Create High-Tier Treant." Rei cast a spell and tried to feel everything about the spell as the ground split and a massive tree sprouted upwards, reaching the upper floors of the Amphitheater with its height. This was level seventy Treant Elder.

'Huh, so it... instantly grows the mob in the ground? Interesting. I wonder if this makes it a permanent summon. In fact...', "Create High-Tier Treant." Rei again intoned the spell, this time aiming it near the wall of the arena and deciding to just leave the tree there. 'I will come and see if it disappears or stays in a few days.'

Rei had a nature magic spell tree and he learned all of its spells simply because he could. After all, why not learn all the available spells when he spent so much real-life money on items that could increase his spell cap.

It actually surprised Rei a bit when he was able to summon the second high-tier treant. Especially since in the game, he could do that spell only once a day. Not unlike Solution and her Necromancy, Rei didn't focus on boosting Summoning spells in his build.

This was yet another limitation that didn't apply in real life AND made Summoning magic incredibly overpowered in Rei's opinion. He felt that as long as he had enough mana, he could 'create' these treants indefinitely. For a second, Rei felt a bit jealous of Momonga...

The treant woke up with an audible creak, uprooting itself from the ground and standing up before kneeling in front of Rei. Well, more like above Rei because of its height. Rei could immediately tell that this mob was loyal to him and while the mental connection between them was peculiar, it also made him feel weird, never experiencing it before.

Rei just wryly smiled. The subservience he felt through the mental connection almost made him stop his test but... "Tripple-Maximize Magic: Vacuum Bomb." Rei said and with an audible ear-shattering 'pop' followed by an instantaneous orange heated flash of an explosion the upper part of the treant disappeared, leaving only its two legs rooted in the ground like two crown-less tree trunks while some branches that were not in the spell's area of effect started falling down onto the ground.

Rei slowly blinked, expecting a shockwave or something but... 'I guess creating a vacuum in a certain limited space and then making it go kaboom in a controlled explosion just erased everything in the area of effect but didn't affect anything beyond it. Huh... neat. At least with this spell, I don't have to worry about destroying more than I intend.'

Checking his status, Rei frowned.

'As expected... I got no EXP from killing my own summoned mob. Damn, that's depressing.'
